Nebraska's Next Head Football Coach: Prepare To Be Disappointed
Is Mickey Joseph the person in waiting for the next Head Coach? What do people think about Jamey Chadwell as the next Head Coach? Do people think that Coastal Carolina has that offense to take over were.

Re: Head Coach for Nebraska
I will say I am not exactly enamored with Chadwell. I have been hoping for someone with some success as a head coach in a Power 5 school.
I thought Ravli Lula on 1620 had a good point on 1620. If it's Mickey, don't you announce it before the Michigan game? If he takes us up there and gets blown out (likely) doesn't that make it hard to get everyone behind him?

Doc Talk Podcast: A New Head Coach This Week?
Last week’s rumors didn’t pan out, but where there’s smoke ...
The rumors were flying last week leading up to Nebraska's football game against Minnesota: Athletic director Trev Alberts had found his coach, and an announcement was imminent. We now know there was no truth to the rumors.
If it does happen, there are only two options to pick from: Mickey Joseph has the interim tag removed, or Matt Ruhle. Otherwise, it's a wait until the regular season is over.

Speaking of rumors/speculation- University of South Florida fired their football coach and I have seen Frost’s name pop up on a couple of list down here.

Lots of rumors popping up about Gruden and USF.
Would not surprise me long term if Frost goes to Alabama and is another coach that goes through Saban tutelage. Especially when O'Brien gets his next job.

I will be honest, would be tremendously disappointed if they hire Monken. I just don't see the fit.
The only case I can make for Patterson is if he is there to groom Mickey to follow him.

Husker Doc Talk: Don’t Bite on the Rumor-Mill Bait
Trev Alberts will name his guy in due time
The Golden Calf is a false idol. But, unfortunately, it's tempting to worship it when there seems to be no hope or, in this case, no answers. The Golden Calf I am referring to is every internet rumor that claims to know who the next Nebraska football coach will be. Last week it was Deion Sanders. The week before that, Matt Ruhle. The people who are starting these rumors have one motivation, clicks. That's right, clicks. They feed off your emotions of wanting something so badly that you will listen to anything by clicking on their rumors and lining their pockets with money.

Does Matt Rhule Fit the Bill for Nebraska Football?
Husker Dan breaks down Rhule’s accomplishments as a head coach
Since the firing of Scott Frost on Sept. 11, there have been a lot of candidates mentioned as possible successors to Scott Frost as the permanent head football coach at Nebraska. Matt Campbell, Dave Aranda, Bill O'Brien, Luke Fickell, Lance Leipold, Kyle Whittingham and Chris Klieman are some of the better-known names. Add another to the list. His name is Matt Rhule. Yes, he's the same Matt Rhule who was fired earlier this fall as head coach of the NFL's Carolina Panthers. So why do people think he might be a good hire for the Nebraska job?

Just some thoughts, during the last week, Trev Albert talked to Nick Saban wondered about what NU needed to talk. What they talked about…. Mickey Joseph still wants to stay around on staff… NU should make the offer after the Iowa came. Mark Whipple needed X-Rays after sideline collision should be on the booth next week.

It could have been just in general since so many coaches from Saban go on to be head coaches (some after issues elsewhere like Kiffin). Or it could have been specifically about Bill O'Brien.Coyote wrote: Wed Nov 16, 2022 5:52 pm Just some thoughts, during the last week, Trev Albert talked to Nick Saban wondered about what NU needed to talk. Trev Alberts says Nebraska's coaching search has made 'very good progress'
Trev Alberts wasn’t ready to make any major coaching announcements Wednesday night. But the Nebraska athletic director said the process for a new football leader continues to go well. Speaking on his monthly radio show on the Huskers Radio Network, Alberts said the search — now passing 66 days and counting — has made “very good progress.” NU does not have a specific date in mind to introduce a new football coach, he said, though he’s well aware of key looming dates like the opening of the transfer portal (Dec. 5) and the early signing period after that.

Re: Head Coach for Nebraska
1. Lance Leipold, Kansas — I’m not going to budge on this one. What Leipold has done at Kansas is remarkable and he’d be an amazing get.
2. Mark Stoops, Kentucky — He’s likely not going anywhere but he’s proven what an amazing job he can do in a rebuild given time.
3. Matt Rhule — Rhule is a great talent evaluator which is what’s needed at Nebraska. He’s a heckuva coach too.
4. Luke Fickell, Cincinnati — He’s turned down bigger jobs but why not make an attempt? He’s the lone playoff coach on here.
5. Matt Campbell, Iowa State — His star isn’t shining as much after an underachieving season last year and 4-5 this season but we know he’s good.
6. Dave Aranda, Baylor — He has Big Ten experience and would recruit well in the Southeast and Texas.
7. Chris Klieman, Kansas State — His team is up and down but he’s a great coach with ties to no man’s land from his days at North Dakota State.
8. Bill O’Brien, Alabama OC — He has Big Ten experience but I’m not as high on him as others.
9. Gary Patterson — What he did at TCU was impressive and it’s clear he left the program in good shape.
10. Jim Leonhard, Wisconsin interim — If Wisconsin doesn’t hire him I wouldn’t hate him for Nebraska.

Whoever is the next coach needs to get the kicker from Westside! Tristan Alvano. 5 for 5 from 44, 50, 26, 42, and the game winner, down by two from 45 yards out, in the State Championship, inside of Memorial Stadium! What a game he had! Kids got a future ahead of him, and hopefully it is at Nebraska.

Lance Leipold extends contract with Kansas football to end Nebraska coaching speculation
One of the football coaches long speculated to be a top contender for the Nebraska job is reportedly re-upping with his current school. Kansas coach Lance Leipold and the Jayhawks have extended their pact two additional seasons through 2029 according to ESPN and other national outlets. This comes after he and KU added a year to his contract in September.

It's very possible (and probable), that Nebraska has made an offer and it's been accepted. Once that happens, those that did not get the job will sign their extensions with their current schools (which got them the better deal with Nebraska and other possible offers and interest).Coyote wrote: Wed Nov 23, 2022 3:19 pm

Report: Matt Rhule re-emerges as candidate at Nebraska
After reports that Matt Rhule would not be the next Nebraska head football coach, the former NFL head man is back in play according to Steven Sipple of HuskerOnline. Rhule previously met with the Cornhuskers last week. However, a report from CBS Sports after that meeting indicated that Rhule declined the job and Nebraska turned to Lance Leipold of Kansas as its top target. But after Leipold agreed to a contract extension with the Jayhawks on Tuesday, it seems the Huskers have found their way back to Rhule.

I much prefer Fickell over Rhule, if I have the option.
I really want Urban Meyer, but I just don't know how realistic that is. And Deion Sanders, but he's still pretty green.
That's about the extent of my list. Meyer, Fickell, Kiffin, Sanders, Joseph, Flanders, in that order. Anything else, I'll be disappointed.

I would be a hard pass on Meyer (and based on criteria Trev laid out, I don’t think he’d be considered). I would also pass on Sanders.

Urban's best years are behind him. He won't want to put in the tremendous amount of work the Nebraska job will require. Same with Sanders just not a good fit for Nebraska.

Husker fans are fools if they don't want Rhule! He's already proved at 2 programs, that might have been even worse off than Nebraska, that he can build winning teams. Forget what happened in the NFL. Also, I'm not sold on Fickell being a for sure hit at a Power 5 school.
