North Downtown is NoDuh

Another possible name I was thinking of is to combine a street name with the geographic features of the area. Since it is at the bottom of the hill, something like "Webster Valley"...what do you guys think?

Maybe "16th Street Entertainment District", or "CalWeb Village"

I think you’re trying to hard. With all of the contrived names that are being thrown out it sounds like we are trying to come up with a name like every other city. I don’t think North Downtown is that bad. Some of these names sound like strip malls. North Downtown has gotten enough press time that everyone knows where it is. It is also easy to find. If you know your directions you can find North Downtown. I think a new name for North Downtown should come naturally. Maybe “Newtown” or “New Downtown” since most of the stuff up there is going to be new.

In opening a new restaurant in a place called North Downtown, I've had to go around town buying supplies for the kitchen. Every time I'm asked where I work, I say InPlay, and they say "oh that place in North Downtown. That's the one in the Tip-Top building, right?". To believe that only the 306 people on this website know where North Downtown is located, and a new name is needed so everyone else in Omaha can find it is a bit strange to me. Given the increases in revenues we are achieving, I'd say there are a fair number of people who know how to get to North Downtown. It reminds me of the highly insulting old post I read a while back where someone stated that people in Bellevue do not know where Papillion is. LOLOL!!! Stupid &%^$#@^. Maybe we should rename all areas of Omaha, so others will then know where they are located. Tivoli is located in Italy, right? Legacy means passing on a bit of history, so it must be somewhere downtown right? Barrington Estates must be the former estate of Robert E. Barrington, Jr., right? I really wish they would have saved the Barrington mansion, instead of tearing it down and building all those modern homes. And after all the Barringtons did for Omaha! Is there a real Stoney Creek?

This area will become North Downtown, and 10 years from now, it will look like an extension of downtown, just like the Old Market is today.

Lets hope some new development announcements are made soon, so we can chat about something other than renaming North Downtown Lower Burtville or South of West O (SOWO).

Unfortunately Chef..You can't please all of the people all of the time..

Hence the apparent obsession with naming an area of DT Omaha that already has an appropriate name: North Downtown..Style over substance I guess..

It looks like Union Pacific wants to make a few more bucks off of North Downtown

North Downtown doesn't have to be shortened to North Downtown, there are many other options.

Northtown
No-town
N-town (this might be taken the wrong way)
NorthDown
No-Down (very positive and cheery)
NoDoTo (sounds almost Japanese - maybe we could get another gate)
West Council Bluffs

the options are endless.

I don't know why we are going to start this arguement again about the name of North Downtown. One thing to think about. You can name it someting that dosn't have the words North or Downtown in it. Its the old market not SoDo or south downtown in Portland its the Pearl Districe, In Lincoln its the Haymarket.

That's what I'm saying.

There's no point in trying to name it now because none of the names are going to stick. The area's going to have to be built up first, and then it will probably take on what ever name feels most comfortable.

It will matter at the point that they start putting up signage and printing it on maps. In Denver, the signs around "LoDo" all say "historic lower downtown district", as long as we do the same, I can get over the nickname.
