It was reported here first as usual. I have an RSS feed on my homepage at work and this article just showed up in there after I got back from lunch.Bob from Omaha wrote:I'm not going to share the link but which came first, the posting here or in the OWH? I was always amazed that the OWH never picked up on the European style development with the canals & Nordstroms....

Fans got a 5/5 stars? I stopped reading right there, 5/5 fan scores should be reserved for atmospheres like Cameron indoor or Phog Fieldhouse.Omaha_Gabe wrote:Stadium Journey's Top 100 Stadium Experiences of 2013

Re: Century Link Center Omaha Remodel
I kind of agree, however, I don't think some people realize how nice of a facility the CenturyLink Center is. Sure the gameday atmosphere could always be improved with some chants, livelier and varied promotions during timeouts, better use of the video boards to show more stats (although they have improved in the past few games), and definitely some better halftime entertainment than the Jays dancers, but overall the arena with the recent renovations looks sparkling new and has an NBA feel to it. Currently there are only 3 other programs in the country that average more fans per game. I have been to games at UNI and Iowa and their arenas definitely weren't full and they are smaller capacities (15,400 for Iowa and around 7,000 for UNI)Linkin5 wrote:Fans got a 5/5 stars? I don't think anyone is questioning how nice the facilities are, or how how many seats are sold.skinzfan23 wrote:I kind of agree, however, I don't think some people realize how nice of a facility the CenturyLink Center is. I am simply stating that if you think fans at Creighton games are the pinnacle for NCAA basketball games, you are crazy. The student section is pathetic and games only get crazy if their is a either a big name opponent or a rival.

The Metropolitan Entertainment & Convention Authority, which runs the CenturyLink Center, commissioned Creighton economics professor Ernie Goss to study the economic impact of the arena and convention center.
The study found the downtown building has pumped $4.8 billion into the city. Goss said it's more than just money.

State wrestling staying at the Clink. This is a pretty big score for the arena and downtown hotels. I thought for sure they'd go back to Lincoln and PBA. Much needed good news for the Clink with UNO abandoning them in the next year.

My only feedback is that I wish it were in a more prominent spot, although once the baby Bob is built it will go right by there.

Re: CHI Health Center (Century Link Center) Omaha Remodel
That looks amazing! And, as an added bonus, Unlike the sponsorship on the building itself, Creighton will NEVER change their name
I mean we've had Qwest Center, Century Link and now CHI... the place hasn't even been here 25 years. Granted they technically didn't change sponsors the first couple of times; it was the company that sponsored it who changed their name.
I think the city got fed up with it at one point and stopped putting the name on the interstate signage, simply changing it to "Event Center".

Creighton men's basketball to continue playing at CHI Health Center for at least another decade
Jake Anderson
The Creighton men's basketball team will play at the CHI Health Center for at least another decade.
Creighton University announced Wednesday that they reached an agreement with the Metropolitan Entertainment and Convention Authority on a 10-year extension through the 2032-33 season.
In a statement, Creighton athletic director Marcus Blossom said the university is “thrilled to continue our partnership with MECA” for the arena.
“It’s proven to be one of the best venues in all of college basketball, and MECA has continued to make investments that appeal to our student-athletes and fans. We are looking forward to another great year where we attract over 17,000 loyal Bluejays fans a game cheering loudly in support of our student-athletes,” Blossom said.

I love the new sign.
14 years, 4 month, 6 days until the other sign comes down. The non-profit Catholic hospital system that paid 23-million to have naming rights is still stunningly insulting and inappropriate.
I call it Qwest Center still and pretend I don’t hear people when they correct me.

The lighting upgrade was long overdue. The lights were fine when the place opened, but were really falling behind. The Baxter has had LED since it opened 8 years ago. The color of modern lights are so much better, makes for way better photography.
I do worry a little bit about shooting pano's since the court will be even brighter now. Might be harder to get all the fans in my pano.

They need to play up the “bird cage” aspect with this. Turn out the lights, have “welcome to the bird cage” on the screens, start having the blue and white LED lights slowly circling in the arena, start increasing the speed until it’s a blue and white blur and play audio of birds shrieking/loud wing flapping during that color blur. Get a little bit of a unique atmosphere to tie into the theme.
