New Taxi Company Ownership

Post by nativeomahan »

My driver told me today that virtually all Omaha taxi companies have been sold to a Parisian corporation. The unified company will operate as Z-Taxi, with about 100 brand new taxis hitting the streets about the time of the CWS in June.

If they don't change their prices and reliability then it doesn't matter who owns them. Uber and Lyft are dominating.

How could a Taxi company even compete with Uber or Lyft with the huge difference in overhead?

When we arrived in Omaha a few days ago there was no evidence yet of the new taxis. Lots of the big old beasts lined up outside the terminal.

I have started Ztrip cars around town. Most look like brand new sedans, but that is only a small anecdotal sample size.

You own the company or you are riding in them?

Just saw a story on channel 7. Are you John D or Connor R?

I was driving down Dodge and one of those Z- taxis was trying to weasel in on me in thick traffic. I did not let him in. Those are little cars I don't want to ride in one of them. Give me the back seat of one of those big old Happy Cabs.

It's the same folks just with newer cars.

Most of the drivers with the taxi co are good folks, I'll be using them when it's not prohibatively expensive.

I hope they're able to reduce the cost of taxis. A couple years ago, I took a taxi from 156th St to the airport and it was $60!! That's more than it cost me to take a 20 mile ride in Philadelphia!!

This is why Uber and Lyft have done so well here.
