Lets hope you heard wrong. Getting a Hooters out here would be not what most of us would want at all. That is kind of an out of the way bad place back in there to stick a restaurant truth be known.

Honestly, the problem I see with that Southport location is a lack of parking. I know the debate about big suburban developments and their over reliance on huge parking lots gets debated on here, but I think this will always be an issue for this development.

On weekends nights when there is a big new release in theaters, Alamo's lot is totally full and it spills into the lot to the South as well as the Boot Barn lot to the East. I wouldn't be overly happy about that if I were a business owner for one of those other businesses. I typically park in front of the strip mall myself.

There is about to be that new Asian Steak/Sushi restaurant going in there. That's probably going to bring in some traffic and same goes for the old Playmakers spot if another restaurant comes in there and gets their act together.

Oh, and I'm torn on Hooters. I don't think we need yet another sports bar, but I did always kind of like their wing.

A new place named Ozzy's Roadhouse Sports Pub will be opening up in that spot. Their web developers should probably pony up to actually buy the stock photos on their website, though. Way to leave the watermarks in place and make it *obvious* that you've stolen the photos, guys. (And yeah, it's probably a staging site since it's not open yet, but lock that site down with a password! Sloppy web development right there. )

Also confirmation in the OWH about the Alamo Drafthouse being up for sale (which was mentioned a few times on this board previously). But the theater has a 20-year lease signed in 2015 that will be inherited by the new owners and isn't going anywhere.

Alamo Drafthouse building is for sale, but movie theater staying put

The local Alamo Drafthouse franchise entered a 20-year lease with Store Capital in 2015, said Alamo franchisee principal Tyler Calabrese.

La Vista’s Southport development has continued to add restaurants and other retail, including a soon-to-open Osaka Steakhouse and Sushi Bar.

Judging by how lazy their website development is and their shear lack of removing watermarks, I'm guessing it will be just like Playmakers and go belly up in no time.

I will definitely give it a try though since I live less than 3 minutes away from it.

After doing some digging, it appears a "Miller, Scott J." is the owner (according the liquor license application). He was/is the current manager of the Old Chicago at Shadow Lake Town Center. He has a pretty exclusive rap sheet with alcohol as well...

Oh man. Ozzy's roadhouse sounds like another disaster waiting to happen in that bay. This will likely quickly become one of those cursed locations that nothing can stay open at.

Of course, another tired sports bar in that location. Ugh. Hard pass. When will they learn? Liquid Sunshine is basically already a sports bar. This will fail and fail hard.

Something is going in between Boot Ban and the Mutual of Omaha Bank, but I can't remember what it is at the moment.

That was supposed to be Ole's out of Paxton, but that property went back on the market.

I do love that new DD & Sports Clips mini strip center, and the Embassy hotel. Nice! Very suitable for the area. It will be nice to drive along that stretch and have businesses there, instead of this odd & lengthy "countryside in the city" jaunt through Boys Town & cornfields on the way to the Millard area from West Dodge Rd.

The address listed on Ozzy's liquor license application is the old Playmakers address, and it was approved. So unless something happened there, Legends would have to be going somewhere else...and three sports bars (if you count Hooters as a sports bar) in one development is overkill even by sports bar standards. Hmm.

Wow. Just when I thought I'd seen it all, Sarpy county is doubling down on sports bars by putting them across the parking lot from each other. God forbid we get something other than a sports bar in that area.

And, as I've said, Liquid Sunshine essentially operates as a sports bar too. So, we'll have 3 sports bars between Liquid Sunshine, Hooters, and Ozzy's/Legends in the same development.

One of these is sure to fail.

I think the point is that Sarpy (La Vista and Papillion specifically) have a dearth of options that aren't sports bars. Every time a new development goes in, I hope for a decent Italian restaurant, seafood, or a 2nd steakhouse that isn't Texas Roadhouse...instead, we get a sports bar. Every. single. time.

I will say that Sarpy has a fair number of decent Asian restaurants, but there are certainly holes in the restaurant portfolio in that part of the metro. Instead of filling those holes, we keep getting the same uninspired sports bar concepts.

My experience at Rathskellar was much different. Food was very good. But service lacking, I figured it was because it was new and that will adjust.

In my opinion Southport totally missed the opportunity to be a destination entertainment area when it designed its structures around parking lots, rather than vice versa. I am guessing that there are about 600 hotel rooms out there. Maybe more. But can you comfortably head out the door of your hotel on foot and grab a movie, or dine at a decent restaurant? No. Most of the very few full service restaurants at Southport are invisible to anyone staying in a hotel that would be unfamiliar with the area. Same with the movie theatre. What they can see are acres and acres of parking lots.
Such a blown opportunity. One wonders what the developers of Southport were thinking.

Remember, at one point, Southport was proposed as one of the outlet malls. I feel that would have substantially helped the area, but of course the metro doesn't need multiple outlet malls so once NEX got theirs moving, Southport wasn't going to get that.

I don't remember about it being proposed for an outlet mall but I do remember a mall being proposed there. It was beaten to the punch by Oak View and the proposal died. Then Oak View did.

That portion of Southport was also one of three finalists for Werner Park before the 370 site was chosen; it was actually the favorite and the site just about everyone preferred. But it would have cost $20m more, so they went to 120th and 370 instead. And yes, it was also pitched as a site for an outlet mall before NEX was underway in Gretna...
