Looks like we have our first shot at Winter Weather this week. National Weather Service says there is a chance of snow Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

Re: 2019-2020 Winter Weather Thread
Seems a little early. Really hoping for a milder winter this year. Another severe winter would be a drag. But wouldn’t be surprised if Omaha strings together a couple of bad winters. We had a long stretch of mild winters before last year.

Two years ago we were giving kids candy during a small flurry on Halloween. I expect a repeat performance this year.

Well that was fun this morning. The main roads weren't so bad, but it took me 45 mintues to get my wife to UNO from Benson.

The first little 2 inch snow is going to hit tomorrow and I have it on good authority that the the old ladies are all going to make a run on the grocery stores today so as they don't get stranded for days without food and starve

And in the end, barely a dusting of snow in my area of town (120th-132nd and West Center)..
This guy (along with the local on air meteorologists) were off. Most were certain of the 2-3 inch total snow for Omaha.. and this video guy was waaay off- at least for the Omaha area.. And more often than not, as it relates to his accuracy as a weather forecaster, this is usually the case for him, lol...

Yeah, it really wasn't bad at all. It did pick up a surprising amount after 11pm at least on the north northwest part of town. I want to say we got about 1.5 to 2" here, but it was so wet and the ground was warm so it disappeared like that.

Re: 2019-2020 Winter Weather Thread
Sounds like there was a pretty sharp cutoff the farther north/west you are. Sounded like Fremont got it worse, and I'd assume Blair, along with each city farther north and west, they were correct about.

Winds expected to ease today as winter storm moves out; Interstate 80 reopens across Nebraska
A winter storm that brought winds gusting over 65 mph to western Nebraska was moving out of the state and toward the Great Lakes on Sunday.

We have already crushed the previous record for rainfall ( .6") for the date of 12/28. Looking at approximately 1.84" by the time the day is over.

Finally gonna feel like winter around here this weekend and next week. I know I'm in the minority, but this predominantly above average and sunny weather for the last month or more has been B O R I N G.
Hopefully mother nature won't make up for lost time with a big slap to the face like she did last year.

Nothing boring about it as far as I am concerned. Loving the lack of cold and snow! Although I was looking for some real winter just so we could all learn how Furious_Rose and her Fiat 500 made out. Re: 2019-2020 Winter Weather Thread
I don't care how good it feels, its not usually this warm this late and I like snow. Last year was the same way. Eventually winter caught up with us, but we got blasted and got practically the whole November-March snowfall in Late January and February. Plus winter weather and cool conditions held on well into April.U R my Helix wrote: Wed Jan 08, 2020 7:33 pm Nothing boring about it as far as I am concerned. Loving the lack of cold and snow! Not saying that same thing will happen, but the later it holds off, the more likely it seems. Its gotta snow some time. I'm just used to KNOWING its winter by the time December rolls around. If you blind dropped somebody out of the sky here today or tomorrow, they'd guess it was early November. Just been weird.
And I am curious as to how that went. The little snow and ice events we have had would been a small test run.

Re: 2019-2020 Winter Weather Thread
I think the mild start to winter has felt great and I wish it’d continue..
But, I know it’s January and at some point, winter cold and frozen precipitation will rear its ugly head. Fortunately for most of the Omaha area, the snowfall totals should stay pretty light.. South of here is where the real heavy snowfall amounts are expected to occur...

So much for the snow threat this go around. In area of the metro where I reside (132nd and West Center area), barely one inch fell.. and I’m being kind with that estimate...

Over here near 72nd & Dodge, I'd say we weren't far off the 2" mark. Of course, whatever happened at Eppley will be what is reported for Omaha. Millard and Bellevue will also report what they got.

Seems like most of Omaha got 1-2 inches. Looks like central and eastern Iowa got the brunt of the storm. I won’t need to use my snowblower yet.

So far this storm has not amounted to anything more then a 2 inch snow in Millard. Nothing more then a lame excuse for all the bums not to do any work and sleep all day.

Re: 2019-2020 Winter Weather Thread
I am glad that school was cancelled so there wasn't as much traffic this morning, but the roads honestly weren't that bad. I left Bellevue at 7:15 this morning and made it to Aksarben Village in 20-25 minutes. That is about the same time it takes with good weather and all the traffic normally. We probably only got 2-3 inches.
Not to sound like I am getting old, but I don't know if I ever remember having school cancelled with only 2-3 in, maybe if the projection was higher. I understand that the timing was bad since it was morning rush hour, but I still the weathermen sensationalize everything just to get viewership and clicks online.

We got about 3 inches here in the 114th and W. Center rd area. Just a run of the mill winter storm nothing spectacular. Gave the weather people something to talk about all week.

Re: 2019-2020 Winter Weather Thread
It was a pretty wet snow, though. Along with the rain, freezing rain, and freezing overnight made it slicker than it would have been. Couple that with the super cold temperatures following, and the whole event (Thursday through Monday) has been pretty impactful.
