I'll point out, as we've seen from graphs posted in more relevant threads, that weekend ridership is substantially improved on ORBT compared to the 2. That tells me it's being used a lot more for nightlife and other non-work activities that we want to see transit being used for.

Okay- I think we get your point- you have zero desire for, nor belief in, a streetcar route for the downtown core. Your mind is made up..you’ve dug in, and that’s your opinion..NEDodger wrote: Sat Sep 18, 2021 5:17 pm Look at allllll those riders dressed like empty seats!

You’re entitled to it..
In the spirit of not continuing to sound like a broken record, I suggest you take your own advise from a few posts back, and stick with the GLM thread topic moving forward..
Thanks…

It pulled into the last stop empty, yeah. But when I got into my car at 49th and Dodge, that one was empty. Heading to pick up my buddy, the eastbound ORBTs at UNO and 90th and Dodge were also empty.
Look, I want ORBT to be successful. But I’m also not an ideologue who is going to pretend this thing is a success.

In any case, moving on..
From the latest Riverfront Redevelopment newsletter, which i find a nice, free resource for monthly project updates-
“As you drive Douglas Street along the north side of The RiverFront, a glance just past 11th Street reveals an interesting structure sprouting from the ground in Gene Leahy Mall. This is the beginning phase of the Cascades, an interactive water feature for kids and adults alike. With cool, refreshing water flowing down three levels of pools, the Cascades will be a perfect spot to beat the heat on a summer day.
Now that the piping and rebar is all in place, the construction team is currently focusing on pouring the concrete walls, taking shape in the picture below. These walls will approach finality in the coming weeks and eventually be topped with an attractive granite. Upon reopening, this area will be filled with life and energy in the summertime, while maintaining an air of intriguing elegance throughout the winter – when the water must be turned off for the season.
Fluidity Design Consultants created the Cascades, drawing from three primary inspirations: the regional context of waterfalls and cascades, the limestone bluffs on the Missouri River, and The RiverFront site itself.
“The blocks overflow water on three sides and into various pools, with waterfalls on the east side of each pool, expressing a connection to the Pond and to the Missouri River beyond,” said Karen Adhikari, Studio Director at Fluidity. “The waterfalls are intended to be alive and non-glassy. Periodic surges in water flow create momentous and exciting events.”
Trees will be planted both within the Cascades, providing protection from the sun, and surrounding the area, shading nearby caregiver seating. Play surfaces will be textured, coated with non-slip materials to ensure the safety of splish-splashing bare feet, and water will be filtered and cleaned on an ongoing basis.
While this summer may be quickly drawing to a close, The RiverFront team has their sights set on 2022 – when the community will officially be invited to dive back into Gene Leahy Mall.”…

Walking on the Kerry bridge the other day couldn't help noticing just how prominent a place on the skyline this potential new building on the library site will be. It really will be the center piece and provide a great symmetry to the whole picture. Be nice if it were tall but even more importantly it really better come dressed to impress since it looks like it will be the new front door. Should land somewhere right between the OWH and Landmark from that view so the architecture should really pop. Hopefully it's something unique and stunning and hopefully the rest (like streetcar) comes to fruition here as well Cowboy. Can't wait for confirmed news.

The current rumor that has been heard from multiple independent sources is that the building that will be proposed for that site could be up to 20 stories. So it could be around 300 ft.omahahawk wrote: Mon Sep 20, 2021 3:23 pm Walking on the Kerry bridge the other day couldn't help noticing just how prominent a place on the skyline this potential new building on the library site will be. Obviously, to really make that dramatic impact, we’d want that potential tower to be in that 18 story range..
The rumor has much momentum. My sources tell me would should hear something around December..

I’m good with that. I know some didn’t care for the Capitol District buildings but I really like how the Marriott turned out.

