Fun facts:
Approximately 26,000 truckloads of dirt will be required to bring Heartland Park up to grade , on average 200 trucks loads are delivered per work day.

Has to be kinda close doesn't it? I would assume they want each truck making multiple trips a day so I'd guess within a half hour drive.

Pinkgrading has the contract and I can only guess they are getting the fill dirt from local rock quarries, like those near Crescent,IA.
https://pinkgrading.com/services/rock-quarries/.

I know that Hawkins has a "dirt farm" located behind Ponca storage where they get and take dirt. I don't know if Pink Grading has something similar.

No, the facts are these ...

nothing from 10th St to 14th since early in June. Nada! Nichts! Nothing! No electric work. Hines isn’t doing squat! Oh, they might have a work trailer parked there, but not so much as a Big Wheel has been parked during the day.
Landscapers aren’t even cutting down the noxious weeds. The Farnam St side still has 20 tree stumps, weeds growing through the brick. No sense of urgency.

Heartland Park area west to 10th St ... still putting dirt in Boss’s yard. Still haven’t bothered to demolish all the concrete. Though, last week the finished demo on the pond. What’s the rush? , it’s only been 15 months. I seriously doubt anything more than installation of storm drainage is being installed as most of the land is still a rubble field.

Lewis and Clark ... irrigation has been turned off for awhile. They removed the faux umbrellas from the Martin Luther King pedestrian bridge. It’s been 3 days, so they might have brought some barricades in. But I did walk through it on Wednesday.
You walked by the GLM construction area and came up with all of this?..

Regarding your “facts”-

Where is the confirmation that Hines “isn’t doing squat”.. You talked to them lately?.. Have you talked with the landscapers and they have definitively communicated to you “no sense of urgency” and that they’re doing nothing. Your proof? Perhaps a source you can site to confirm?..

You continue to make numerous statements insinuating they’re “facts” regarding- what you believe to be- the lack of construction progress with this project..but (again) where is the confirmation? Where are the source(s) of intel you’ve received to back them up?.. Please enlighten us..

Because until you do, your statements are just peanut gallery walk-by commentary which holds little, if any, factual truth...

how about you come down every day and take a look for yourself? Maybe you can show me the spot where someone stuck a spade shovel in and turned some dirt each day. Snap some photos and show me the mythical electricians. And the mythical trees being planted daily. Show me the plasticine porters with their looking glass ties.

You can even show me the spot where they will give unicorn rides.

A nice snarky response. But so hollow on substance..

You were stating “facts” in your last post-

I asked for confirmation (a collaborating source) to back up your “fact” that “Hines isn’t doing squat”- I get crickets.. I asked for a source of general intel that backs up your “fact” that landscapers have “no sense of urgency” (I’ll even take a shaky one at this point)- I get more crickets..

I don’t need to walk by the construction site every day to be satisfied that at present, construction for all 3 phases of the Riverfront Plan will be completed by their projected timetables. Nice try at deflection though..

The reality is, you simply walk by the construction area..work yourself into a prodigious lather because construction/landscaping (whatever) isn’t being done as quickly as you’d like..then come here (with an admitted lack of construction, landscaping and electrical knowledge) and post that nothing is being done and call it “fact”.. Sidewalk Supervisor?..

Thank you for “wash, rinse, repeat” report #123,952. Peanut gallery walk-by commentary...

I'm very optimistic about this project and look forward to it's completion.
It been a good long run but obviously it's time to move on from this forum as it goes down the path that so many do.

I think they update the timeline graphics on the website. It looks like landscaping the amenity construction for GLM will start Q3 of this year.

Yes, they updated this timeline, I believe, a couple months back in May.. Phase 1 of the project has the GLM portion completed by this time (July) of 2022. So 2 years from now..

I’m looking forward to this and am also confident they are on schedule..And even if it’s subject to change by a month or even a few months, there is no need to lose any sleep over it. This project, in its entirety, will be completed and will be the envy of Omaha’s peer cities nationwide...

Lol. Homer

I’ll send you pictures. I was going to get some last week, but when I was walking by the construction site I got to talking to Rick Lanoha. He invited me to a round of golf to discuss my ideas. So, I got distracted.

By the way, I never said I don’t know about construction, landscaping, or electric. I said I was not a construction engineer.

Here is a preview . Notice the natural vegetation.

The Homers here will be glad to know progress is made. They mowed some weeds!

And they are doing their Cool Hand Luke impressions again, moving some dirt.

Electric ... Miller Electric placed an equipment shed on the property last week.

Progress!

From today’s W-H-

“Lewis & Clark Landing offers some picturesque views of the Missouri River, but the downtown Omaha park isn’t necessarily the kind of place the city would include on a postcard.

