Former Dick's at Oakview will become a gym

I heard that Genesis will convert the old Dick's at Oakview into a new gym and close the 144th and F location. May 2020.
They need to build a swimming pool and other gym related amenities.

The ones at 78th and Cass and Westroads are pretty close, too. So I guess I wouldn't be surprised for them to open another one so close to 144th & F.

Those gyms are always jam-packed anyway, which is why I stopped going. Given the traffic these gyms see, I bet the new location in the same general area will be welcome.

That 24 Hour Fitness now Genesis has been at the 144th and F location since 2001. I’ve been a member of that Gym since the beginning..

Yeah a gym taking the spot at a mall is great news, just look at Mall of the Bluffs and Southroads.

It’s a nice “get” for the mousetrap. It’ll drive busy traffic currently at the 144th and F location, to this new, state of the art center once it opens. I’ve been a member of this particular gym since 2001..Believe me, it is a busy location and moving people back into Oakview is a good thing for the entire shopping district..As opposed to the parcel sitting empty, doing nothing..

You’re entitled to your opinion, I disagree. Oakview is not dying and Genesis opening there is a positive not a negative..Plus, it’s not in the actual Mall, it’s in a parcel surrounding the mousetrap. It’ll drive traffic to the area. Again, a positive...

Oak view has been rather busy lately. I think the mall can handle it’s own and maybe slowly and surely the mall will and surrounding parcels will get the right mix of users to continue driving more traffic to the area. I would still love to see something more visionary though, such as residential on some parking lots or repurposing of the anchors.

Indeed. Living close to the Oakview Mousetrap area, I've seen how busy and lively the area has been over the last several weeks. Obviously, some of this has to do with the holidays, but even this weekend, the area has been brisk with traffic. Oakview has certainly taken some hits over the past 10-15 years. But as I’ve stated before, it’s not a dying mall and has seen a string of nice wins over the past 6 or so months. I’m quite confident it’ll have a positive future as we move through the next several years..

We’ll see...

To be fair, Dick’s wasn’t part of the mall. It’s in a separate strip retail center that, granted, currently relies on the mall for its survival. But it is not in the mall.
