It’s that time of year again- 2021 US Metro/CSA estimates coming 3/24/22-

Post by Omaha Cowboy »

For a point of reference, here are the official 2020 US Census numbers for the Omaha Metro (MSA) and (CSA)-

967,604 metro and CSA- 1,004,771

Will the estimates continue the “tradition” of lowballing Omaha or not (lol).. WE SHALL SEE..

In the meantime, here is my 2021 Omaha prediction-

979,500 metro and 1,016,500 CSA..

Get your predictions in, we only have through Wednesday this week! :) .. What say you?…

The US growth rate nearly stalled from 2020 to 2021, and Nebraska went with it.

The US growth rate was .1%, and Nebraska was .11%

I estimate that we will see the MSAs with a .2% growth rate last year. Any more would be gravy.

Last note, it was a lost year for population growth. Next year will be different.

My old signature got too old. So old it was getting almost as old me as me. Yeah, it was up there in years.

If the state estimates are anything to go by, I'd say a minor growth to 971,000 and 108,000.

Nailed it. Some big cities absolutely hemorrhaged people. The nyc metro lost almost 400,000 people. Manhattan alone lost more than 100,000, almost 7% of the population.

I see you did nail this one Garrett..

At least the Omaha metro grew..

Hopefully, this Covid estimate period is an anomaly, and we see the Omaha metro back to its more robust growth pattern..even with the traditional estimate lowballing :thumb: ..

Thanks for posting those numbers Skinz..It was a busy day at the office. I’ll snag the CSA estimate in a bit…

According to the “Covid” 2021 Census estimate, the Omaha CSA clocked in at 1,008,740…

Save it for next year..hopefully, the Omaha metro will be back on the robust growth track. With everything going on within just the city core area alone, I believe it will- and then some. Fingers crossed 🤞…

in my case, SWAG is never a misnomer. So all is good.

What no one seems to be acknowledging here is that this is also the result of the draconian immigration policies implemented by the previous administration and continued by the Biden administration and the CDC. Yes, they are Covid related, and as Covid becomes a page 2 story the immigration restrictions will soon be relaxed. But the fact is that by in large, people residing in the US, like residents of Europe, aren’t much interested in reproducing at rates that would allow for population growth. Without robust immigration the US will have stagnant population levels for the foreseeable future.

It becomes an economic issue as well. I would recommend looking at Japan’s ridiculous immigration policies and how they are facing the consequences of stagnant growth and an aging population.

I’ll just wait for the new US Census estimate next March before I read too much into the “Covid year” estimates which just came out..

Omaha’s metro, specifically, had a healthy 12% growth rate from 2010-2020..I would expect at least that, if not more robust growth..due to what the city will need to accommodate as it relates to the NExT plan and city core development this next decade. If we do not grow at least as robustly as we have, much of these plans will not reach near full potential..

We’ll see. But I remain very confident and bullish on the Omaha metropolitan area…
