Holland Basham - Mixed Use?
I put this in the rumor section since nothing has been officially announced that I'm aware of but I can say with near certainty (unless the deal falls through which is unlikely) that the H&H Automotive Mini dealership building next to the Westroads Mall was purchased by Governor Pete Ricketts and will be converted into a high end buffalo/steakhouse in the near future. I know this because I work for the auto group that owns the building - should be a pretty cool building for a restaurant like that though.

I believe you have the wrong generation of Ricketts. I heard he also owns the other Buffalo place down on 76th and Dodge.stormchaser wrote: Fri May 10, 2019 2:33 am I put this in the rumor section since nothing has been officially announced that I'm aware of but I can say with near certainty (unless the deal falls through which is unlikely) that the H&H Automotive Mini dealership building next to the Westroads Mall was purchased by Governor Pete Ricketts and will be converted into a high end buffalo/steakhouse in the near future. Holland Basham - Mixed Use?
On Holland Basham's website, there's a mixed use development listed in the featured projects section.
https://hollandbasham.com/projects/mixe ... velopment/
"Three buildings with stacked levels of programming are connected with sky bridges to create this mixed-use development featuring 120,000 s.f. of office space combined with 35,000 s.f. of retail space, a skyline restaurant, a 104,000 s.f. hotel, 120,000 s.f of luxury condos, and parking located partially below grade. The buildings are organized to maximize the “prairie landscape” and to provide a unique experience for pedestrian traffic and shared outdoor amenities."
However, I have no idea where this development even could be. A redesign of Carson Wealth came to mind, but that's not it, plus that's by Leo A. Daly. The prairie landscape line maybe brought up Sarpy vibes, but then the Omaha "listing" wouldn't fit.

Does this ring a bell for anyone?

Maybe when they say it will maximize the "prairie landscape" they're referring to the flat land of the prairie? Isnt Holland Basham the company who did the design for the Lanoha tower?Bomaha wrote: Fri Sep 25, 2020 10:24 pm On Holland Basham's website, there's a mixed use development listed in the featured projects section.

Ricketts project on the old car dealerships at Westroads is my prediction. Fits with the rumors I heard here especially the "skyline restaurant."

Re: Holland Basham - Mixed Use?
I think your right. There have been a few rumors floating around and this project fits them fairly well. This rendering looks huge though. It would really fill the property Ricketts purchased. Additionally, I have been wanting some height and a residential component to Westroads for a while. However I was not really imaging something that large, if in fact this is for that spot. That tower is almost 20 stories and the companion towers are 10+! I would like to see something like this at the Civic site, like doc fate said, but this is looking like the Westroads Ricketts project to me.iamjacobm wrote: Fri Sep 25, 2020 10:51 pm Ricketts project on the old car dealerships at Westroads is my prediction. A residential height component in the area to match Top Golf would be a nice compliment.. I was at Westroads yesterday afternoon and drove around the area.. That Top Golf development has some huge height to it..
I guess I didn’t realize just how much until I drove right past.. Top Golf is massive...

Perhaps the first question anyone should ask ...
What the heck is meant by “to maximize the prairie landscape” ?
Sounds like curator speak for “look how smart we are”.
There hasn’t been prairie in downtown Omaha for 150 years so you can forget nothing east of 90th street .. unless built on the riverfront.
That said ... the stacked building is the cool one.

And wow imagine this and then the regency lodge location being built. Would make a nice corridor, but yes.... Would also fit the civic site as well.

I wasn't here back when TDA chose Old Mill to build their HQ, but did locals have that same sentiment back then about that project? I would like to see something like this at the Civic Site or Lot B, but this is looking like the mystery Rickett's project at Westroads. Goes to show you; if you want an impressive project for Omaha, you just need a really rich guy/family to be the primary investor. I hope the Mayor, or whoever ends up moving the Civic Site project, sees this and sees what's possible for an 8 acre site. My words to them is not to settle on any old proposal for the Civic Site!Linkin5 wrote: Sat Sep 26, 2020 2:25 pm Wow that it is a massive development, would be kind of sad to see this happen so far out west.

Re: Holland Basham - Mixed Use?
I know I did... I was definitely in the minority of liking the design of that building, but It has always felt like a loss to me for a company like that to build a building like that not Downtown. But it was their decision, and it still looks good where it is. In the same way, we can't force companies to build downtown if it doesnt make sense to them. So yeah, this thing and TDA (and what would have been HDR) would absolutely look great downtown. And somehow we missed the latter two. Imagine the impact just those two buildings would have had Downtown. But on the other hand, I have always thought Omaha would be better with more big office buildings along its freeways, too.ita wrote: Sat Sep 26, 2020 4:34 pmI wasn't here back when TDA chose Old Mill to build their HQ, but did locals have that same sentiment back then about that project? In the rendering you can totally see the poles for Top Golf behind the tree and you can also see the fence around the parking at PF Changs. 100% Westroads.
I took a google street view like Jacob but I went in the other lanes and tried to line it up just like the rendering.

Maybe Rickets knows about Shwab expansion in Omaha. It is a risk building an Office without tenants. Total speculation on my part.

Nice thought! Weren't Pete and Joe Ricketts intially in discussions with Schwab about keeping TD Ameritrade jobs in Omaha when the deal was announced? Maybe pulled off a little more than that?

Could be...I mean, he went from redeveloped ng the Mini dealership to this huge development. There has to something that changed his mind, particularly in this economic climate.Doctor Fate wrote: Mon Sep 28, 2020 7:18 pmNice thought! That will be the most interesting project in Omaha in a while. I'm glad it's by Westroads so it can stand out some more because it's a beautiful development.

It’s not a slam dunk this development is headed for Westroads.. There has been no official announcement..
But it’s the feeling of the majority of us here that Westroads is the most likely place it’ll go if/when built...

I am sure you all saw the news about Joe Ricketts wanting to start a news outlet. Could this possible project be a monument for that new venture? The office tower will be heretofor known as the Straight Arrow Tower.

His previous media company, DNAinfo, which covered local news in Chicago and New York, was solid. It was pretty unbiased and seemed to cover a lot of stuff that may have fallen through the cracks (with regard to Chicago, the Tribune was all about big stories while the local tv affiliates only cared about murder and car crashes). His new media company sounds like it’s the same, but on a National level. I’d be cool with that.

Re: Holland Basham - Mixed Use?
The stories on this effort was that he wanted to have a data driven news source that would be as unbiased as possible.
One thing about a guy like him is that having to make big bets with lots of his and other people’s money gives him an appreciation for data. Like with my job, you need to give transfusions to sick kids and buy the attendant risks? Better have reliable data to base your judgements upon.
Current news outlets have so many flaws, reasonable people can’t trust them anymore (nor should they.). It might be worth giving this a few months to gel and see if it is real or not.
It would be tremendous to have a data source you can actually not turn into the old Bill Hicks joke the“well loved Ted Turner CNN” joke.
BTW, if you haven’t encountered any of his jokes, he was David Letterman’s favorite comedian and just insanely funny.
