I'm glad Crawford got paid, but it's too bad he's not going to be able to fight any of the best at welterweight since they're all with PBC and he's with Top Rank.

Wouldn't miss it. It looks like you could not bet on this fight at Ameristar. Seems like Crawford would be a good bet.

Crawford got through this fight pretty much unscathed. This guy was nothing but a sparring partner for Crawford until he tagged Crawford in the 3rd or 4th round and had Crawford's brain full of cobwebs. Crawford shook it off and decided he was done fooling with this guy and then went after him. It was pretty much ugly after that as Crawford chased and cornered him in the ring like a cat does with a bird trapped in the garage.

Terence wanted to give MSG, Top Rank and the nation in general an entertaining bout. That it was. Kavaliauskas is a physically strong fighter and got a few good licks in on Bud. But Crawford was basically playing cat and mouse with him..and when it was time to go in for the kill- the fight was over in 3 rounds...

Undefeated Omaha super middleweight Steven Nelson makes ESPN debut Saturday
Nelson (15-0, 12 KOs), trained by Terence “Bud” Crawford trainer Brian “BoMac” McIntyre, fought his first 14 bouts as a light heavyweight before moving to super middleweight. He won his debut at that weight Sept. 1 in Omaha. The fight is scheduled for 10 rounds for the vacant NABO title.

I hope this is just for publicity and doesn't happen. It just seems like too much of a gimmick. I realize it could be a bigger payday for him.

My gut feeling is McGregor would be unwise to step in the ring with Crawford.

Bud Crawford's next fight reportedly set for November, but location TBD
Omaha native Terence "Bud" Crawford will be back in the ring this fall.

Crawford will defend his WBO welterweight title Nov. 14 against Englishman Kell Brook. The location of the bout has yet to be determined, ESPN reported Tuesday. The fight will be shown on an ESPN network but will not be pay-per-view.

Omaha and Las Vegas are two potential sites for the fight. Bob Arum, chairman of Crawford's promoter Top Rank, told ESPN fans may be allowed to attend. One option that has been considered is to hold the fight in Allegiant Stadium, the new home of the Las Vegas Raiders, with up to 15,000 spectators.
I am excited to see the Champ fight again. Brook is a solid opponent. It should be a good fight!

The stoppage might be argued to have been early since Brook was showing some defense, but he also ate 4-5 consecutive hard head shots. It didn't look like the punishment would stop had the ref not stepped in. Good showing for the Champ again. I hope he can get back into the ring soon in early 2021.

Crawford's first solid punch in the 4th that sent Brooks flying into the ropes ended the bout. After he was given the 8 count, Crawford followed up with shots that Brooks had no response too. The bout had to be stopped with over a minute left in the round. Sure Brooks might have survived that round if it ended there, but not with 1:30 left in the 4th round. Crawford would have put some serious damage to Brooks.

Agreed. After the first knockdown, Crawford was hitting Brooks at will even with Brooks hands up, and while boxing is a savage sport, no one wants to see a fighter take unnecessary damage.

Here is a quote from Brooks concerning the finish:
"This is boxing. I obviously got caught with a shot I didn't see and the referee waved it off," Brook said. "That hasn't happened to me before. I always said that if I am going to lose, I'm going out on my shield. The referee saw that I couldn't continue and the fight is over. I don't like to lose on an injury, I would rather go out on my shield and I did tonight.

"[Crawford] has got good distance and fast hands. He has a good eye to land his shot. Never in my career, nobody has ever done that to me, not even in sparring. I got caught with a shot I didn't see and the fight is over. Nobody could have got me in better condition. I felt great."

To give an idea of just how one sided the oddsmakers thought this fight was........At Ameristar Casino if you bet $10 on Crawford you won just 70 cents! If you had bet $10 on Brook and he won, then you would of won $70.

Manny Pacquiao vs Terence Crawford fight reportedly “all but dead” for June 5
The idea of Manny Pacquiao vs Terence Crawford in a June 5 pay-per-view from Abu Dhabi never seemed all that real or likely to actually happen, and now it seems it definitely won’t.

Mike Coppinger reports that “funding from Abu Dhabi investors never came through,” and the fight “appears all but dead.”

This shouldn’t really come as any surprise to anyone. There’s still going to be a hesitance from investors to pay big money for major fights with COVID-19 concerns hardly over and done with, for one thing.
What's next for Omaha's hometown hero? I honestly hope he jumps ship when his contract reportedly ends in the Fall of this year and joins PBC. All the top welterweights are there and he needs to fight some of those guys before they get past their primes to establish himself as an all-time great.

Bud Crawford ordered to defend title against Shawn Porter, his toughest opponent to date
Hunter Paniagua
Terence "Bud" Crawford's next fight may finally be against one of the high-profile opponents he's been seeking.

On Wednesday, the World Boxing Organization ordered Crawford to make a mandatory title defense against Shawn Porter, a former major titleholder who is the No. 2 challenger in WBO's welterweight rankings.

The fighters' respective promoters — Top Rank for Crawford, TGB Promotions for Porter — have 30 days to negotiate and reach an agreement on a fight. If an agreement can't be reached in that timeframe, a purse bid will be ordered, which would send the fight to auction for other promoters to bid.

Bud Crawford-Shawn Porter fight set for Las Vegas this November
Hunter Paniagua
An agreement has been reached for Omaha native Terence "Bud" Crawford to get one of the biggest fights of his championship career.

Crawford will face Shawn Porter on Nov. 20 at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas in a mandatory defense of his WBO welterweight title. A deal between the two fighters' promoters was reached Tuesday, just hours ahead of a purse bid that was scheduled.

Had the fight gone to a purse bid, any certified promoter would have had an opportunity to secure rights to stage the fight. Instead Top Rank (Crawford's promoter) and TGB Promotions (Porter's promoter) agreed to put on the fight, with Top Rank reportedly taking the lead on promotion.

The WBO (World Boxing Organization) announced around 10 a.m. Tuesday that the purse bid had been canceled following an agreement between the parties. The purse bid was supposed to be held at 11 a.m.

North Omaha Sports Academy Serves as a Family and Community Focused Center
LEO ADAM BIGA
The warriors inside the B&B Sports Academy boxing gym move to an internal rhythm. Their energy builds, ebbs and flows as they punch bags, shadow box or spar in the ring, skip rope, press pushups, crunch sit-ups. When spent, they stop to catch their breath, arms hanging at their sides. Blood, sweat and tears get spilled, pride and will is tested. Only the sound of coaches barking instructions, occasional belly laughs and the blare of recorded music breaks the intense spell.

This North Omaha community center at 3034 Sprague Street is divided into two wings – the larger east side devoted to boxing and the west side to wrestling. The open boxing gym finds kids, adults, amateurs and professionals training side by side. Whether just getting in shape, learning to box or preparing for a fight, you rub shoulders with veteran competitors, including world champion Terence “Bud” Crawford. The B&B is the home gym of Omaha’s own living legend prizefighter. His reputation precedes him as arguably the world’s best pound-for-pound fighter and for single-handedly reviving the sport in his hometown, which he’s put on the map as a boxing mecca.

His classic hard-knocks story of transcending “the hood” to fight in sold-out arenas and to command pay-per-view audiences has been oft-told. But he’s not the only B&B success story. As others make their marks, Crawford cheers them on.
This is a good, long form article about the impact of the champ's boxing gym in North Omaha. It also covers some of the up and comers and success stories coming out of that gym.

I will admit I haven't been much of a boxing fan for the last couple decades. That being said, my question is, now that Bud has fulfilled is contract with Top Rank boxing, will he now get to really fight someone like Pacquiao?
