4.6 million doesn't seem like enough money to me. They want to put in a new scoreboard like the amway center, new ribbon displays around the arena, new video board above section 213, new marquee board on 10th & capital, and new marquee boards near the entrances of each parking lot. Plus, are the flat screens in the stadium right now HD? If they are not, they will have to upgrade those as well. The amway center scoreboard had to cost 5 million dollars alone.

I would guess there is a fair amount saved over a brand new instalation by having cableing, support structers, etc already in place.

I would agree. It still needs to fit in the hole in the ceiling so I am guessing the lifting accessories and power supplies can be re-used. I would guess the scoreboard will be one of easiest things to change. Lower it on to the ground, move it out of the way, move the new one in to place, hook it up, and lift it back up to the ceiling. All the electrical conduit runs along a catwalk so it won't be hard to pull a few extra networks cables back to the control room.

The Amway Center Video Board is considered the King of Center Hung Video Boards in an Arena and is quite a bit larger than the new one coming to Clink, although the same style- 8 upper boards, 4 lower boards and two video rings. The 8 upper boards at Amway are 12' high by 15' wide while the Clink's new 8 upper boards are supposed to 5' 7" high by 10' wide. And the 4 lower boards at Amway are 17' high by 22' wide while the Clink's new 4 lower boards are supposed to be 10' 4" high by 17 ' 7". And the upper and larger video ring at Amway is 120' circumference compared to Clink's 76' 11" circumference. Its still a state of the video board like Amway Center, just more medium sized- so less expensive. I believe the current 8 sided video panels at Clink are 9' by 12', but obviously not high def. So the new lower boards will be larger and hi def, so a very nice upgrade!

I noticed the other day that they have already replaced the carpet in the grand hallway along the front of the convention center, it looks really nice. Its great to see them keeping this place current.

It was in before the car show.

I agree. It won't end up like Rosenblatt or the Civic where they needed huge money from the city to remodel it.

Then he clarified that:
It's the first in a non-professional sports venue. 2nd screen like it in the country.

There is a video on Omaha.com that says the Main Video Boards are the first 4mm? I am assuming that's Pixel Size?

Looks like it will be larger than first posted...

http://www.4-traders.com/DAKTRONICS-INC ... -16905701/
www.4-traders.com wrote:BROOKINGS, S.D. - May 23, 2013 - Daktronics (Nasdaq - DAKT) of Brookings, S.D., announced today that CenturyLink Center Omaha in Omaha, Neb., has asked the company to design, manufacture and install a venue-wide integrated display system, including the first centerhung to use displays with 4 millimeter pixel layouts not including professional sports venues. It will also be the first centerhung configuration in the country to integrate displays with 4 millimeter and 6 millimeter line spacing.

The installation of numerous LED displays will include a centerhung video display system, fascia ribbon displays, an endwall video display, court-side scorer's table displays, an outdoor marquee display and parking lot displays. The area of all the displays to be installed equals a total of 3,467 square feet.

"We strive to provide an incredible fan experience at CenturyLink Center Omaha and Daktronics once again delivered with technology that will set us apart from our competition," said Roger Dixon, President and CEO of the Metropolitan Entertainment & Convention Authority which operates CenturyLink Center Omaha. "We're excited to reveal this new state-of-the-art scoreboard and system to our guests."

The centerhung configuration will contain four main LED video displays that each measure approximately 11.5 feet high by 20 feet wide. The displays will provide excellent image clarity and contrast while being capable of showing one large image to highlight live video and instant replays, or a variety of graphics, animations, up-to-the-minute statistics, scoring information and sponsor advertisements.

The centerhung includes four wedge-shaped displays that will match the height of the main video displays and face outward from the four corners of the main video display. There will be two ring displays - one above and one below the main video displays - both featuring the aforementioned 6 millimeter line spacing. Each ring display will measure 2 feet high with the top ring measuring more than 95 feet wide and the bottom ring measuring 79 feet wide.

