I randomly came across this new business opening on February 7. It's basically a c-store for metals. It started in Canada, but has stores all over the US.

Well, that's kinda cool. I don't know of a previous metal supplier in Omaha (maybe I just didn't know or try hard enough). I've made a few knives, and the mail order price is pretty steep. I may check this place out.

This place could be pretty cool for someone like myself who uses steel rod for decorations. State Steel is great, but now they won't cut down 20' sections in half because they say it takes too long. And places like Lowes/Menards/Home Depot/etc charge an arm and a leg for 6' steel pieces.

Unfortunately it's another industry that's blaming the pandemic for increases in prices... my day job uses a lot of steel so it's gone through the roof over the past 1.5 years.

I can say this - I'm sure my wife will be OK if she never steps inside the place... I took her to Harbor Freight once and it was not fun. TBH, I don't really care for where our only HF location is at, either.

Funny, I read this earlier this morning and then I went to Lowes over lunch. 4' sticks of aluminum were $13+ and 8' sticks of the same aluminum were $11+. Must be a lot of work to cut them in half... LOL

My retail conspiracy theory is that the home improvement and hardware stores have learned that they can charge a premium for things cut small enough to fit inside a car. Many people can't accommodate an 8+ ft length of metal or wood without a pickup or trailer. The retailers know this and charge accordingly.
