I poked my head in the windows the other day and they look quite a long way from opening. I would say at least a month off.

I hadn't seen this till recently. Craig Ferguson talking about his experience at the "haunted" Hotel Deco. Pretty funny starts about 3 mins in.

The AAA travel club has rated the Redick's replacement, the year-old Hotel Deco XV, as a four-diamond hotel. That's an honor only 3 to 4 percent of hotels earn nationally.

And don't think Hotel Deco is satisfied with four. Staffers barely celebrated the four-diamond achievement before planning for five-diamond status. That's extremely rare; the closest cities to Omaha with five-diamond hotels? Chicago, Denver and St. Louis.

There was a small barber shop in this building facing Harney street. Does anyone know if that space had been developed into something? Does the hotel have any plans for the space?

A bit of a thread revival, but I walk by this building daily, and there is a new, small cigar/spirits shop called Looking Glass in this bay. Haven't made it in yet, but looks pretty cool. It's these small, "miniscule" developments, that you might walk by a few times before noticing, that really add to the character of a city.

That's basically a part of the "Wicket Rabbit." Inside there is a liquor/cigar store and you have to ask for hidden door to Wicked Rabbit.

There was a steakhouse in this building and associated with the hotel called Monarch Prime - my wife and I really enjoyed it a few times and then felt it went somewhat downhill, at least for the price. It's been closed for Covid since the first half of 2020, and I get the impression it is permanently closed now. Anybody know what all this renovation impacts?

This renovation include every room, elevators, washrooms...
They made it sound like the restraurant would be returning when safe to open.

I hope it does come back when safe - my impression is partly based on the total lack of communication online (eg. the Facebook has not been updated since March, even to say they are temporarily closed, the actual website is no longer up). Usually that's an indication of a business going under, but I hope that's a misimpression in this case.

According to Downtown Omaha instagram, Hotel Deco and the Monarch restaurant are back open. I've seen a lot of activity there the last few weeks of them getting everything finalized.

This opened as a Raddison hotel sometime in the late 80’s. One of the best Art Deco buildings in the entire region.

Is Monarch, the upscale restaurant inside of Hotel Deco, still open? Their website is defunct and they haven't posted to their Facebook page in almost a year, but they're still on Hotel Deco's website (though, the link to their menu from Hotel Deco's website is broken).

Good for me, I can earn/use my hilton points and use the daily food/drink credit if you have gold and up status. I feel like Hilton always provides good customer service, and upgrades.

I haven't found anywhere if there's a remodel associated with this transition, or just an affiliation with Hilton. Has anyone seen anything? Last time I was in there, the place was a little "tired". Hopefully the Tapestry / Hilton affiliation pushes them to invest some money in the property again...

For a while back in the late 80’s this and the Red Lion were the only decent hotels downtown. Downtown has come along way since then. Hopefully it can regain its former glory.

I thought i saw somewhere that they are not accepting reservations until June. Assumed tha was due to remodels.

Hilton’s Tapestry brand will be much like its Curio (Peregrine), rehabbing older classic buildings with each keeping a unique style. They’ll throw some money at it, since it’s one of their luxury brands. I think the Art Deco theme will stay.

They most likely just bought the Hilton Franchise, Similar to the way Marcus Theaters/Corporation owns the Marriott downtown. Will give them more business as it opens them up to all the Hilton Members.

The hotel actually pays fees to the brand (similar to a franchise agreement) to be marketed on their platform. Much higher visibility when associated with a national chain and not just a standalone. Also gives access to many corporate travelers who's work have a "preferred brand" - ie Hilton, Marriott who couldn't have chosen the property before.

As of about 7 or so years ago, Hilton franchised the last of its corporately owned hotels (about 70 or so), as did Marriott shortly before that. There’s some kind of financial advantage for that move, which is too bad because the Hilton “owned” hotels were (I thought, anyway) just nicer. The franchises still have to keep certain standards, and some brands are more scrutinized (Waldorf/Conrad)than others (Homewood Suites/Doubletree). Failure to do so risks losing their flags.

I see this as good news. Hilton run properties are usually well maintained and customers can use Hilton Honors to get points.
