It will be sad to see the tree farm go. The area does need a gas station and some other commercial mixed in will be well used.

At 180th and Blondo, longtime Mulhall family tree farm to make way for housing, businesses

In July, grading is expected to start on the first phase. Roads and infrastructure would follow, and, if all goes as planned, residences — about 110 for-sale houses and villas — could start rising in two years.

The second phase, closest to the 180th and Blondo intersection, would include apartments, small businesses and retailers catering to needs of area residents. That likely will wait, the developers said, until after the future bridge and other road improvements open the way for traffic to flow along 180th Street between Blondo and West Dodge Road.

The new bridge system — construction is expected to start in early 2020 and finish within three years — would span the Old Lincoln Highway, railroad tracks and creek that currently block the flow of vehicles on that stretch of what would be 180th Street.

Exciting! I love that specific area developing.... (It's around that old brick highway with all the big cottonwoods.) It was predictable for years, of course, that nursery would eventually have to go...

I like that name "Bluestem Meadows." It sounds perfect for the Nebraska prairie... (I'm wondering if "Bluestem is a prairie flower? I think it is.)

Those apartments are very sharp. Thumbs up,.imo. I wonder if they are CIP? If not, CIP definitely started a design trend... (Or, maybe they were just the forerunners in the Omaha/Lincoln areas of a design trend happening all over... Not sure.)

Lol. I agree. Nebraska needs to embrace its beautiful, unique prairie landacape. Which, btw, you don't see/hear ironically in Omaha's Chamber slogan: "We Dont Coast." Everything about it sounds so negative & insecure & defensive towards the coasts. Years back, there was some "coast" saying in the airport, too. Ugh, I hate when Omaha sounds insecure like that. Embarrasing! You dont hear Dallas-FW worried about that, or sounding like that. Or, Chicago. Or, Minneapolis -- St Paul. Not everybody wants to live on a coast, and deal with tsunamis, floods, rising seas, hurricanes. Look at the problems Miami, Boston, and New York are already having with sea level rise. I bet they wish they were "intercontinental Omaha" now, or I'm sure they will eventually.

I can't recall exactly but wasn't Harms Junkyard once located at 180th Blondo? Where was it if that is wrong. That was a very big junkyard back in the 60s and 70s. I remember it covering acres and acres.

There used to be a big junkyard out that way? Interesting. The only junkyard I know nowadays is down near Bellevue, near 'Q' street. It is big & bleak. It reminds me of the settings in one of those bleak, sci-fi movies...
