Development in and around Springfield:
(Mods, I couldn't find a similar thread...)
On NE-50 just south of Platteview: Another fireworks warehouse (next to a daycare--what could go wrong?) next to what is purported to be an Ace Hardware. Filling in the area betw. the strip mall and the Dollar General.
Corner of NE-50 and Main St.: The Sinclair closed, replaced by the second used car lot in town.
Development of Springfield Pines continues apace, streets in, telco too, street signs installed. About 5-10 houses already framed or further along than that.
Coffeeshop in the strip mall at the corner of Platteview and Second St., Valentino's to follow, which should fill out the available space.

Great thread to start. Thanks for adding.

Re: Development in and around Springfield:
Springfield has its first traffic signal, NE-50 @ Platteview and it's about time. Since NE-31 started reconstruction Platteview in both directions has been twenty cars deep at rush hours. SB NE-50 turning left onto EB Platteview will have a protected left-turn phase.
Also, a new pad is being laid at the north end of the strip mall on the SE corner of 50 and Platteview, north of the Runza. No clues as to what it'll be.

True with what is linked but per radio news coverage I heard it is Temporary until the permanent lights are installed.HR Paperstacks wrote: Thu Aug 01, 2019 10:58 pmIt's only supposed to be temporary.damonhynes wrote: Thu Aug 01, 2019 9:37 pm Springfield has its first traffic signal, NE-50 @ Platteview and it's about time. Yep, they have temporary jack-up (construction zone) lights now, but the guyed overhead signals are already strung up and it shouldn't be long before they're working.nebugeater wrote: Fri Aug 02, 2019 6:01 amTrue with what is linked but per radio news coverage I heard it is Temporary until the permanent lights are installed.HR Paperstacks wrote: Thu Aug 01, 2019 10:58 pmIt's only supposed to be temporary.damonhynes wrote: Thu Aug 01, 2019 9:37 pm Springfield has its first traffic signal, NE-50 @ Platteview and it's about time. According to my daughter, who knows everything, that pad is going to be a Pinnacle Bank branch. Springfield's second bank.damonhynes wrote: Thu Aug 01, 2019 9:37 pm

Yes - Pinnacle Bank's sign is up on the construction fence. With the pace of construction it won't be long before it is open.damonhynes wrote: Mon Aug 12, 2019 8:33 amAccording to my daughter, who knows everything, that pad is going to be a Pinnacle Bank branch. Re: Development in and around Springfield:
On the SW corner of NE-50 and Platteview Rd., earth is being moved for that's rumored to be a mixed-use development...apartments and small retail, I'd wager. Town could use a Culver's...
North of town, I believe that every house/farm on the west side of NE-50 has been sold for development. There's still one farmstead on the east side that's hanging tough.
Re: Springfield Pines. The pace of development had slowed notably. I think the limit of the $300-450K McMansion market has been reached. I'm ambivalent--the value of my 1974 split-level 3bd/1ba has gone up a ton in the past two years.
East of town, Platteview Rd. in front of the high school has been reprofiled and a third/turn lane has been added. Much needed, blind crest and all.

Unfortunately, people still drive like maniacs on Platteview Rd. Had someone pass me right after the highschool on a double yellow in the 45 zone, going at least 15 over.

Driving down that way, its almost a single contiguous development from Sapp Bros to Platteview Rd. Development in this area has really picked up.damonhynes wrote: Mon Dec 07, 2020 3:10 pm On the SW corner of NE-50 and Platteview Rd., earth is being moved for that's rumored to be a mixed-use development...apartments and small retail, I'd wager. I'd like near Houston, but not in Houston. I'd insist on city water and sewer--no wells or septic tanks. Large city or small doesn't matter, as long as I can open my front door and smell ocean.Louie wrote: Tue Dec 08, 2020 9:45 amWanting to stay in the small town?damonhynes wrote: Tue Dec 08, 2020 9:15 amWhich is why I'm aiming to move :-)Louie wrote: Tue Dec 08, 2020 7:12 am

Re: Development in and around Springfield:
The Springfield State Bank, long a fixture on East Main Street, is rumored to have been sold. Wahoo State Bank.
A Pinnacle Bank branch opened a couple years ago and I think the owners saw the writing on the wall.
EDIT: Not Wahoo, rather Horizon Bank of Waverly.

I see the Midland Garage Door Mfg Co that used to be off of 136th & Giles in Millard/Chalco has relocated to the new industrial area at the southwest corner of 144th & Platteview in Springfield.

Re: Development in and around Springfield:
I stopped at B&D Pitstop in Springfield (141st & Platteview Rd) this last Saturday. They have a cooler with fresh pork products from Bartling Family Pork in Unadilla, Nebraska., as well as some take-n-bake Valentino's pizzas (probably from the Valentino's next door). Anyway, I thought it was cool of a gas station/convenience store to be supporting a local pork producer like that.
That building also has Valentino's Pizza Express and Black Sheep Coffeehouse.
