From the Riverfront monthly newsletter released 2/28/22-
“When Gene Leahy Mall reopens to the public on July 1, downtown Omaha will see its vision of an activated green space come to life. Creating a highly activated park has been a goal since The RiverFront project broke ground. And the best part, most of The RiverFront’s events and activities are free to the public!
But what does an activated park look like? The RiverFront’s activation model combines its amenity-rich space with a variety of daily, weekly, and monthly programming along with numerous marquee events. When you visit The RiverFront, there will always be something to do!
There are many reasons that an activated space has been important throughout the planning process. Studies have shown that the key to increasing park attendance is through programming. These well-planned activities will help visitors feel comfortable while using the space, and an uptick in attendance has been proven to create safer spaces.
A variety of activities may also help to diversify park users and build a stronger sense of community by providing new opportunities to connect. Through a wide array of programs and events, not only will park visitors make new friends and create memories but explore activities they might’ve never tried before.
Another key goal of The RiverFront is to cultivate local economic growth, which will also be accomplished through the use of programming – made possible by already blooming partnerships with local Omaha businesses. While events and programs will be hosted throughout all three parks of The RiverFront, they will be organized and orchestrated by a growing list of program partners. Through this opportunity, businesses can showcase what they have to offer while also providing an exciting (and free!) event for park visitors to enjoy.
So, what types of programming will you see at The RiverFront? While the event schedule is not yet announced, there will assuredly be something for everyone. Seriously – everyone! Activities at The RiverFront will cover a range of categories, including arts and culture, fitness, games and hobbies, nature, education, animals, and family-oriented events. Whether you live or work nearby, or if you have guests visiting from out-of-town, The RiverFront will be the perfect gathering place for all.
In the coming weeks, there will be exciting announcements regarding Gene Leahy Mall’s grand reopening as well as information on program partners, so make sure you’re following The RiverFront on social media and invite your friends and family to sign up for this newsletter!”…
