That would be really cool. But without fans, how much good would that really do MECA? I also read they were in search of a "MLB stadium", though I'm sure it's a loose search. TDAP would definitely work, and work well actually.nebugeater wrote: Mon Jul 20, 2020 12:13 pm So with Canada saying that Toronto cannot play their home games at home with the crossing the boarder frequency they need a "Home". Can I assume that MECA and Omaha are going all out to bright the games here?

ESPN is reporting that they are looking at the Jays minor league stadium in Florida, along with their AAA stadium in Buffalo. I would certainly think TD compares to these two.Busguy2010 wrote: Mon Jul 20, 2020 3:32 pmThat would be really cool. But without fans, how much good would that really do MECA? Re: TD Ameritrade Park Omaha
Canada has enough caution and common sense to tell the Blue Jays they are not playing in Canada! In the middle of the pandemic this is a horrendous time for Omaha to suddenly get ambitious and try to recruit the Blue jays to come here. This is a total fools notion and I hope nobody in charge has gave it a second of consideration.
The story goes that the Jays will end up playing in Buffalo because that is where their minor league team is. The story also goes that the team does not like the Buffalo ball park because the locker rooms and amenities are not extensive enough. The locker rooms and amenities at the Omaha ball park are not going to be any better then a minor league ball parks. Then you got dingy sub-par downtown hotels in Omaha. Lousy hot humid dog days of Summer weather in Omaha. ........They would sooner be shot then spend the next 3 months living here!

Yeah but there are issues. Sounds like lighting, replay and broadcast booth might not be up to standards. Team is supposedly also looking to playing in another teams MLB facility (like Pittsburgh). I believe TD due to CWS meets the requirements they are looking for:Busguy2010 wrote: Mon Jul 20, 2020 3:46 pmSeems like it would make sense to keep it in-house, but it would be cool to see them play here.Greg S wrote: Mon Jul 20, 2020 3:39 pmESPN is reporting that they are looking at the Jays minor league stadium in Florida, along with their AAA stadium in Buffalo. The issue is not availability or MECA making an effort it is that MLB is using a regional schedule this year. The AL East will only play AL and NL East teams and so on across the league.
It would make no sense and not be feasible or safe to move the Blue Jays to Omaha for one season due to that fact alone. Basically MLB wants to limit travel between cities as little as possible and having all the east coast teams come to Omaha for 3 game series with limited off days does not do that at all.
Now if an AL or NL central team was in the same boat we would probably see Omaha host an MLB team but with no fans so at that point whats the point to the general public.

Exactly correct. Unless we hear otherwise from MECA or leadership at city hall, what has or hasn’t been done trying to shop TD Ameritrade Park for additional dates of usage is purely speculative..nebugeater wrote: Mon Jul 20, 2020 5:36 pm Yes

That said, it is a shame that this excellent, modern, pretty new and well maintained ballpark sits empty for the majority of the year minus 2 weeks during the CWS and CU Bluejay college baseball..
I think we’d all like to see the ballpark utilized much more during our warm weather months. I’d love to sit down with our mayor and MECA and specifically ask what has been done, and what their game plan is moving forward..because frankly, I have no idea...

cp jay beat me to it....since Toronto is playing all eastern division teams from the NL and AL, it would make no sense to base the Bluejays here for this 60 game season.

Face it ...you all laughed at me months ago when I brought up the idea. Now it’s like a Husker Bandwagon.
Playing games in Buffalo is logical, since an alternative wasn’t presented sooner. But who is that negative guy complaint about locker rooms and media booths? Does he forget the MLB game here last year? Aside from location, I doubt there are few Non-MLB facilities better equipped.
Besides, it’s already a Blue Jay Ballpark.

