I do not know how extensive their presence is here in Omaha, but they are going to put together a $1.25M renovation at 90th & Western.

They've always had kind of an under the radar presence in Omaha.

Yeah, as far as I know, they've always been in that office building just north of the New Cassel Retirement Center (I guess that's where 70th and Western is, huh).

Founded in 2002, the Omaha LinkedIn office is an eclectic mix of corporate consistency and quirky colloquialism. After years of steady success at their 90th and Western location, LinkedIn expanded last November into an almost-identical building across the parking lot in order to house its 170-plus employees.

Walking into the brand new facility, one thing is instantly obvious: the abundance of natural light. “It’s one of those things you take for granted and don’t really realize how meaningful it is,” Kelli Pilgrim, Director of Global Operations, says about the new space.

The Omaha LinkedIn office opened in 2007 in the plaza on the Northeast corner of 120th and Blondo. They were planning at one time on having a 300+ person office in Aksarben Village they were actually part of the ground breaking for Aksarben Village. Omaha was LinkedIn's first office outside of their Silicon Valley Headquarters and for a long time was their largest office outside of their headquarters.

I have read the posts and the article attached and I know this is going to sound dumb but .... Is this LinkedIn the same company as the social media for business company that I know of or are they something else? None of the articles actually mention what they do .. just that the offices are cool. I did not know that they were an Omaha based company but they sure do pop up a lot on my work pc. I have ended up putting them to the spam folder. Sorry LinkedIn ..... if in fact you are the same company.

Yes, social media for business.

The site is a mess (cluttered) and they send way too many emails...

It is the same. They are not an Omaha based company they are a Silicon Valley based company. Their Headquarters is in Mountain View, CA. They were started by and staffed early on by a number of PayPal alum so they at one time were looking at following the PayPal model and building a large back-office operation in Omaha, That changed but they still have a decent sized presence in Omaha. The have offices around the world.

They are very valuable company worth about $33 billion. They are one of the only Social Media Companies that have always been profitable and have multiple revenue streams.

Linkedin's stock fell 47% in one day last month as a result of being over valued. Wonder if this steep decline will result in any job losses in the area.

This was to help them get by until a new building is built. They are out of room and have their employees split between two cramped buildings. I expect something to be announced soon and to be compared to Hudl's location in Lincoln.

Interesting! If they are staying out west being one of the first anchor tenants at West Farm would be cool.

From what I hear Sterling Ridge and West Farms were the two top choices by a long ways. Their employees live out west and it did not make sense to make them go downtown. Since about November it sounded like Sterling Ridge was going to be the choice.

Honestly in 2019 what company can't say most of their employees live closer to those developments?

I would say plenty. I’ve lived in Omaha over 60 years but practically none of my friends live west of I-680.

You mean like LinkedIn? I bet Omaha is one of the only cities that has major offices for companies like Yahoo and LinkedIn in suburban office parks. My point is the "we want to be closer to our employees" is a cop out. What's they really mean is our local decision makers live in West Omaha.

I think by Local Decision Makers he means the people at the top, not necessarily the rest of the employee force beneath them

"Decision makers" are still employees. As long as two people live near 132nd and Pacific, then the statement about being closer to employees is absolutely true.

Also, who cares.

True. Ken Lay moved to Houston, so moving the entire Enron company from Omaha to Houston was a great big “Who Cares”. Same with the new CEO of ConAgra. He lived in Chicagoland, so by god it made sense for that decision maker to move the company HQ near to where he lived.

This might be hard for some people to wrap their minds around but LinkedIn is really good to their employees. They care about there employees and everyone's opinion counts. They actually asked them what their top choices were for a new location. I guess that part of the reason they are a great place to work at.

Exactly. The only reason LinkedIn is in town is to be close to a specific pool of talent they're after, and if the talent is in the burbs or wants to work in the burbs, the office will be in the burbs. They're not catering to a group of executives there. How many execs do they even have in Omaha? Probably mostly ICs?

LinkedIn announced yesterday that they were laying off 6% (960) of their employees. The layoffs affected the company’s Global Sales and Talent Acquisition organizations. Some of these jobs are in the Omaha location but not sure how many.

I'm always surprised how big LinkedIn is. Granted, I really don't know much about how they make money and how many people that takes. I was surprised it warranted an Omaha office (Though, I'm glad they chose West O. This crapp of everyone heading eastbound in the morning and westbound in the afternoon has gotten old. There are more places besides downtown/midtown to locate your offices).

For me, LinkedIn always just been a boring version of Facebook. The only people who seem to use it heavily are salesmen, recruiters, and the unemployed. The cheesy quotes about what good leadership is that fill the feed cause incessant eye-rolling in me.

This statement is interesting, mostly because there is significantly more office space outside of downtown/midtown than there is in downtown/midtown on a square footage basis. Downtown/midtown has about 10 million SF compared to 35 million SF as a metropolitan area, using round numbers. I believe actually if you were to compare just downtown midtown to west dodge/regency/old mill/miracle hills they’re identical in terms of square feet.

My experience is that Eastbound traffic in the evenings, precovid, was just as bad, if not worse that westbound. That was a stark change from 4-5 years ago. Additionally, traffic on non highway arteries like maple, L and center west of 90th are getting progressively worse, though that's primarily westbound. Thank you urban sprawl!
