With all highways across the Platte closed/destroyed, everyone now has to use I80 to cross the Platte river. I wonder if that had an effect on the foot traffic.

I doubt it.
For everyone that needed went by due to flooding stopping was probably the least of their thoughts. In addition for everyone that went by that had to there is someone that might have been there that couldn't even find a way with roads closed.

As it warms it will be busy. A couple of weeks ago on the weekend when I drove by on both Sat and Sun it was the same way. PArking was packed.

I wonder what is will be like when it REALLY gets busy with the parking they have taken out for construction.

We are the non-outlet outlet

That is one of the more common complaints. They advertise it as an outlet mall and many of the stores refer to themselves as outlets, but the pricing isn't much better than it is at the standard mall or shopping plaza. People arrive expecting awesome discounts and don't find many. Still, the customers keep coming so it isn't much of a deterrent.

Were you keeping this in your back pocket the last (almost) 5 years? Or did you happen to come across this recently? In any case, I am sure Grandpa is a man of his word, and I don't know if we have statistical data to back this up, but NEX does not appear to be losing money or is like a ghost town.

They are still packing them in out there 5 years later. I don't eat when I go. We usually go, buy what we need and leave.

I have been at an Outlet Mall outside Tampa and there is a food court building with 5 fast-food counters but no real restaurant.

Seriously, do some of you really want a steak house or sushi or whatever high end food at an outlet mall? This is just my opinion but someone recently posted here that it's "shop til you drop & then home"...nail on the head. There is one just north of Cincinnati that has pretty much every outlet mall store you'd want & the food court is basic quick food ala Auntie Anne's,etc. Again, in my opinion an outlet mall is a specialty destination meant for shopping and leaving. I doubt anyone plans a vacation around an outlet mall. I only know of the one in Cincinnati because we were driving back from a visit to family and my wife said "We've driven past that outlet mall a few times. Let's check it out." We got some nice deals & without eating a steak we continued our drive back to Detroit.

I just looked at the post above & the mall mentioned is Tampa Premium Outlets, pretty much the same as Cincinnati Premium outlets, both owned by Simon. The only outlet mall I can think of that is more upscale in terms of food is Sawgrass Mills, just west of Ft. Lauderdale in Sunrise, Florida. It's enormous. 350 stores.

I think it was just Grandpa trying to defend his prediction from 5 years ago, equivocating the lack of actual restaurants with the project being unsuccessful. I think most agree that the outlets are shop and go for the most part. However, there was a recent Grow Omaha show with someone, maybe the mayor of Gretna, that mentioned that they have more diverse plans for the surrounding area, possibly office space. If that is the case and there are other developments around that area, maybe restaurants would be a good fit. Lastly, you would be surprised about people vacationing around retail. There was a large group, maybe 200 women, from the Sioux City area and thereabouts, the planned a weekend shopping trip, which included NEX. I have never seen Local so packed.

You are correct. There aren’t going to be restauranst in an outlet mall. And as ita was saying grandpa was just trying to justify his prediction. Now the one in Tampa i referred to does have several restaurants outside its perimeter BUT this mall is right off I-75 and highway 54 so major traffic flows both ways,

I don't feel compelled now to drive to Gretna to pay 75 dollars for a polo shirt that has a label on it that says untucked I do not need a label on my shirt to give me permission to wear it untucked. I didn't even know they sold polos, but their other shirts look good, IMO. I'm also a man that does not like to tuck in my shirt, so I'm biased.

I think some of us want to know, including Uffda (sorry if I am speaking for you) if you are going to accept a new forum name chosen by Professor Woland in 8 days, if NEX isn't known as a failing retail venture by that time. Because I think I this point, most would say (and maybe this is a huge presumption) that it's been 5 years since your gentleman's bet, and NEX is not "known to be in trouble" nor is it suffering from "stores closing and poor crowds and stores losing money."

Another addition to the NEX lineup: Pendleton. Never heard of it, but it looks like a PNW clothing and accessories store. They will actually open on June 28 before Untuckit and Vineyard Vines, which open on July 1. Anyway, NEX is putting in the work and getting new to the region retailers.
