Report: Errol Spence Jr. vs. Terence Crawford Welterweight Title Fight in Works

An Errol Spence Jr.-Terence Crawford bout for the undisputed welterweight championship is reportedly in the works. Per ESPN's Mike Coppinger, the two boxing superstars are "closing in" on an agreement for a bout in October.

There has been speculation that a fight between arguably the two best pound-for-pound fighters in the world could be in the works. Crawford told Coppinger in April he would be "surprised" if a deal with Spence didn't come together. The biggest roadblock standing in the way was Crawford's partnership with Top Rank, which ended in November. Spence is managed by Al Haymon, who created Premier Boxing Champions. PBC rarely does business with other promoters, according to Coppinger.

Bud Crawford returning to ring — in Omaha — with Dec. 10 title fight

Champion welterweight Bud Crawford will fight in his hometown arena - the CHI Health Center — Dec. 10 in a title defense against David Avanesyan, Crawford confirmed late Thursday night to ESPN. Crawford, 38-0, had been angling for a "Superfight" bout with Errol Spence Jr. that would have given one of them the undisputed title at 147 pounds. As negotiations have continued, Crawford chose to fight in 2022 against Avanesyan (29-3-1), a Russian boxer who is considered the European welterweight champion.

Bud and Errol are on a collision course and this fight looks like a decent tune up..

Crawford vs Spence is “THE’ fight everyone wants to see. Hopefully it happens in 2023…

Not the best fight out there, but Crawford's once a year fight schedule the last two years is usually two infrequent for fighters to stay sharp. Hopefully, this is nice tune up for a huge Crawford-Spence match in Q1 2023.

Terence Crawford next fight confirmed with date and location named - not Errol Spence Jr

Terence Crawford has confirmed when he will return to the boxing ring and who his next opponent will be. But sadly it won’t be against Errol Spence Jr as David Avanesyan has been given the opportunity to fight for the world title instead. It will be Crawford’s first fight since stopping Shawn Porter at Michelob Ultra Arena last November but not the one many had wanted with the prospect of a clash with Spence Jr diminishing.

"Terence Crawford and David Avanesyan have signed contracts for a welterweight title fight on Dec. 10 in Omaha, Crawford told ESPN. Streaming service BLK Prime will offer the PPV for $39.95," wrote ESPN's Mike Coppinger, who recently took to social media to break the news that multi-division world champion Terence Crawford has announced a December 10 return to the ring to face David Avanesyan as opposed to finalizing a clash with unified welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr. Check it out!

Bud Crawford says bout with Avanesyan 'most likely' his last fight in Omaha

Thirty-three years old. Long ago, before title belts and fighter-of-the-year awards, before pay-per-view main events and $10-million paydays, Terence Crawford pinpointed his ideal retirement from the ring. “I already had my life planned out,” Crawford told The World-Herald recently. “I always said I wanted to retire at 33. … I never wanted boxing to retire me. I always wanted to retire from boxing.”

Was the fight a sellout? I assumed it was but some pics I saw showed empty seats in the upper tier. Wasn’t sure if those were before full crowd arrived?

It's none of my business, but I assumed he'd live in a larger house. Especially since the value of stolen goods is well above any house value in that neighborhood.

South Omaha boxer makes history at national tournament

South Omaha boxer Johnny Montalvo made it to the finals of this year’s Golden Gloves of America National Tournament.

Montalvo fought five matches over five days at the championship in Philadelphia. The event brought out some of the best boxers in America, all eyeing for a spot on the USA Olympic Boxing Team. Montalvo made it to the finals but fell short in the Olympic qualifying event, bringing home a silver. He joins Terence “Bud” Crawford as the latest male Nebraskan to make it to the finals of a National Golden Gloves championship. ”Every dog has their day,” said Johnny Montalvo. “I feel like I gave him a really tough fight. And I know that if I go in the ring, everyone has a shot. So I have to be at the highest level that I can be and compete how I know how to compete.”

Finally...

Sources: Terence Crawford, Errol Spence Jr. agree to July 29 fight
Mike Coppinger
Terence Crawford and Errol Spence Jr. have agreed to a deal to fight for the undisputed welterweight championship on July 29 at Las Vegas' T-Mobile Arena, sources tell ESPN.

PBC's Al Haymon, who advises Spence, and CAA's Ish Hinson, who advises Crawford, negotiated and now will deliver the most anticipated boxing match since the mega fight between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao in 2015.

Crawford and Spence will each earn eight figures guaranteed for the Showtime PPV fight, sources said, and there's a bidirectional rematch clause that the loser can trigger within 30 days after the fight. It's a two-fight deal for Crawford with PBC, sources said. After the probable return bout between Crawford and Spence, which must take place before the end of 2023, both boxers are expected to move up to 154 pounds.

If they split the two fights, a trilogy fight is overwhelmingly likely. And whoever comes out on top is expected to push for a shot at the undisputed junior middleweight championship, which is currently held by Jermell Charlo. Spence and Charlo both train in Dallas with Derrick James.

