Husker beach volleyball hits off the season Friday

Nebraska beach volleyball hits off their season Friday with home matches against Wayne State at 8:00 a.m. and Park at 4:00 p.m., according to a press release from Husker Athletics.

The following pairs will start on Friday:

- Bekka Allick and Lexi Rodriguez
- Harper Murray and Merritt Beason
- Ally Batenhorst and Bergen Reilly
- Laney Chuboy and Lindsay Krause
- Hayden Kubik and Caroline Jurevicius
- Andi Jackson and Maisie Boesiger
The matches will be streamed on Huskers YouTube page.

On March 1, two more home matches will be played against Oklahoma Wesleyan at 8:00 a.m. and Ottawa (KANSAS) at 4:00 p.m.
After these matches, the Huskers will head to Gulf Shores, Alabama for its first road trip of the season.

They will face Huntingdon College, Spring Hill College, Florida Memorial University, and University of Mobile in the BadgerRam Beach Bash.

Huskers announce summer trip to Brazil

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - The Nebraska volleyball team will embark on a 17-day trip to Brazil from May 29-June 14. The Huskers will train and play matches in both Rio de Janeiro and Belo Horizonte. NCAA programs are allowed to take foreign trips once every four years, and this will be Nebraska’s first-ever trip to Brazil under Head Coach John Cook. The last foreign trip for the Nebraska volleyball program was a 17-day trip to Japan and China in the summer of 2019. The Huskers also went to Asia in 2000, 2006, 2010 and 2014.

Ticket sales for Nebraska Volleyball Spring Match begin Monday

CENTRAL CITY, Neb. — Tickets for the Nebraska volleyball spring match in Central City are going on sale next week. Starting Monday morning at 8, the only way to get tickets is by visiting the Central City Performing Arts Center. A reserved number of courtside seats are available for $27, with general admission or standing room only tickets going for $12. There's a maximum of four tickets per person and can only be bought with cash or card. This year's match at the Bison Activity Dome, with a capacity of 2100, is set for April 29 at 2 p.m. against Wichita State.

Huskers' Murray adjusting to college volleyball after graduating high school early

As the Nebraska volleyball team prepares for its spring match against Wichita State on Saturday, freshman Harper Murray is adjusting to college life and competition. The 6-foot-2 outside hitter is one of six new faces on the Huskers, and she graduated high school early to join the team for spring practices. It's something she's been looking forward to since she committed to playing for head coach John Cook. And she's already learned more about her playing style.

The Huskers play in Central City at 2 p.m. on Saturday. Coverage will be on NPM.

Supposedly the outdoor game with NU and the other local teams at Memorial Stadium is closing in on 80k for tickets sold and the number will grow today with sales to students.

I speculate that part of the issue with ticket availability was UNL releasing availability in blocks. I am sure the plan is to maintain the sellout streak, and they had no idea what the demand would be.

Huskers Volleyball takes on Wichita State in Central City at Bison Dome

For the second consecutive year, the Huskers' spring match will be televised statewide on Nebraska Public Media and streamed online on B1G+. In addition to television and streaming coverage, the match will air on select Huskers Radio Network affiliates and the official Huskers App. The Bison Activity Dome, with a capacity of 2,098, opened in December 2022 and is home to Central City High School athletics. This will be the Huskers' first trip to Central City and will be the eighth different town in Nebraska to host the spring volleyball match.

Last year, Nebraska played in Grand Island at the Heartland Events Center, where the Huskers beat Kansas, 3-1, in front of a sold-out crowd of 6,117.

Nebraska volleyball freshmen leave impression in spring match win over Wichita State

CENTRAL CITY — The Nebraska volleyball team doesn’t currently have any seniors on its team, and with the small rosters in college volleyball, that means they’ll be playing at least a few freshmen when the season begins in August. Nebraska’s freshmen showed they’ll be ready to help — maybe in a big way — during the Huskers’ 25-20, 25-21, 25-21 win against Wichita State on Saturday. Nebraska kept its tradition of playing a spring match outside of Lincoln going with a sold-out match in a high school gym at Central City High School. It was one of the most standing-room-only crowds you’ll ever see, with more than 2,000 fans packed in tight.

Nebraska volleyball and U.S. Women's National Team legend Jordan Larson has been named a full-time assistant coach for the Nebraska volleyball program, head coach John Cook announced Tuesday.

Larson will join Cook and assistant coaches Jaylen Reyes and Kelly Hunter on the Husker staff once her summer playing schedule wraps up in September. The NCAA Division I Council adopted a proposal in January that, among other changes, allows teams that utilize a volunteer coach to add a full-time coach position beginning this season.

"One of the greatest honors of being the Nebraska volleyball coach is when I have the opportunity to coach with a former player," Cook said. "Jordan and I have talked for years about coaching at Nebraska. She will bring a wealth of experience that she can share with our players. There is no place like Nebraska!"

One of the greatest American volleyball players in history, Larson was the team captain, Best Outside Hitter and Most Valuable Player when the U.S. won its first Olympic women's volleyball gold medal in Tokyo in 2021. After the Olympics, she continued to play club volleyball in China and Italy but planned to retire from international competition. However, last month she announced her return to the national team.

The U.S. is currently competing in the Volleyball Nations League, which Larson is on the 30-player roster for and is available for selection. Larson plans to play with the national team in qualifiers for the Paris 2024 Olympics from Sept. 16-24 in Poland before joining the Huskers for the rest of the 2023 season. She hopes to represent the U.S. at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games as well. Larson briefly served as a volunteer assistant at the University of Texas and Midland University in Fremont in 2022.

"I am very excited to be returning to Nebraska," Larson said. "I can't wait to learn and help the next generation of volleyball players. It has felt so good to be home even for a short time, and I can't wait to join the team in the fall. I really appreciate John giving me this opportunity. Go Huskers!"

A native of Hooper, Neb., Larson was a standout on some of the greatest teams in program history from 2005 to 2008 and was inducted into the Nebraska Athletic Hall of Fame in 2020. She helped Nebraska to a top-five NCAA Tournament finish in each of her four seasons. The Huskers went 127-8 during her career with four Big 12 Conference titles and three trips to the NCAA semifinals, including the 2006 national title and a runner-up finish in 2005.

Individually, Larson was an All-American on the court and in the classroom. She was a three-time All-American and a two-time first-team All-American. At the conference level, Larson was a two-time Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year and the 2008 Big 12 Player of the Year. She was also an Academic All-American as a senior. Larson finished her Husker career with 1,600 kills, 1,410 digs and a school-record 186 aces.

In her freshman season she helped lead the Huskers to an NCAA runner-up finish and was named the Big 12 Freshman of the Year. She was named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year and first-team All-American as a sophomore and led Nebraska to the 2006 NCAA Championship. In 2008, she became the first player to be named Big 12 Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year in the same season.

Larson is one of only two players in program history to rank among Nebraska's all-time top 10 in both kills and digs. She earned a degree in communications studies from the University of Nebraska in 2008.

Larson then went on to a decorated international career. She was a three-time Olympic medalist, helping Team USA to a gold medal in 2021, a silver medal in 2012 and a bronze medal in 2016. Larson helped Team USA win the gold medal at the 2014 FIVB World Championships, the first-ever major tournament gold medal for the U.S. Women's National Team. Larson was then named USA Volleyball's Indoor Female Player of the Year in both 2015 and 2016. In 2017 she was named team captain and led the U.S. to gold medals in four international competitions after that.

Finally, the Nebraska volleyball schedule for this fall is out.
NU and the Big Ten Conference announced the 2023 slate Wednesday. Highlights for the Huskers include Volleyball Day in Nebraska against Omaha (Aug. 30) as well as non-conference matches against Creighton (Sept. 6), at Stanford (Sept. 12) and versus Kentucky (Sept. 17). Nebraska will also host Long Beach State — led by former Husker associate head coach Tyler Hildebrand.

Nebraska Volleyball receives $5 million NIL donation

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - The 1890 Initiative has announced a $5 million NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness) partnership with Nebraska Crossing and JUSTDATA with the funding directly going to Nebraska Volleyball. According to On3 Sports, the public gift is the largest donation to a collective solely for Women’s Sports in the history of the NIL era. The 1890 Initiative aims to support all Husker sports and continues to make strides with NIL.
