Lina's Mexican Restaurant. They have locations in Omaha, Des Moines and Wichita. It looks really nice on the outside and very professional signage.Candleshoe wrote:socaln8v wrote:Hello everyone,
Is there anything new going on at the KFC that was on 2nd street? It looked to me today that it was being painted so I wondered if it's being prepped for selling or is there another restaurant already taking over. Thanks. Love this thread for interesting GI info.
Only thing I've heard is that somebody from Omaha was opening a Mexican restaurant there. No other details yet...

Sounds like private funding will be a huge part of this. I like that there is so much green space included on this and expanding the lake will be nice. It's probably going to take a couple of decades for it to be all built out, in which time it will likely be altered more than once.

Juice Stop coming to GI, going in where the old Schlotzsky's Deli use to be behind Runza on Webb Road.

There isn't much space there between Taco Bell and the bank. According to the assessors website, the owner of that land is the same owner of Taco Bell. I wonder if its a parking extension or something utility like that. Just my speculation.Yankeesnick wrote: Tue Jun 12, 2018 4:43 pm I saw this afternoon dirt work is going on in the lot directly North of the Taco Bell on State and Diers, anyone know who’s building there?

Ampride and Midas at Webb Rd and Old Potash Hwy is now closed. As we speak, a sign company is putting up Pump and Pantry signage.

Anyone know what's going on with the old Uncle Ed's (I think) lot over on Locust. Rumor was that Burger King was moving but I there hasn't been anything. Did they hold off on it?

Preliminary plat drawing shows a building with four south entrances, so my guess is four very small shops or two larger shops. Limited parking on the south and west with what appears to be a drive around the building. No specific names of potential occupants on the plat drawing.Yankeesnick wrote: Wed Jul 18, 2018 4:40 pm Saw a crew was putting up sticks on that lot directly North of Taco Bell on the corner of State and Diers. Hi! Here’s a couple things I know of:
- Petsense is not renewing their lease, which I think is up in September
- Bartz Floral on Locust is closing, and merging with Snow’s Floral on Webb
- A new daycare called The Teaching Tree is going up behind the Carlos O’Kelly’s off State Street
Anyone happen to know what the future holds for the old Starr elementary off South Locust, once Jefferson is finished?

Driving into town the other night, I noticed a structure going up just north of the new hospital. It would be directly west of the gas station/Dr. Johns at Hwy 281 & Hwy 34. Any news on what this is?
Speaking of the new hospital, I look forward to the news of the development that will spur in that area.

I believe that is the new locaton for Lutz, an accounting/tax firm that recently (May 1) took over Shonsey & Associates in GI. Lutz announced a new 10,000 sq. ft. facility back in April and had broken ground near the intersection of Hwy 281 and Husker Hwy.gisbuxfan wrote: Mon Jul 23, 2018 8:59 am Driving into town the other night, I noticed a structure going up just north of the new hospital. Word is that Jay Vavricek is working on opening a sit down restaurant in the old Antique Warehouse store at 3rd and Elm downtown (Oops, I mean "Railside"). It's a pretty nice looking building from the outside.

Attendance had been dropping a bit each season after GM Mike McCoy left the team a few years ago. He was a super aggressive promoter and always got butts in seats. We had been loyal ticket holders up until 2017 when we started to lose interest. The revolving door of players that the IFL seemingly encourages doesn't do it for me.
Glad to see the direction that Charlie Bosselman appears to be taking this year. He'd been hinting at some Husker signings and this is a pretty big "get" to kick things off with.

Just announced that the 1 and 5 year roads plans in GI include more roundabouts on Old Potash from North Road to Webb Road. Webb would be awesome as that intersection is prone to so many T-bone wrecks by folks trying to beat the red light.
Also announced that it's all but a done deal that the 5-Points intersection of Broadwell Ave/Eddy Street/State Street will be converted to a multi lane Roundabout. At least a couple of years before the rebuild begins. That one will probably get a ton of "letters to the editor" about school traffic and such.
