Announcement coming this Friday. Will be interesting to see if current producer promoted to on air.
Greg
You don't think they make the same mistake 1620 made and just move an intern/producer into the 2PM slot do you. I hope they get Tony Boone for that spot or maybe since the OWH is cutting staff left and right Severe takes a buy out and moves back into the afternoon spot.

I would not be surprised either way. I could see Boone going there, Severe moving to join the afternoon slot, or the producer being promoted. Hoping for Boone though.
I think Nick Handley knows more sports then any host in this town. He is the most overall knowledgeable host in Omaha and does a great job. I was glad to see him stay around but hope he has a lot of guest co-hosts.
Nick Bahe on the other hand knew one sport and a little football. I think him getting a job at Creighton or something basketball specific would be best for everyone. Hopefully the new host takes off a bunch like Bahe did so we can get more Vrzal.

No surprise but Mike'l Severe is leaving the OWH and the Bottom Line show is going away. Too bad, another great show is gone.
Maybe back to 1620 with the midday show?

That's the rumor. Some are saying there will be an announcement as early as 7AM tomorrow (that seems a bit soon to me).
I think ending a sports show in this market two weeks before the start of Nebraska football season is curious at best. From a station perspective, I think you'd shut it down in December (after football season) or February (after recruiting). That leads me to think the decision was Severe's , and almost certainly because he had an offer from 1620 to return.

If he ends up on 1620 I bet it was the OWH ending it. I cannot imagine he didn't have a non compete agreement in place with the OWH that would keep him from moving locally without a waiting period if he left on his terms.

I will definitely miss Sharp on the radio on the way to work but they made the right call on him being solo. He's the best at 1620, and will be an upgrade for the midday (not that Nick Bahe was bad, Gary is just that good).
It's also good to see we now get an extra hour of local programming.

Mike’l Severe just announced next week will be his last on his show on 1620 with Damon Benning.
Greg
Thank goodness. I will not miss him and his adding his two cents on EVERY topic. I know he's a radio host and is supposed to talk, but he's not supposed to talk over guests. Compared to Severe, Benning is tolerable.

My fear is they will give the cohost gig to Ravi Lulla....

Apparently Thursday is the last Garry Sharp Show. Is he going back to the morning show?
Seems that way. Under shows on their website it now shows Sharp and Benning for the morning show. It still shows Gary Sharp show for the mid day show but maybe that will change for next week.

If that is the case I wonder if they will stay local for the midday or if they will syndicate.
It seems like it is staying local. Josh Odson who was recently at KFAB with Chris Baker, had come over to produce Gary’s show when his producer George left. Josh Odson tweeted out that their are more lineup announcements coming in the next few days.
KFAB missed on that. After Baker got fired, they should have let Odson have the show with Bird. Funny and current interest is better than yet another political talk show.

I absolutely agree but KFAB diehards were so upset that Baker got tossed they were non stop complaining about Bird and Odson.

Guess I should have wined to KFAB loud enough to balance the scales a little. My comment must have fallen on deaf ears.
The Connor Happer show has replaced the Gary Sharp Show from 10-2 weekdays on 1620. He comes from Lincoln. I will admit I am not familiar with him.
Here's what's on the website:
Connor Happer joins 1620 The Zone after a stint doing sports talk, play by play, and other duties in Lincoln. During his time there, Connor became a familiar voice around Husker Football covering the team daily since 2015. (He understands that nothing good has happened since 2015.)
A native of Omaha, he grew up going to CWS and O Royals games at Rosenblatt and attending Creighton Basketball games. Connor is an Omaha Central High grad, and attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (after a very brief, uneventful stab at playing junior college baseball).
There will certainly be sports talk….but there will certainly be other things as well.
I'm excited to be starting a new job with the City of Papillion - Municipal Government as Video & Digital Specialist. I'll be following in the footsteps of Torri Pantaleon who is retiring after more than 20 years covering the city for Cox and Papio Vision. I'm really looking forward to the new challenge.
I'm also excited to continue hosting Nebraska Public Media's Big Red Wrap-up.

DIdn't find a specific Lincoln Journal thread so thought this would fit here as well as anywhere.
Looks like today is the last day for Steve Sipple at the LJS. He apparently has entered the transfer portal. I have not heard where he is headed and have not searched for much on this yet.
