One more example of the (not so slow) death of print media. The KC Star newspaper, which opened its gleaming iconic print building in downtown KC in 2006, and which sold the building in 2019 in what was to be a 15 year lease-back arrangement, has backed out of that arrangement, and by spring 2021 will shift all of their print operations to the plant operated by the Des Moines Register. Apparently the print copies will then be trucked to KC. Over 100 employees will lose their jobs.

KC Star is McClatchy, DM Register is Gannett. Weird, but not out of the realm of possibility.

It’s amazing how fast newspapers have died out. Even as recently as ten years ago they still carried quite a bit of clout. I’ve seen the KC Star printing building it’s pretty impressive. Unbelievable it’s no longer worth keeping.

They have gone the way of CDs and pagers. What was not that long ago a necessity to own is now a big white elephant. Warren Buffett saw this coming before most of the rest of us.

Naw, Warren should have let it die with Kiewit/Andersen. He must have needed a tax loss, since I don't think his altruism extends to propping up dying industries.nativeomahan wrote: Wed Nov 18, 2020 12:22 am They have gone the way of CDs and pagers.
