Some cheese with your Wine?

I thought this was a pretty interesting new retail development for Rockbrook Village. Corkscrew Wine and Cheese. It is a wine tasting place serving cheese apitizers. Note that it states that if the store is successful, the owner intends to open a winery that uses Nebraska grown grapes.

My friend is one of the developers for this project. They are planning on adding the winery, for sure, in a couple of years that way they have all their growers lined up and their vineyards will be fully mature by then because it takes two to three years before the vines produce grapes. He said that they will start retailing 300+ wines to start with and have a big selection of unique gift baskets, too. Also besides the kiosks they will be the only place in town that will have certain wines hooked up to a CO2 system that will serve wine by the glass and still give it the quality of a newly opened bottle. It sounds like its going to be a unique place in this city for retail wine and wine bar.

I think of a place where you can go and taste test wine and cheese, and I get so excited--thats so me and one of the types of thing I love to do. I love the direction the Omaha is going in.

My parents visited a winery somewhere near lincoln and loved it. Bought a case of a few different wines which we went through over christmastime. They were all quite excellent, actually.

I have had wine from a couple of different Nebraska wineries....and they were all quite good. The best being lovers leap winery out of Crawford.

Had the opportunity to stop in this weekend. Neat place. Nice wine bar with couches and a good selection of cheese and bread. (And best of all - no smoking. I wish La Buvette would get it together on that.)

Should do well in its location, as it is very visible from 680. I'm still not sure I get the necessity to carry the JAV, but oh well... it's not my mortgage.

'A new wine and specialty cheese store will hold a grand opening celebration this weekend at Rockbrook Village, near 108th Street and West Center Road.

Corkscrew Wine and Cheese, 10924 Prairie Brook Road, offers about 50 specialty cheeses and more than 300 wines by the bottle.

The 2,500-square-foot store features a wine-tasting bar and information kiosks that will allow customers to scan bottles of wine to get their descriptions, ratings and food pairings.

Grand opening events are from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday and from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday . Free wine and cheese tastings are scheduled both days.'..

I had a bottle of their inhouse wine a few weeks ago. It was a semi-sweet wine, and it was really really good. I usually don't like sweet wines but this one was really top notch!

IMHO the owners are friendly, down to earth, and very knowledgable about wines. It's nice to be able to go into a specialty store like this and not be intimidated.....whether the store sells high-end sports equipment, indie records, or stylish wines.

I will have to visit this place soon. I have been educated in Nebraska wines by some local vineyard owners recently. We do have some class wines here in Eastern NE!

JAV is the Godfather of NE grapes. We have much better wines though.
I admit I am prejudice. I have friends in the industry.
This year will be a great crop though - despite the asian beatles!!!

The JAV wine for Corkscrew is named "Torrent".

What are some other good Nebraska wines? I tend to like Cab Savs and Syrahs.

Beaujolais Nouveau Party
November 16th at 6pm
