Mile Hill Lake in the Loess Hills south of Council Bluffs

Post by WorldStreet »

With the warm November weather this past weekend, we went across the river to the Loess Hills and found a lovely small lake. I only recently learned that "Loess" is pronounced like "Luss".

Thanks for posting. We drive by here all the time on our way to eat at Bucksnort in Glenwood, I need to actually get out and explore the place.

Just north of there on 195th St is West Oak Forrest. A hidden gem of the area, as much of the parks and natural areas are up and down the Loess Hills.

Is West Oak Forest as big of an area as Mile Hill? Also, are there any trails?

What type of food does Bucksnort serve? I'm going to guess that the restaurant was named with deer in mind...

It has a little bit of everything. I thought they had 4 locations, but apparently they have 9. https://www.bucksnortrestaurants.com/

Bucksnort is a good casual place to go to. We love going to the one in Glenwood because its about a 10-15 min drive from our house on Hwy 34 and its not usually too busy. Just a nice place to get a decent meal and to not have to deal with a lot of traffic.

I might have to get the Grunt Snort Wheeze Burger.

Haha, they do have a Swamp Donkey burger (brisket, onion rings, BBQ sauce)
