Yeah watch, they'll build next to Cabela's. :P (or worse yet, in the Plaza at MAC)
What would be wrong with that? The place could use a few more restaurants.....

Sorry, nothing against MAC... more my redneck phobia tied to Cabela's and Bass Pro. I went in there the other night and felt really out of place.

Perhaps we should start/revive a MAC thread though. I am expecting to see some more tenants coming in there with all the people at Bass Pro Shops now. The chiropractors office needs to be kicked out of there... is this guy the Lancers team physicians or something?

Yeah, the chiropractor down there (at least the last I knew earlier in the year) was the team chiropractor. They really need to move her out if they want to be true to their stated goal of dining, entertainment and retail.

Of course, when the developer for The Plaza is also a lawyer......
Their website is hopelessly out of date, with all the dated info they have on there. Just about makes one hopping mad..... I'm still mildly surprised that nothing has been announced down there yet - of course, with the Famous Dave's 'fiasco' they had, I think they've been a lot more cautious about announcing anything until everything is on paper and signed.

What exactly is your "redneck phobia" Jeff? I've been in there several times and have only seen a couple folk I would consider "redneck". Of course, the NASCAR t-shirts right by the front door and all the stuffed animals don't exactly exude "chic" either.

Exactly Jeff..

And a tease?..C'mon folks..This is the RUMORS section..I submit EVERTHING posted in this section IS a tease (if that's the way you want to look at it)..If I was posting this info somewhere else, then I'd go along with the sentiment..

The Cryptic Rumor Dept pulls no punches..Nor does it provide 'made up' information when it provides feedback in a post..The source here is VERY reliable (just in case anyone was wondering)..

I am just followimg up with infomation provided to me yesterday and posting it here..

Lets not let frustration or pessimism (or both) cloud our patience and positive outlook..A Cheesecake Factory will come to Omaha..And I suspect most here will be happy when it is officially announced..

In the meantime, I'll provide more feedback on the subject when it is provided to me..

I call on national restaurant chains for my job, and was told by the representatives at Cheesecake Factory that they will be constructing a building in the Westroads parking lot. The representatives said they are experiencing difficulty either in the purchase or with the city. These representatives also said they are struggling on whether to call is Cheesecake Factory or their other chain's name. Unfortunately, I do not recall what they call this other restaurant.

This is consistent with what my sources have also informed me..

No doubt, with CF planning to open 17 new restaurants in 2006, Omaha will be one of them..

Thanks for the feedback!..

That would be quite a coup, actually. While I love a $6 slice of banana cream cheesecake now and again, Grand Lux Cafe's locations are more distinguished, thus, slightly more elite ;)

Cheescake Factory or Grand Lux Cafe..

Either one would be sweet (pardon the pun)..

But Grand Lux Cafe's are indeed a more 'elegant/exclusive' version of the Cheesecake Factory concept..

From their website:

'Pure Inspiration.
The idea for Grand Lux Cafe came to life when The Venetian Resort, Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas asked David Overton, Founder of The Cheesecake Factory Restaurants, to create an upscale casual restaurant concept for their property.'..

As a side note, this coming Saturday (January 7th) on the Grow Omaha radio show (1290AM KKAR at 8:00AM), they will have on as a guest Jim Sadler, General Manager of Westroads Mall..They will be talking about retail development in Omaha and at Westroads in particular..We may gain some insight on this CF/Grand Lux Cafe development..

Don't miss it!..

If that's the case they should put that downtown in the new Wallstreet Tower Omaha. Heck, if it's CCF do the same too. Make it two stories (3-4 floors of the retail levels) and overlooking the street. That would be nice and extend the resturaunt and entertainment venue to that area. It would make me love the WSO even more.Image

If you have ever been to the Factory in Caesars in Las Vegas it is 2 stories and it is amazing I'd love to see that here.