Above the top ring display, eight video displays will face outward, forming an octagon. Each display will feature 6 millimeter line spacing and measure approximately 6 feet high by 11.5 feet wide. All of these displays will be used to compliment the content on the main video displays, showcase sponsor throughout events, and provide up-to-the-minute statistics and other game information.

"This centerhung will be the first of its kind utilizing 4 millimeter technology on the main video displays with over 720 lines of resolution and 6 millimeter technology on the rings and upper displays," said Matt Warnke, Daktronics Sales Representative. "The combination of these two technologies will provide fans and patrons of CentryLink Center Omaha with unparalleled display quality."

At the south end of the arena, an endwall display will be installed to supplement the centerhung display system. It will feature 15 millimeter line spacing and measure approximately 13 feet tall by 36 feet wide. It will have all of the same capabilities as the main center hung video displays such as providing live video and instant replays or being divided into separate windows to show a multitude of other content.

Around the seating area of the arena will be four LED ribbon displays measuring roughly 2.5 feet high, to provide additional graphics, animations, statistics and other information. The ribbon displays at the north end will measure 177 feet long and the south end will measure 164 feet long, and the ribbon displays on the east and west sides of the arena will measure 263 feet long.

At court-level, 16 total scorer's tables will be attached together in groups of 11 on the east side and five on the west side. These displays will provide additional space for sponsor messages, player headshots, statistics and other game information.

So you are judging one rendering against another with seeing either ? Wow.

Never seases to amaze me how the Omaha / Lincoln envy can filter into everything. I guess since I live basicly between the two I am OK with BOTH metro's thriving.

Wow! I'll try not to post anything about my opinion on this website anymore. It seems like if you say anything about your opinion people start "jumping on you" and criticizing your opinion. I have nothing against Lincoln or Pinnacle Bank Arena as you seem to think I do. It's going to be an extremly nice arena...it's the only arena near us that is actually comparable to the CLCO. So naturally, that's what people compare things with. I was simply stating that I like one better than the other. Whether I do that with renderings or whatever...why does that matter to you? In your words, it never seizes to amaze me how people can dissect every little word I say. I'll stick to just reading the forum now cause I prefer not to have every word I say critiqued. Again, sorry for voicing my opinion. I though that's what forums are for. My bad!

The video capabilities of this board will blow Lincoln out of the water.

So he was right, this board will be a lot better than the one in Lincoln.

I seem to want to say that the boards are the reason people attend events? Naaah.

This has nothing to do with Omaha vs. Lincoln. The CLink has shown a remarkable ability to perform well in the face of new competition (KC, DSM). While other arenas choose to hire management companies Omaha took the prudent step of self management and Roger Dixon should get a medal for his performance. Did any other regional arenas bid on the swimming trials? I would bet it never occurred to them. Time and again MECA has shown out of the box thinking. KC was promised and bet the ranch on NBA or NHL teams...so far, crickets are chirping in the dressing rooms.

As far as Lincoln goes, even Roger Dixon said bring it on. He said he can't do anything about other cities new arenas so he concentrates on making the Omaha facilities the best they can be. A couple of miles from Eppley, plentiful hotels nearby. The old market. Interstate access. DSM's arena isn't really close to much and not many close hotel rooms, KC has parking issues and isn't connected to the convention center. As for Lincoln's arena, I think they have done everything right. Sure they can use more hotel rooms but the Haymarket district is transforming into a great area. This won't be an Omaha/Lincoln thing. UNLESS they combine on an even larger event.

Here's who got hurt by the arena boom. Council Bluffs. Is there much of anything going on there? Are there any stores or restaurants in the plaza area next to it? And with the dozen or so arenas either built or planned for the Nebraska side of the river they will be in an even worse position.

I say well done Lincoln. It will be a fun area to visit. I also say very well done Roger Dixon and the MECA boards over the years. Keep it up.

A agree about Council Bluffs. After the management was taken over by Caesars Entertainment, it still appears theres is nothing going on there. The lack of events and conventions will not attract any more business to the area. I am not sure what else can be done for the Arena.

And I wonder, will the new Lincoln billboard...I mean videoboard... have the risk of burn in to it? I mean the only thing that will ever be in there will have a red "N" on it.