They have a lot of experience with high rises. They're doing 6 X Guadapule in Austin, it will be the new tallest when finished. Mixed-use office/residential with first floor retail and 65 stories with a a height over 870 ft tall.NEDodger wrote: Mon Sep 20, 2021 11:57 pm I’m good with that. quick google maps search of the area and they have 1416 listed as residential tower. There are also some renderings that marry up with the previous proposal.
If they were to build at the library and Lanoha property, it'd really make an impact looking at Omaha from the north east

The Library site proposal, once it’s unveiled, calls for a significant high rise on part of the parcel- on the low end, 14 stories..on the high end 18 (from my source)..Others have cited up to 20. Obviously, from a dramatic skyline impact, 18-20 stories would be ideal here..Doctor Fate wrote: Tue Sep 21, 2021 12:25 pmThey said they had heard the library site tower would be up to 20 stories, which is in line with other rumors on this thread. What JE Dunn is looking at building on the Lanoha Site is really something potentially special..and more significant than the proposal Lanoha rolled out February/2019..This building proposal, from what I’ve heard, will have significant skyline changing potential..
We’re about 3 months give or take from announcements.. But stay tuned.. I suspect we’ll all be really impressed once we hear and can see what is planned…

Lanoha still owns the property, but JE Dunn has come up with a newer plan for the site which, has yet to be revealed..but there is strong, “in the know” rumor that it will be more dramatic/significant than the Lanoha plan from over 2 1/2 years ago..
Fingers crossed

The Library site proposal, once it’s unveiled, calls for a significant high rise on part of the parcel- on the low end, 14 stories..on the high end 18 (from my source)..Others have cited up to 20. Obviously, from a dramatic skyline impact, 18-20 stories would be ideal here..
Ciao..LiO…Peace
That’s fantastic and I hope it becomes reality - I loved the original Lanoha site plan, so an improvement even on that would be a home run.
Lanoha still owns the property, but JE Dunn has come up with a newer plan for the site which, has yet to be revealed..but there is strong, “in the know” rumor that it will be more dramatic/significant than the Lanoha plan from over 2 1/2 years ago..
Fingers crossedas always…

Sixth And Guadalupe, and Tempe's "The Local" for example.
I have a meeting scheduled with the Cryptic Rumor Department in a couple of weeks.. I’ll see if I can procure more intel to share

See if you can convince them to save at least some of the facade of the libraryOmaha Cowboy wrote: Wed Sep 22, 2021 8:05 amCan’t wait to see what these proposals look like..Athomsfere wrote: Wed Sep 22, 2021 7:48 amI loved the Lanoha proposal. Was listening to Grow Omaha from 2 weeks ago and Jeff said that the office building on the library site seems to be highly likely. Maybe not his direct wording but is basically what he said.

No way. The shitstorm that would cause after everything else that happened with OPL this week would be enormous.

They might announce this along with the new main library as an attempt for good PRThatGuy wrote: Fri Sep 24, 2021 11:35 pm No way. The |expletive| that would cause after everything else that happened with OPL this week would be enormous.

I heard that too. Jeff said something to the effect of an announcement would be made this winter. This again lines up with all of the other rumors on this thread over the past month or two about a high rise on the library site.Spice Johnson wrote: Fri Sep 24, 2021 7:51 pm Was listening to Grow Omaha from 2 weeks ago and Jeff said that the office building on the library site seems to be highly likely. At this point, yes, total agreement. The city needs to have a plan in place for a replacement downtown branch and a new main library before they announce anything on the library site.PotatoeEatsFish wrote: Sat Sep 25, 2021 1:48 amThey might announce this along with the new main library as an attempt for good PRThatGuy wrote: Fri Sep 24, 2021 11:35 pm No way. Personally I'm 100% against tearing that building down and would do anything it took to make sure it didn't happen. I know there are plenty of people who could care less, but I think the library is cool as heck. https://stacker.com/stories/3102/50-arr ... ted-states

Re: Library Lot & West Gene Leahy Block Redevelopment
The by product of our Riverfront Redevelopment plan, is that as the 3 phased project nears its completion by mid 2024, numerous development projects will become a by product of it.. Its part of the bigger picture plan of making the downtown core area a more vibrant, walkable, livable 24/7 type environment..
One of those developments will be the soon proposed high rise office building which would be constructed on part of the parcel which contains the W Dale Clark Library- which will be replaced and relocated..I’ve brought up, fairly recently, that a good spot to relocate a more modern and functional library downtown, would be along the Riverfront and next (or close to) where our world class Luminarium Science Museum is currently under construction..I believe it would a perfect “hand in glove” fit…

Right, a library you can drive right up to and have easy parking in a parking lot for free. Or the old Civic lot is another possibility and even North downtown.
