Microcenter

Not even a full blown rumor, but...

I went to Microcenter with a friend today in KC. He mentioned we were from Omaha to the sales rep and he said that from what he heard, Microcenter is considering Omaha for a next store.

If it happened, the next smallest city with one is in the KC metro, Overland Park.

If you know any tech people, this would be a bucket list item.



My credibility rating of course is like a 1/10. But I thought the forum might like the "rumor".

For my part, it was not. The rep said Omaha and Miami were the two spots in the running.

Omaha would be the smallest market for a Micro Center, but their locations are all over the board so who knows.

It would be pretty nice to have a Micro Center. I had them do some work on my laptop over the weekend after I hit a wall of sorts trying to figure stuff out myself by Googling or searching through Reddit. They did a great job and the guy seemed really knowledgeable. In essence they're like a more competent Best Buy.

It would be pretty nice to have a Micro Center. For me, all the parts I need for a build. Best Buy sometimes have what I need, so I usually end up ordering everything online.

But yes, working with the MC guys is always great. BestBuy's geek squad is pretty hit or miss.

Oh, and they actually have cities not much bigger than Omaha. If Omaha can capture Lincoln, Des Moines, Sioux City and Sioux falls it make sense for them.

I think it was Nashville and Memphis that are currently the smallest markets. And those are about the distance from us to KC.

I know this is an old post but it looks like we lost out and they picked Miami as it's on their store locator. I think they'd do great here.

I visited the Gigaparts store in Huntsville. Having never been to one before, I asked the cashier how many locations they have. He said just two stores for now… Huntsville and Las Vegas, but he said they’re going to be opening up six new stores next year. If Omaha can’t get a Microcenter, maybe they could get a Gigaparts store. The store in Huntsville is around 60,000 sq ft and has a ton of tech stuff. How big is a typical Microcenter?

I just can't help but think the Hobby Lobby at 76th and Dodge would be perfect. Tons of complimentary services nearby, but no direct competition for most of what they sell.
