Agave Azteca Mexican Cuisine

Post by Coyote »

As I mentioned in the Linden Market thread, Agave Azteca Mexican Cuisine is ready to open soon, in the Bay of Doom. Let's see how long this place lasts...

We tried A.A. A few weeks back. The atmosphere is top notch. It is clear that the investors sunk some $$$ into this restaurant. The menu is extensive. The drinks are expensive. The food was a bit uneven. My friend raved about her shrimp dish. My enchiladas were bland.

We were there last week. Agree about the interior. Fantastic decor. We had good food. My wife had salmon that she described as the best she has had in the past few months. My carnitas were good but not great. The salsa it came with was tasty. One of our fellow diners got chicken fajitas that looked great.

Margueritas were expensive over iced and watery. I changed to beer and those prices are comparable.

We plan to return. Its easily the prettiest Mexican restaurant in Omaha. Lots of original art. The senorita with the ribbons in her hair was particularly well done. The Day of the Dead painting at the entrance was really nice as well.

The menu has a lot of things you don't see in many Mexican joints: a lot of seafood dishes, tableside guac too I believe. The initial yelp reviews are pretty solid too. And the decor is great. I need to try the food...these guys have been really good to work with and I'm rooting for them.

Tried it Saturday night and left pretty impressed. My wife had a chipotle burrito that she really liked, and the beef chimichangas were great. I guess I got too attached to the Julio/Carlos O'Kelly's style of chimichanga, which is more like a burrito. Agave's is more like an enchilada, but you get two of them.

The World-Herald reviewer hated the nacho cheese sauce last week, but I really liked it. We used some of our chips to clean my plate up. The food is artistically presented, and fairly reasonable. Best Mexican food I've found in west Omaha yet...though the competition isn't exactly all that strong.

Signs had been removed from the old Agave Azteca at 132nd & Dodge on Saturday night. Glad to see something else moving in, but I'm sad to see Agave leave again.

Weren't they supposed to be opening a Pancake Cafe at this same location (presumable sharing the space with their Mexican restaurant)? I feel like the "Pancake Cafe Coming Soon" signage has been up for like a year. So, I was googling around and found this on Facebook:
