I wish that Old Chicago would build a Rock Bottom Brewery, not another Old Chicago. Even though Old Chicago and its sister resterauant are VERY SIMMALAR, Rock Bottom has some great micro brews.

This is great news!! The article also jogged my memory of the other tenants that were annouced awhile back

Those were Hy-Vee, Best Buy, Bed Bath & Beyond, Pier 1 Imports, the Buckle, American Eagle Outfitters, Kirkland's Home, T.J. Maxx, Petsmart, Chipotle, Red Robin Gourmet Burgers and First National Bank of Omaha.

I'm sure the people of Sarpy County are happy to see all of these stores coming closer to home (and Bellevue seeing them come BACK closer to home).

As I mentioned some time ago, the bigger news here isn't so much a JC Penny, Best Buy, etc, etc coming to Sarpy County even. It's the fact that Omaha is becoming large enough... you're seeing fairly significant new, separately discernable trade areas within the metro (including north central Omaha).

I wouldn't count on a BR there. At least not for the next couple of years.

Of course I'm happy for Sarpy County, and for the metro as a whole that they are FINALLY seeing this economic development. It's just not exciting beyond what it may or may not "symbolize" for the metro.

EXACTLY! Nice post! Coupled with the Twin Creek area, this makes the 370 corridor one of the most attractive suburban areas in the Omaha metro. Give me a light rail to DTO and I'll be set :-)

I agree that Old Chicago needs to get a Rock Bottom Brewery (and a District Chophouse) in the metro somewhere, but not there. I think an OC would work best at that location.

The hierarchy is (from lowest to highest) Old Chicago, Rock Bottom, Chophouse. As far as I know (if the trend has continued since I worked at OC a few years ago) the Nebraska OCs are doing quite well. I would think we're about due for one of their more upscale restaurants.

How about adding the metro's first Granite City at SLTC? Or maybe a Joe's Crabshack? How about an On The Border? Oooh, or an Apple Store?

I love the SLTC idea, and I love that the southern edge of the metro is getting some badly needed retail and restaurants, but I agree with others that SLTC needs some sort of drawing factor.

All of the places that I've mentioned here are very doable for the SLTC demographic (well, maybe a stretch for the Apple Store).

You can come to Des Moines for all of them, plus Rock Bottom!

I'm actually kinda dissapointed in JCPenney. I was hoping more for a Von Maur or Younkers down there. It seems that that would be a great spot for one, since the Younkers closed at Crossroads... Also, with the rapidly growing demographic and its location, it would make sense. I really doubt that these "medium-high" retailers would go out there (like Apple or BR)...it's not shaping up to be like Village Pointe. It's much more big box...maybe Omaha's first Sears Grand?

I don't think too many on this forum were under the illusions that this was going to be a Village Pointe (all you had to do was look at the initial site plan). Of COURSE an area is going to have a need for the Best Buys, Old Navys, etc... before the 'medium high' retailers. With the exception of Walmart, Target and the like... Sarpy County has had almost no national retail presence whatsoever. You've got to start somewhere. Plus, Bellevue, Papillion, La Vista don't have quite the wealth demographic of west Omaha. These are predominantly new, young families. Given it's 20% growth however... it won't be too long before the next level of retail/restaurant offerings comes to Sarpy County as well.

I'd assume it would be sooner than later. If Papillion Gardens were built, they would have had some department stores. You'd think there would be a market there. The growth in this area is incredible.

I'm also surprised that Younkers has not announced a move to Shadow Lake after closing at Crossroads. I had assumed it would happen, and there is still room for them. They would fit in well with the demographic.

As for jhuston's comment about it being younger families... Don't forget about areas like the homes in Fontenelle Forrest, Tregaron, Lakewood, or even the Eagle Areas, Edgewater Estates, Val Verde, and Savanah Shores. I'm not trying to start a comparison, because I understand what your point was jhuston. But I do want to mention that the southern section of our metro can more than justify this mall and the middle to lower-upper tier stores that go with it.

I would not mind either Granite City or Rock Bottom, However I did like Rock Bottom's Seasonal Beers way better than the beer I had at Granite City.

That's a really small JcPenney's. I think the one at Westroads is 200,000 sq feet and the one at Oak View is 130,000. Is this one going to be about the size of the one at Mall of the Bluffs? I think people will be disappointed in this store. That area could support a much larger Pennys.

I think Younkers is in a holding pattern on new stores for a while because they along with several other chains in their company have been sold and the deal will not close until deep next year.
