Except for coastal areas Florida actually resembles central Nebraska. Flat and populated with cattle. With equally miserable weather.
Funny you say that. My sister had no idea how miserable the heat and humidity is there. She said that she traded 3 months of cold for 8 months of stink and heat

Ricketts makes Nebraska one of two states without a census committee

One study suggests that for every person who fails to be counted, Nebraska misses out on $21,000 in federal funding over the next decade, a figure that can easily add up to millions of dollars if the count is short.

Not a smart move by Ricketts. I’m certain he could find other state governmental fat to trim..Which would likely save the state significantly more money..

Bad form :koko: ...

Ricketts has got to be my least favorite politician in the nation.

Ricketts is blocking this because leftist advocacy groups want to stack the deck on the census and he knows it. They are mad and using the media as their unquestioning mouthpiece to make him look bad in the process.

Politics should not be the factor in this decision. If the state of Nebraska is undercounted, it’ll end up costing the state much more than this $21k “cost savings”..

Again, unwise move by Ricketts...

The connection between people being undercounted and having this commission (which will cost money) seems blurry at best. This just seems that the leftists who want to shoot at the GOP and Ricketts will not have a state commission as an aiming platform.

How would leftist advocacy groups be able to stack the deck in a state completely run by Republicans?

From the article.

To ensure that everyone is counted, the Census Bureau has been encouraging states to set up statewide complete count committees — a committee made up of a spectrum of leaders from state and local government, education, business, health care and community organizations — that can develop and implement an awareness campaign to encourage all households to respond to the census.

Legislative Bill 436 would create a 23-member Nebraska Complete Count Commission to develop and help administer a statewide outreach strategy to encourage full participation in the census. It would be led by the secretary of state and include seven representatives of cities or counties, five from school districts, four representatives of organizations representing minorities, three business representatives and others, including a representative of the governor.

The cost of the committee is estimated to be about $110,000.

So about more 52 people part in the Census and committee paid for. $110k is pocket change for Rickett