That’s all set to change soon. The landing is scheduled to close to the public Sept. 21, and when it reopens in 2023, it should be a riverfront destination.

The upcoming closure marks a major milestone in the $300 million project to renovate the Gene Leahy Mall, Heartland of America Park and Lewis & Clark Landing. By the end of the month, all three parks will be closed and under construction.

Lewis & Clark Landing’s overhaul calls for four sand volleyball courts with nearby green space and shade structures, a scenic boardwalk, an urban beach that will include fire pits and a “destination playground” for kids to expend some energy.“..

Indeed a game changing addition to our Riverfront Development plan..

I am kind of bummed that the skate park that was originally part of L&C's plan is no longer there. They could always add one later, but I think it would be a great amenity to the Parks. I am hoping that the sports courts are still in the works even though it is not mentioned in this recent article. Outdoor covered basketball courts would have been great, but any would do at this point.

From the W-H OpEd piece today-

“At the start of this century, Omaha took an important step: It turned its attention toward the riverfront, aiming to revitalize the former industrial area into a major community asset. The creation of Lewis & Clark Landing, nestled against the Missouri River, finally provided a significant public area where Omahans could see the river up close.

But the area unfortunately failed to live up to expectations. The restaurant offered a fine view of the flowing waters, but it eventually closed. Other than walking or sitting along the concrete expanse, there really wasn’t much to do other than when an occasional festival was held.

Now change is on its way to Lewis & Clark Landing. The ambitious plans offer promise to finally achieve the area’s potential as a major civic amenity. Next week, the landing is scheduled to close. When it reopens in 2023, the area will be transformed in remarkable fashion.“..

The last paragraph expresses my excitement about this three park project; it is only the beginning of another cycle of downtown development, hopefully one that is unprecedented in scope and impact.

That OWH editorial ... it was a bundle of blather and arse kissing. What CONCRETE suggestions did they praise? Or offer?

OWH praised a museum “as good as”. What lack of vision! Like saying your wife is as good as another.

A science Museum is a great idea. I’m for it. But why not shoot for something higher? The premier Science Museum!

Agreed..

I’ve stated numerous times on the forum, that once we get to this time 4 years from now, I believe we’ll really see the fruit frown this plans vision.. Additional developments will likely spring up as a by product..

People can, Short-sightedly, complain about how the Riverfront area looks now in 2020.. Let’s see if they’re still around in 2024 to give credit where credit is due...

They are pushing for a skatepark on the Riverfront. One of the examples they give of a quality skatepark, is one being built in Des Moines, lauridsen skatepark, discussed in this article: https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.desmoi ... 3029971001

It will be the nation's biggest by square footage. A skatepark would be a great addition to the Riverfront project. I think the council is going about their advocacy the wrong way; they don't need to convince stakeholders of the Riverfront project that skateparks are good, they just have to show stakeholders that Des Moines is builder the biggest one in the US and tell them Omaha needs to build a bigger an better one! Haha. Seriously though, according to the article Lauridsen costs all of $6.3 million. It seems like the Riverfront project financiers could foot that or more pretty easily.

I'm also disappointed by the lack of courts and skate park. Seems like they are concerned about the youth scaring families away

I can't comment on the reason for axing it, and hope that is not the reason, but there are empty (grass) areas to get those amenities incorporated in the future. As I commented previously, there is a group trying to get a skate park at the Riverfront. It does not seem to cost much, relatively, to build a quality skate park, so maybe there is still hope for that. I do think that with the right administration in place at the City, those things can be added if there is a demand for it.

In one of the pics it shows a "skate ribbon", whatever that is.

Different kind of skating; roller blade, skates, which will double as an ice skate ribbon in the winter.

It looks like the Council Bluffs side is gearing up to go. Check out the last City Council meeting. The related resolution is 21-44. The MOU under consideration is between the City and SINC. The signor of SINC is Pete Tulipana, who is/was affiliated with Iowa West Foundation. The plans contemplated include elevated boardwalks, one north of Big Bob and one south, which includes a pier; surface trails to the north of Big Bob; climbing wall; observation towers; dog park. Starts on page 156.

Four additional rendering of the playground have been added under "Photo Gallery" for Lewis & Clark landing. Very impressive.

Which Future Development lot are you referring to? The one of the west end of the GLM, to the east of the library?

East of the library
Originally in the renderings there was a residential high rise there but it has since been removed. A director at Meca told me that the hope is still to have a residential high rise there in the future but the city wants to see how the ConAgra residential components do and how pedestrian and traffic flow is before determining the feasibility of a residential high rise here.

What they should do is build a new library on the lot to the East of the current library to bookend the park. Then they can redevelop the current library site with a new residential highrise.
