Creighton professor speaks on potential effects of ChatGPT in the classroom
Technology is always advancing even in the classroom. This leaves those who learn and teach to question what changes will be made. ChatGPT is the newest piece of technology to make headlines and make its way into classrooms. ChatGPT an artificial intelligence computer program chat bot that mimics human language, answers questions and is full of information. Several tasks can be done with this new AI. It can answer more complex questions or even write a school paper.
This type of advancement in technology could soon change how students learn and professors teach. "I think we’re going to start to see a pretty big shift in the kinds of assignments we give to students, what we ask them to work on and we need to start figuring out where are places where using this technology can be helpful to student learning and where might it cause some problems or disruption," said Dr. Guy McHendry Associate Professor of Communication Studies and Director of Magis Core Curriculum for Creighton University. Dr. Guy McHendry knows changes are happening, but it's about how will those changes affect how he teaches. He does not push ChatGPT away from his students. Instead, he gives them guidelines for using it in his class.