Terence 'Bud' Crawford confident before July fight with Errol Spence Jr.

Despite success in his career so far, three-division world champion Terence 'Bud' Crawford said he still has something to prove in his July 29 fight with Errol Spence Jr. At his send off party in Omaha on Saturday, he said he's looking to prove his doubters wrong.

"They said I wasn't going to make it," he said. "They said I won't be where I'm at. And, you know, I believed in myself from day one, and I'm here now just to prove everyone wrong that said I wasn't gonna be where I'm at, and I'm a living testimony." Crawford also said he's highly self-motivated, and is confident he'll win the fight, one of the most anticipated in recent history.

The fight will air on Showtime pay-per-view on July 29.

Bud Crawford 'excited' for upcoming bout and partnering with KMTV to Give Kids a Fighting Chance

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KMTV) — Bud Crawford is less than three weeks away from his highly-anticipated super fight against Errol Spence Jr. 3 News Now Morning Anchor Serese Cole was in Colorado Springs recently as Omaha's champ is training for his fight, and she asked him what took so long to get this deal done. “Man listen — I'm gonna say like I always say — it's here now. And you excited. I'm excited and the fight is here. That's all that matters,” said Crawford.

His fight night is on the 29th of July, but 3 News Now is kicking off our own fight week on Monday, looking at the good work Crawford is doing in Omaha with his B&B sports academy. The community-based center in North Omaha focuses on helping kids build healthy futures and it's a mission we're proud to support. We've teamed up with American National Bank for our Give Kids a Fighting Chance fundraiser. Donations will help provide training, equipment and opportunities for kids in our community.

If/when Crawford beats Spence on July 29th, he is going to be the first boxer to ever claim undisputed titles (four belts) in two weight classes. Is he the greatest professional athlete to come out of Omaha at that point? We've had a few really great athletes come out of Omaha, but if he gets his second undisputed title next Saturday, he might be the best. Also, the City should organize a championship celebration at Gene Leahy if he wins, kind of like when a pro team wins the super bowl or other championship.

Former owner of B&B Sports Academy building reflects on sale

B&B Sports Academy opened in 2013. Within two years, it was bursting at the seams — taking up just part of a warehouse near 30th and Sprague. "They were tenants. I had my art studio on one side and B&B Boxing was on the other side," landlord Linda Meigs explained. Linda's late husband, John, was an architect and owned a supply store. He purchased the warehouse in the 1980s.

I contacted the mayor's office about it. They said they do not organize that type of even, but could participate if another organization wanted to plan such an event. I tried reaching out to the Omaha Sports Commission as well, but haven't heard back. If he wins, he's really at the pinnacle of the boxing world, so it would be nice for the city to celebrate it.

Finally. Somehow, this was ruled a split decision for Isaac Cruz, who won the fight by one round -- 115-112, 114-113, 113-114.

Isaac Cruz defeated Giovani Cabrera via split decision in a lightweight fight in the chief-support bout. One judge scored the fight for Cabrera, 114-113, but was overruled by 114-113 and 115-112 scorecards for “Pitbull” Cruz. Cruz landed the harder shots throughout and bloodied Cabrera. The Mexican was deducted one point in Round 8 for head butting but otherwise appeared to cruise to victory. Cruz (25-2-1, 17 KOs) is hoping to land a rematch with Gervonta Davis later this year. He gave Davis a tough fight but lost via decision when they met in December 2021.

Next fight: Errol Spence Jr. vs. Terence Crawford, 12 rounds, for the undisputed welterweight title

The legends are here: So awesome seeing several boxing legends in the building for tonight's massive fight. Thomas Hearns, Roy Jones Jr., Evander Holyfield, Zab Judah, Manny Pacquiao and Mike Tyson all shown on the broadcast feed. This should be a special one.

Just got back from watching this at Tanner’s. Anyone who says that Crawford’s legacy is tainted due to lack of a marquee victory….you’re done. This was an utter dismantling of Spence. After the first knockdown, Spence had to have known he was outmatched. Looked completely winded throwing more punches (that weren’t connecting), while Crawford looked like he hadn’t even broken a sweat yet.

Terence 'Bud' Crawford is undisputed welterweight champion after winning by TKO

Omaha boxer Terence "Bud" Crawford defeated Errol Spence Jr. on Saturday for the undisputed welterweight title. The Omaha native is still undefeated at 40-0 with 31 knockouts and now holds the IBF, WBC, WBA and WBO belts.

Crawford becomes undisputed champion after TKO victory over Spence

Eminem introduced Terence “Bud” Crawford as the next undisputed welterweight champion prior to the Nebraska native’s fight with Errol Spence Jr., and the rapper’s proclamation proved correct. Both Crawford and Spence entered the bout undefeated, with neither have been knocked to the canvas at any point in their storied careers. That changed in the second round when Crawford dropped Spence with a straight right hand. Spence picked up the pace in the third round, looking to take the fight to Crawford, but the Omahan remained sharp, picking his spots to counter and remain in control.
