20 Story Tower Proposed for 12th & Q

That sharp & nice-looking building would just "add a cherry on top" on Downtown Lincoln -- for sure. It may not look that impressive at a distance or from the stadium, but when you're in it (working, living, shopping, eating), it really is a delightful downtown. On many street corners, it has nice clean urban scenes to enjoy, and I love the Husker red 'N' banners on light poles, mixed with the greenery. It feels like the true "heartbeat" of Nebraska there. There is a good batch of nice-looking, enjoyable historic gems (the main buildings I mean are not seen in these 3 pics).

I looks like this project is just moving right along. There will be additional sidewalk improvements which should add to the classiness of the building. I am glad to see that the units are purchase only. I am interested in how well the units will sell. If they sell quickly, I hope Omaha and other developers in the region take note.

Fantastic. This is so exciting. What's so amazing is that this will be the city's new second tallest and yet the construction costs are only about half of what the other two recent failed highrise proposals were -- and they were both shorter buildings.

In college, my advisor's office was on the 10th floor of Oldfather Hall on the south side of the building. I remember the first time I went up there to talk to him, it was dusk and the lights of downtown were already glowing and you could see straight down 13th street -- which is the closest thing Lincoln has to a "canyon" of highrises. My jaw dropped and I said, "Whoa! Nice view." And my advisor nodded with obvious satisfaction, as if the same thought occurred to him every single time he saw it and he said, "Yeah... It is."

I can only imagine what his office view will look like in two years. Pretty cool.

Nice! I am really excited to see this project go up. I hope it leads to more high rises, maybe an office tower, in dt Lincoln.

It will be so nice to go to Lincoln and see a new tall building. Nothing against the few tall buildings they have now. But it seems like it’s been a really long time since Lincoln has added any significant height. Looking forward to this. Probably the best downtown project Lincoln has seen in 30 years.

Construction starting this week. After several projects being delayed or abandoned this is great news. Lincoln is certainly not one that quickly builds.

Yeah!!! Finally, Lincoln is gonna have a very likable skyline for its size. It just takes this one major building to make the difference. I love this for Lincoln!!

There's something about "Lincoln, Nebraska" that gives me feelings like "Columbus, Ohio" or "Lexington, Kentucky" -- like a city in the true heart of the state. There's no arguing it isn't fully authentic.

"Omaha, Nebraska" is fully authentic "Nebraska", of course, but it still reminds more of hearing "Cincinnati, Ohio" or "Louisville, Kentucky", which is on the border of the state, and influenced somewhat by two states. That makes a difference. (However, Cincinnati & Louisville straddle the Midwest & the Upper South, and Omaha, although on the border of the state, doesn't straddle two separate defined regions -- just like Kansas City & St Louis. Iowa & Nebraska are both the "Great Plains" or "Midwest.")

I hope this gets built fast and is on the “fast track”. It seems like some buildings go up fast (like the new HDR building) and others take forever like the Hilton Garden inn at Aksarben village. Lincoln has had to wait so long to add height to their skyline. Even smaller Iowa City has added a nice looking mid rise residential tower in recent years. C’mon Lincoln you can do it !

Was in Lincoln today, drove by the site. They are definitely doing some prep work. My guess the steel might not start to rise till spring. This is a huge project for Lincoln. And will be the tallest building built in the state since Omaha’s UP building 15 years ago. The TD Ameritrade building built in 2013 in West Omaha is listed at 230 ft, this is supposed to be 240ft. After many decades of looking the same Lincoln’s skyline is going to look a little different and hopefully better. It’s been a long wait.

Lincoln is showing Omaha how it's done. Building a tower without all the build up and anticipation. I really hope developers and investors in Omaha take notice and realize not every new high rise has to fill a whole city block. They can build one of these in that spot on 20th and farnam we were talking about in the urban grocery thread.

Should top out in August of 2020. 250 feet. Beating US Bank tower by 30 feet to assume second tallest in the city. The article says that it will be the tallest primarily residential building in Nebraska, but that title will still be held by Elmwood Tower (320 feet). Still, it's an impressive addition to Lincoln.

Interesting read. We have a pretty good pulse on projects here in Omaha, but the Lincoln projects don't get quite the coverage. No real closure on a lot of the bigger projects that have come and gone through Lincoln in the past 10 years or so until I read this article.

Coming along nicely, should start popping above the garage soon. Omaha needs to try one of these either downtown or Blackstone. This should have a significant impact on Lincoln’s skyline which could use a new look, especially with some of the other Big Ten cities adding height to there skylines in recent years. Iowa City, Madison and East Lansing have all built residential highrises recently.

I have not been to Lincoln since this summer, sure it’s looking pretty impressive by now. Be nice to see some more recent pics. A 20 story building being built in Nebraska is somewhat of a rare occurrence.
