I watered the yard this morning. Should start raining soon.

At least the Derecho provided some excitement last week, although unfortunately it was very damaging and disruptive for a lot of people for 1000 miles.

The thunderstorm that moved through the area after 5pm this afternoon dumped much needed rain in my neck of the woods in west Omaha...

I did my part. Watered the lawn a lot AND washed my car.

Hopefully some of the moisture from Hurricane Laura will spin up here.

The dewpoint is predicted to dip below 50 for the first time since the last time it was below 50 this Saturday morning. Don't quote me but the last time we had dewpoints in the 40's had to have been early May at the latest. Some more than welcome relief. Fall is thankfully on our doorstep.

Well y'all, I really think that was our last taste of summer weather. Temperatures of 98 and above, and dew points above 72 at times made for our most miserable stretch of the summer, but the way the dew points look to fall into the 50's and barely even exit them for the foreseeable forecast, temperatures barely cracking 80, ol' man Summer is running out of time. This next week is going to be incredible!

What a welcome relief! Now if we could just get some damn rain. Cottonwood and Hackberry trees are already starting to lose their leaves. I’m worried about rising fire hazard risk if this drought continues much longer.

I'm reluctant to mention it, but we have been solidly forecast to get about .25" of rain early Monday morning, and it is otherwise supposed to be a relative cloudy stretch through Wednesday. Fingers crossed.

Yeah, my water bill is definitely hitting record highs this summer. And thats just for the garden...no sprinkler system for me.

Okay... So maybe this will be our last taste of Summer. Saturday and Sunday supposed to get up to 95+, but then Tuesday and Wednesday shouldn't crack 70, with lows potentially dipping below 50. I CANNOT wait.

I love em when they swing down. I will love to feel a 40 degree drop in 36 hour's time. Monday will still be normal, but once it gets down to Tuesday's low, it doesn't really come up. Then will get into the 40s Wednesday morning. Refreshing.

It Should be exciting to watch such a large drop happen over such a short time. Usually some serious storms would accompany this kid of event, but I don’t think there’s much moisture in the atmosphere around here to work with, unless it starts getting humid real soon.

Yeah, usually. The chances for rain a pretty high on Tuesday, though. Tuesday looks like it may be the perfect day to fire up the greenhouse woodstove and make a batch of chili, listening to the rain on the roof and the wind blowing, but staying perfectly cozy. Yeah, I think I like that idea a lot. Shoot, I may just live out of my greenhouse Monday night-Wednesday morning

They are currently forecasting over 2" of rain right now, and the forecast has gotten cooler for Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Lows of about 44 on Tuesday Night and Wednesday Night.

Current forecast cuts back the rain to maybe 1". Forecast high tomorrow is 54, record low high for the day is 58. Lincoln could have a record low high beat by 10 degrees.

As of around 4pm today, the NWS Omaha Twitter feed was still saying 2-3” through Wednesday for Omaha. I hope they’re right. That would be great!

And to think we would still be behind 9-10" if that were to happen.

On the plus side 8"+ rain events are possible. Last one was August of 2018, then 1999, but those are the only two I know of.

Got this from the World Herald article:

Omaha recorded 46 days from June to August when the temperature crested 90 degrees. That’s 18 more than average. That trend continued into the start of September. The high on Sunday reached 96 degrees, making it the third of the month’s first six days with highs in the 90s.

Casper, WY was in the 80s yesterday and overnight had tree branches breaking off from the weight of snow.

Here is a photo from a friend of mine --- Top - 6:30 pm yesterday - Bottom -- 9:00 am this morning. And it was still snowing

All I can say is- Mother Nature is making up for 3 months of pent up lost moisture and has been dumping rain in my neck of the woods all day..

I hope it’s enough to bring most of my yard back to green-age...

Not bad, but still nowhere near our deficit.

That said, the summer and basically the growing season is over, so at this point we just need a normal fall so we can get back on track for next year.

Rainfall is officially reported at 1.18" so far in the event, with a small amount more left for tomorrow. Of course, the readings at Eppley don't paint the whole picture for the entirety of the metro. I had some very heavy rainfall a number of times since Tuesday AM, wouldn't be surprised at all if I personally got more than what was reported at the airport. Everyone's rain gauge is different, and positioning is often not ideal. I don't rely on only my rain gauge even though it is in the most open area on my property... There are many tall trees in my immediate vicinity and the wind regularly blows additional water from their leaves into my rain gauge, even though it is not falling from the clouds. I'm definitely game for some more, though.

I have had about 1.95" in Bellevue as of yesterday afternoon.

Just checked and we have another .7" since yesterday afternoon. 3 day total of 2.65". That is probably more than the last 2 months combined.

The Metro has received a little less according to the NWS gauges.

Offutt (SE Omaha) = 0.42, 1.32, 0.50, Total = 2.24"
Millard Airport (SW Omaha) = 0.02, 1.12, 0.43, Total = 1.57"
Eppley (NE Omaha) = 0.06, 1.02, 0.47, Total = 1.55"
