New to Omaha, looking to plant myself here

Ok long story short, I lived in Florida not long ago. i left my moms with a lot of my saved funds to go to South Carolina last March, I was there about 6 months, left, went to Florida to find it was so expensive and I had to live in motels like almost the whole time. The housing crisis was terrible, it voted mostly red with all the newcomers. SC and FL both had their housing problems as they were warm states and red. Not a good thing in my opinion.
Fast forward to now, February to Early March. I leave FL to stop in Indianapolis for 11 days or so to see if I would like it there. I found i did not. I took off, last Sunday I ended up in Omaha. I was wanting to move to Omaha for awhile though like for a few years almost, I just didn't. I had a list of places I wanted to go and would just cross them off as I went or as they got too crowded. Texas being one of them, FL was not even on the radar then as I had already lived there before and done a lot of it but like an ex, it keeps pulling you back in. It tells you oh it will be fine this time! and nothing gets better.
So I had Texas on the list, I had Las Vegas or Arizona initially as I was in Oregon but I didn't bother going to those. I went to SC as I found I could fly on a plane without getting a vax but I did want to go to Omaha then to be honest but since my mom went there when she was young, told me I'd be nuts to do it. But here I am now in 2022 giving Omaha a shot, so HERE I AM!

The things about Omaha that stood out to me we're. The indie music scene, the fact they do have a Little Italy, I think Ted Dibiase was from Omaha as well. Malcolm X. It had some key things that kind of stood out to me over time. and I guess the Reuben Sandwich is from here too. Thus far from all the food I tried and the places I been, I have to say I have been pleasantly surprised. I like the food offerings I've had and since the Reuben was invented here, can't imagine how good it would be.

I am 41, single, I am a trans person and will put that out here for the record. I have seen a few trans people out in public so far since I been here. One who worked somewhere and another as a customer in a supermarket. I feel I picked the right area (Omaha/Lincoln) for the most affordable price for someone tired and poor from another location. Locals believe the housing market is real competitive now in Omaha, and while it might be, its nothing like what I came from and people will not be moving here in droves. Winters I understand can be lousy but its nothing I haven't seen before as I have lived in snow.

Where are some good places to go where I can meet good people and potential friends though, vs running into some of the more narrow minded types that seem to find me on craigslist for housing ads? and how can I go about getting a Nebraska drivers license and tags?
