This is still an improvement over what was there, even if it looks a little boxy. I believe these are the tallest residential buildings in Sarpy county.

Have any restaurants opened in any of the retail bays? I don’t get to this part of the metro very often.
I remember pre-COVID, there was a deal with some Pittsburg restaurant group to put a couple of their concepts here. I suppose that’s fallen through?

Edit:
Found a wowt link about it from 2019

I know they now have a deal with "The Dead President Restaurant Group" (Owners of Lincoln's Pub in CB) and they are planning on opening up a few of their new restaurant concepts here as well as in the Lincoln Leighton District in Lincoln.

Looks like Chili's has made its move (one block south). Their website now lists the La Vista location as being at 8373 Barmettler Dr instead of the previous 7875 S 84th St. I'm not sure if the new one is open yet as I haven't noticed anyone dining there yet, but I know the old one is now closed.

I did notice while perusing Google Maps that a restaurant named It's Just Wings is showing near where Chili's old building is. Of course, Google's map pinpoint may be off too. It is a new development and the mapping is always wonky on those at first. Perhaps it's already there and just hidden from view from 84th street.

I experienced gracious dining at Chili's Friday past, I was informed by the waitstaff that they would close on Saturday and open Wednesday at their new address. I'll be driving by there tonight. Hopefully, I'll remember to look :-)

It's Just Wings is a Door Dash front ran out of Chilli's. A few of these chain restaurants list themselves with a different name and menu on these delivery services. Basically running multiple restaurants out of one building. But there is no dine in service.

I drove by last week and it looked funny with both buildings having all the light on. It appeared that there were 2 Chili's just a block apart....thanks for the info on when they are opening.

I stopped in for lunch today. Nice place inside. Same familiar faces working there. At the end of the day it's just new real estate and new décor. Same menu. Same staff.

The "main entrance" is stupidly located facing 84th street despite the fact that the parking is on the side (and by "side" I mean what should be the front of this strip mall unit). So, they want you to walk around the building to enter. That'll be fun on cold or rainy days. I ignored the signage and went in the "Chili's To Go" doors instead.

Here is an aerial update.

Caution there is a totally unnecessary spinning of the drone in the middle that will make you dizzy.

What is going where that base for the crane is? Is that the parking structure seen below?

I had to look up what the Link was and found this article with some renderings:

City Council Recap: La Vista readies for ‘The Link’; looks to fill vacancy
The city councils of La Vista and Papillion convened on Tuesday, March 15, for their scheduled bi-weekly meetings.

In a unanimous vote that will alter the look and feel of the City Centre and Central Park, the La Vista City Council approved a guaranteed maximum price of $15.9 million with JE Dunn Construction Co. for construction of “The Link”.

The Link is a large wood, concrete and steel pavilion that will sit between the soon-to-be-built Astro Theater in City Centre and La Vista Central Park. The two-story structure will feature bathrooms, concession stands and storage space. Common areas with seating, including a community lawn, will surround both the pavilion and the Astro.

The upper level of The Link has an oversized covered deck area. With a finishing flourish, a wooden dock-like area will extend into the nearby lake. The location not only “links” the City Centre to the park, it also hooks up with the city’s walking paths.

Is that a parking garage being built directly along 84th Street, where Chili’s once stood?

Hard Hat Tour of The Link in La Vista's Central Park

Construction on The Link in Central Park and The Astro venue in City Centre progressed nicely through the fall and early winter months. Here's an updated look at the construction area with more details about the projects.

January 10, 2023 drone flight

Welcome to our first Central Park/City Centre drone flight of 2023! It has been a while since our last update and you can see the new trail on the west side of the big lake as well as enormous progress on The Link, The Astro and the City's second parking garage. Lots of work to be done, but crews are really working hard through the winter!

February 21, 2023 drone flight

It’s time to show you the construction progress since last month on the projects in Central Park and La Vista City Centre! You can see the rooflines on The Link as well as the decking for the boardwalk. Also evident is the outdoor stage for The Astro and the space between the stage and The Link that will be the outdoor amphitheater. The City's second parking garage is also progressing nicely and is now at its maximum height. Lots of work to be done, but crews are really working hard through the winter!

Just to happen to have been in that part of Lincoln a couple of times over the last two months. Ate in the Leighton District (N 48th St & Leighton Ave) twice. Once at Lincoln's Pub and once at Imperial Kitchen. Both were nice experiences. Lincoln's Pub is part of that Dead Presidents Group and would be a nice add to La Vista, but I fear that particular restaurant concept has been beat to death (red brick, concrete floors, craft beer on tap, gourmet pizza and burgers...). Though, I'm frequently reminded I'm not a scientific sampling of Omaha bar and restaurant patrons, so maybe I'm the only one worn out on the concept. :)

I'd been hearing for some time that the Dead Presidents group / City Ventures marriage was definitely on the rocks and had gotten, shall we say, less than amicable.

Its hard to make good business relationships when your developments take 6 years to get done.

Wonder if these extended timelines will have any strain on their relationship with 1% Productions for the Astro Theatre as well.

Agreed. I too was thinking La Vista City Centre has been in development for way too long. However, I'm a layperson and just assume it's ignorance on my part on just how long that stuff realistically takes. So, I try not to be the guy that's constantly going, "It's still not done?!" However, this one does seem to be dragging out. Now, granted, the last few years have been weird with lockdowns, and employee and supply shortages, so that probably didn't help.

I keep meaning to check that place out too and I've been forgetting (for apparently 2 years... lol).

Do they serve food at all? That is, is it the type of place you would stop in for lunch?