Obviously Grand Lux is new... not many locations. But I'd rather see the Cheesecake Factory. Grand Lux appears to be more of a casual place, sandwiches, pizza, 'pot pies', etc. Give us our Cheesecake Factory once and for all.

Unfortunately, they will likely not put one in downtown and at Westroads. If the one at Westroads does get developed, they told me they will not put another location anywhere under 10 miles from that location (and they prefer 12 miles). Also, they prefer to be right along a busy Interstate corridor.

Well then, 12 miles would put you at either Gretna or the east I-80/29 interchange (or Hwy 75 across from Offutt), as the crow flies. 10 miles would put you just south of 375 & I-80 or at Bluffs Run or at Cornhusker and 75. Possibilities...

I spoke last night with a close friend of mine who works in corporate at the Cheesecake Factory in California. She told me that it's a sure thing that they will build here in '06. However, she said they're very tight lipped about these things, and that she won't be told where or when until 6 weeks before construction starts. Her educated guess was Village point, but again, that's just a guess. So, six weeks before construstion starts, I'll post back here and let everyone know :)

Thanks for the 'insider' feedback Maverick..It is greatly appreciated :) ..

I'll still bet on the Westroads location..My crypic rumor dept source told me this past Monday that plans are in the works for a free standing Cheesecake Factory restaurant just across from PF Changs..Which makes a lot of sense..In many major cities, the PF Changs and Cheescake Factory locations are very close to one another..But my source did say they are also looking at other locations within Omaha in case their Westroads plan falls through..So I would not rule out Village Pointe..

I don't believe there are any vacant parcels left at Village Pointe though are there? Perhaps it could go on that chunk of land across from Burke street at the 168th street corner, but I don't think the Cheese execs would go for that kind of seperation from the main shopping area.

Why the |expletive| don't they locate downtown?

Aaron..That IS a good point..

Cheesecake Factory restaurants in many locations seem to be placed in more urban-type settings..But the Westroads location is VERY attractive to them simply due to the amount of shopping traffic congregated into one big, specific area..

Where would they go downtown? Chains generally aren't welcome in the Old Market. Maybe a vacant land in what may some day be North Downtown? I know its hard for some people to accept, but the demographics these chains require are in West Omaha.

From a Cheesecake Factory press release Tuesday February 7th:

'New Restaurant Openings

"We successfully opened nine restaurants, including two Grand Lux Cafes, over a nine-week period in the fourth quarter without deviating from our commitment to quality and execution," continued Overton. "Our new markets, including Nashville, Tennessee, Tigard, Oregon and Fresno, California, were very strong, with average weekly sales in these markets in excess of $265,000. In addition, our new Grand Lux Cafe in Long Island, New York averaged weekly sales of approximately $212,000, which gives us considerable confidence as we continue to establish this concept." For the year, the Company accomplished its stated goal of opening 18 new restaurants.

The Company plans to open as many as 21 new restaurants in fiscal 2006, including as many as three Grand Lux Cafes. Consistent with prior years, the majority of the new restaurant openings will occur in the second half of the year. The Company anticipates that two restaurants will open during the first quarter of fiscal 2006. Signed leases or letters of intent are in hand for nearly all of the planned fiscal 2006 openings.'..

imo, i think it would make sense for cf to build a restaurant in far west omaha (vp area) then in a few years (after riverfront place, wallstreet, and the first phases of development between cu and qwestcenter are completed) they could reaccess the area/demographics/etc and hopefully build down there.

KMTV tonight reported that the Cheesecake Factory at Westroads is indeed held up by this conflict between the property owner of the Younkers portion of Westroads and GGP. The report said while they are patiently waiting it out, they have alternate sites selected around the metro.

Well the confirmation is good, and if it makes some people think it alone makes Omaha a higher tier city, so be it. Myself, I've never ate at one so its not a big deal to me in the least. Hopefully the Westroads site doesn't pan out and one of their other sites is downtown like the Brandies building or something. :D