Re: TD Ameritrade Park Omaha
From Tom Shatel’s W-H “First Downs and Second Guesses” column-
“Sorry, Omaha. It looks like the Toronto Blue Jays are considering a rotation of Pittsburgh’s PNC Park and Buffalo's Sahlen Field to play their 2020 season.
Yes, we have a beautiful major-league style stadium in downtown Omaha — which hasn’t had a ball game since the college baseball season was canceled in March. Last week several readers brought up the idea of making a bid to bring Toronto’s Blue Jays to the home of Creighton's Bluejays.
But it’s not that easy. Toronto’s 60-game schedule is regionally loaded against teams in the American League East and National League East. It’s a pandemic-style schedule.
It’s hard to see MLB wanting all of those eastern clubs flying to Omaha. It may work for the Big East. But not here.
MECA spokesperson Kristyna Engdahl said no contact has been made by MLB, but added, “we’ve had previous conversations — they know we’re here and aware of our availability.”
Nothing has been decided yet. Right now it’s a good idea — but a long shot.“..

No, in an unsolicited bid, First you make a proposal. It will usually be somewhat confidential because the offerer doesn’t want the competition to know. The receiving party may or may not leak the information. Sometimes the leaks are made to get better terms. If negotiations ensue, secrecy is usually agreed.nebugeater wrote: Tue Jul 21, 2020 11:02 amNOt on the bandwagon at all.Omahacritic wrote: Tue Jul 21, 2020 3:41 amOh brother. News came out today that Pittsburgh and Pennsylvania government and department of health officials told Toronto that they could not play home games there because it was a risky and dangerous idea. Well thank you Pittsburgh for giving me hope that not all of America is dumber then dirt.
Anyone that thinks it is a good idea to invite travelers to their city right now is hopelessly clueless. It turns out Florida was not high on the idea of them playing there either. The field in Buffalo is not up to snuff. Right now Toronto is homeless.

It will usually be somewhat confidential because the offerer doesn’t want the competition to know. The receiving party may or may not leak the information. If negotiations ensue, secrecy is usually agreed.nebugeater wrote: Tue Jul 21, 2020 11:02 amNOt on the bandwagon at all.Omahacritic wrote: Tue Jul 21, 2020 3:41 amOh brother. Who said anything about negotiations? I said proposal. Proposals do not get the same cone of silence. And you seriously think it would have been kept secret for 3 months? Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
These types of negotiations do not go on in the public eye until complete or nearly so.
ANd in this country you have every right to be wrong, as you are. A Proposal is a step in a negotiation. You WILL NOT hear about it.
In a solicited bid, yes, confidentiality is more rigid. But we aren’t talking about that.
Regardless ... you think ESPN, Bleacher Report, or Talk Radio wouldn’t have sniffed it out? Seriously?
Based on Shatel ... looks like Meeca was a day late and a dollar short. They eventually made a phone call.
Have you ever been wrong? I am guessing in your mind the answer is no.

KMTV is reporting that Creighton’s baseball game at TD has been called off tonight due to unsafe field conditions. Anybody know the story? Seems odd.

Interesting the drainage system and tarps could not handle this. Seems like there has been enough time.Coyote wrote: Sat Mar 27, 2021 1:03 amPersistent rain has made playing surface unsafe, the remaining two games of the series we be played as scheduled on Saturday, March 27 at 1:00 pm and Sunday, March 28 at 12:00 pm.Greg S wrote: Sat Mar 27, 2021 12:42 am KMTV is reporting that Creighton’s baseball game at TD has been called off tonight due to unsafe field conditions. I agree, this is interesting. I sat in the radio booth one night and watched it rain so hard the dugouts were flooded, and they still played the next morning.Greg S wrote: Sat Mar 27, 2021 2:53 pm Interesting the drainage system and tarps could not handle this. The Charles Schwab Corporation today announced the company is retaining exclusive naming rights to the home of the NCAA Division I Men’s College World Series through 2029, which it obtained from its October 2020 acquisition of TD Ameritrade. Effective in 2022, the 24,000-seat baseball stadium and entertainment complex in downtown Omaha will be renamed, Charles Schwab Field Omaha. The firm also revealed new branding signage for the venue.

Doesn't really matter to me what they call it. When it replaced Rosenblatt, all the charm of the Omaha baseball stadium was lost. But I agree, I like the green better. But green is one of my favorite colors, so it could just be that.

Re: Charles Schwab Field Omaha (TDAPO)
I could care less what it's called, truly. Every stadium in the city has a soulless corporate name. CHI Health Center Omaha sounds weird to me, but other than that, they are all pretty much the same.
