He said on Twitter they are taking the former Old Chicago location.

Makes sense. And yeah, I was kind of surprised Olive Garden is still opening new locations -- didn't their parent company file bankruptcy recently?

I'm not a huge fan, personally, but people on the Papillion Facebook page seem to be very excited so it'll probably do well.

I am surprised that Olive Garden is opening new locations as well. But either way, I think Shadow Lake is looking up, restaurant-wise after Copps and now Olive Garden. With all the new houses along Capehart from 36th to 84th and many more planned, this could be one of the next booming areas in the metro.

Mas Chingon is opening a second location here, next to Old Navy, per Shadow Lake’s Facebook page. No opening date announced yet. Hopefully Early Bird’s success has shown there’s an appetite for great local restaurants despite the sea of chains in the area.

The sales director also told me they have two large national retailers signed for open bays around the perimeter, but they’re not ready to announce yet. Combined with HyVee opening the liquor store in the old Bed Bath and Beyond, things are looking up for Shadow Lake.

I have said this before, but one other thing in Shadow Lake's favor is all the new housing going up just to the south and southwest. There is a proposed housing development of 900 homes on the SW intersection of 72nd and Capehart.

Looks like tear out has begun. Stopped by a couple of weeks ago and there were vehicles from some demolition company there and Old Chicago's decor was being torn out. Looks like they may have also added a more Olive Garden-esque stone facing to the exterior around the entrance, but perhaps it's always been there. No signage up yet.

Hopefully they can staff it. We hit up OG probably once every couple of months and every time for the last year or so the dining room has been half empty but we're still told there is a 15 minute wait to be seated. When I inquire about it they always say it's because they're short wait staff or kitchen staff.

If they're going to put a chain Italian restaurant in there, then I would have preferred a Carrabba's or Biaggi's. YMMV.

They definitely created too large of a "sea of parking spaces" between the outer and inner shops. So, pedestrians don't really move from one to the other. With the limited parking and visibility of most of the inner shops it's no wonder they struggle for tenants. The outer ring seems to be better off, but it's so sprawled that if you were to wander it you would get done shopping and find yourself quite a hike from where you parked. Perhaps they should have wrapped the parking around the outside and scooted the outer ring so it was adjacent to the inner ring.

Yes. The design of Shadow Lake is horrible. One day we were eating at Red Robin and I needed to go to Best Buy. If the center had a better layout, it probably wouldn't have been that bad, but with it being 90 outside I got in my car and drove over. I felt lazy but no one wants to walk 1/2 mile in that heat unless they are exercising.

I am old enough to recall when Shadow Lake was first announced. It was seen as a wonderful design, with something of a Town Square motif. So much has changed in the past 20 years.

Rally House, a sports apparel store from KC, is opening their first store in the metro at Shadow Lake this fall. Construction permit address points to it taking the space vacated by Dress Barn.

We stopped in for lunch the other day thinking a weekday lunch was a safe bet. We have a picky eater that would eat spaghetti 7 days a week if you let her and we were in Papillion, so the new OG seemed like it would be easy. Instead, it was pretty busy with a wait to be seated. Sooner or later people will figure out it's Olive Garden and churns out the same food as all of the other Olive Gardens. lol It's always amusing to watch everyone flock to a chain's newest location as if it's somehow going to be radically different than that chain's 1,000 other locations. I get it when the chain is opening its first unit in a new market, but for a chain that's been established in this market for YEARS... come on, people.

My definition of a “restaurant” is one where there is full table service. And an Italian restaurant would have to feature a decent variety of Italian pastas, seafood and desserts.

It was one of the most anticipated openings in Shadow Lake Towne Center history. For years folks were asking for an Olive Garden and now it's here. The Sarpy County Chamber had a special better late than never ribbon cutting for the casual dining giant.

So there was a ribbon-cutting for Noli's Pizza in Gretna yesterday. Is that bad? There are ribbon cuttings all the time for many types and sizes of businesses and communities. Most do not get covered by the media. If a ribbon cutting gets under your skin I don't know what to say.

Noli's is at least a local business, not a hyper national generic Italian chain. It's a weird flex to act like this is some huge get. It doesn't get under my skin, it's just lame.

I think you got the description mixed up; it's a national hyper generic Italian chain. Jokes aside, the people of Papillion were asking for it, apparently, so they wanted to celebrate I guess. Particularly for Shadow Lake, a new business is something to celebrate.
