Way cool. What an improvement.
I can get pushed out because I'm "too much" for some. Then, an observer of me comes suddenly swooping in to "fill my shoes." People are always more accepting of the new one, because their feathers aren't truly ruffled by them. (Yawn) I can count on it every time.

There are any number of such indoor restaurants with open air second levels in Puerto Vallarta. They are wildly popular. Pitch and 1912 do it well in Omaha. There are probably a few others. Nice to see the number expanding.

Looks great, good fix for a very boring, industrial looking corner.

Agreed. I think it's an improvement. I think that corner has more potential that some restaurant and retail space, but it's an improvement.

I don't think the elevations on page 10 are correct. The Howard Street elevation is actually the 14th Street elevation and vice versa.

Not too bad. The corner structure is an eyesore. Next up needs to be the corner of 15th and Howard.

Throwback Arcade Lounge. Construction continues at a steady pace and here's the website: https://www.throwbackarcadelounge.com/ - Pretty disappointed in the concept tbh, especially for new construction and a rooftop feature. Should've used this building... https://www.loopnet.com/Listing/1516-Jo ... /20026551/.

Well, the place is named “Throwback Arcade” and has a “Married with Children” 1990’s sitcom reference on their website, lol..

I don’t have an issue with the concept...

I was referring to the already existing space. I'd never heard of it or the club it was previously.

Signage completed. Interior installation is progressing. The best news, streets are getting opened up.

I’m curious about the audience for this place. What is the demographic they hope to continuously attract?

I would assume similar to Beercade. With more of a club atmosphere than a tavern.

Liquor license denied for downtown Omaha lounge
Omaha's City Council voted to deny the liquor license of a troubled downtown bar on Tuesday.

Complaints against the Throwback Arcade Lounge on Howard Street have been stacking up in recent months. Tavern reports mostly outline disturbances and fights, according to police testimony.

Security camera video from April shows a mix of police and patrons outside the lounge after a large fight broke out, closing the streets nearby. A police sergeant told the city an off-duty police officer was pepper-sprayed by a member of the bar's security.

"We know we're across the street from the police station. But we do everything that we can, you know, to keep it safe," said Breana Pham-Carr, who manages the lounge.

The two bar managers and their lawyer said the club faced a learning curve after it opened in November 2020. A police sergeant shared 16 tavern reports with the city council since that opening; most of them are fights involving calling the police for help.
...
Council member Danny Begley and other city officials say the bar has previously tried to remedy other incidents by saying they would sell the bar but didn't follow through on at least two occasions.

The bar must now appeal to the Nebraska Liquor Control Commission to try to keep its license. The commission makes the ultimate ruling by vote. The city council vote carries a lot of weight.

i used to pass by there on my way to work during odd hours, and on more than one occasion there were fights where there weren't police called. The place seems like a cool idea but if you can't keep control of your |expletive|, then you shouldn't operate.

I was there for that hearing. Our agenda item was after it so we had to sit through the whole hearing. It was very interesting. They had to do the "Long Form Application", it was more like a court case than a standard liquor license hearing. The city attorney acted like a prosecutor, the applicant had an attorney, both could cross examine witnesses. Lots of interesting testimony came out during that 90 min hearing. Everything from Noise complaints, fights, domestic abuse, drug use, and one neighbor even said he witnessed public sex in the street.

Even though the City Council denied the license, its actually up to the state. The City Council was only a recommendation to the state.

Downtown Omaha bar awaits its fate as state officials debate its liquor license

The future of a downtown Omaha bar is up in the air as the Nebraska Liquor Control Commission debated whether it should have a liquor license. The Omaha City Council denied Throwback Arcade Lounge its license in June. The council cited complaints outlining disturbances and fights, but club managers said they faced a learning curve since opening in 2020. The lounge appealed to the state board.

Liquor license for downtown Omaha bar approved by state officials with long list of conditions

The liquor license for a downtown Omaha bar was approved — with a long list of conditions. The Nebraska Liquor Control Commission approved the license for Throwback Arcade Lounge on Thursday, after it was denied by the Omaha City Council in June. The council cited complaints outlining disturbances and fights, but club managers said they faced a learning curve since opening in 2020.

This is a good example of new construction of what appears to be a very nice lounge with an outdoor beer garden type space fairly unique to downtown Omaha falling into absolutely the wrong hands and attracting a clientele that no business should ever desire to have walk through their doors. Just sad.

The image/concept of this place looks to me like the sort of place that would attract the wrong crowd. The good news is the article says the owner is actively trying to sell it.

The structure itself looks like a good potential spot for a brew pub or wine bar.

Yes a brewpub or wine bar or something akin to the Upstream property down the street would seem like a great fit. It sits on the edge of the Old Market and close to the Orpheum and nearby upscale hotels. It certainly has good potential. But the very last thing this particular neighborhood needs is a skanky bar catering to customers who don’t know how to manage their liquor consumption or control their testosterone.
At least it’s just a few steps from the current police HQ.

Liquor Control Commission denies downtown Omaha bar from extending hours

The Nebraska Liquor Control Commission denied Throwback Arcade Lounge from extending its business hours. The owner made the request after going without a tavern report since November. Action from the city of Omaha started after police and Old Market residents raised complaints last year.

An April video showed a snapshot of the public safety concerns from Omaha police: patrons exiting the bar and gathering on the street. A police sergeant said a fight broke out, forcing officers to shut down 14th and Howard streets. Restrictions that started in September limited the bar by ending drink sales after 1 a.m. and pausing third-party events.
