Investigators looking into wife of suspect in Laurel, Nebraska homicides

It's been two weeks since four people were killed in Laurel, Nebraska, and the homicide suspect is still in a hospital bed. Jason A. Jones, 42, was taken into custody in Laurel, Nebraska, and is still being treated at a Lincoln hospital for severe burns. The motive for the homicides is unknown at this time. KETV NewsWatch 7 has new details about Jones's wife and where investigators believe she was on Aug. 4.

Jones is facing 10 charges total, including four counts of first-degree murder, but has yet to appear in a court room. He's the only person charged in the case, but not the only person officials are investigating. One search warrant reveals severe burns to Jones's legs, arms, and body and that his wife Carrie had to "peel off what was left of Jason Jones' clothing from his body when he arrived home," but investigators never found remnants of burnt clothing. The warrant, which was granted, was looking for permission to look again.

Another warrant focuses on Carrie Jones, saying a witness who saw the explosion at one of the residences went over to help and "was at the west door he had contact with Carrie Jones on the property." The Laurel police chief said Jones admitted to going over to the residence. According to court documents, investigators seized Carrie Jones's cell phone during an interview with the Nebraska State Patrol on August 11, looking for GPS data, images, and messages from early August. We reached out to NSP to see if Carrie Jones is being labeled a "person of interest" at this time, but were told they will not comment on an ongoing investigation.
