Countryside cones is Great! They don't have 2 dozen flavors like the chain places, which is totally fine with me. What they did have was really good. They also have Ice Cream Sandwiches too, which I am definitely trying next time we walk up there.

Rooted Table (https://rootedtablecafe.com/) recently announced for the far northeast corner of the rear building. Plant based foods and smoothies. Owners are good friends our ours. Should be another nice addition to the mix.

I was just at The Simple Man last week for the first time and he's got part of his shop downstairs too. Typically reserved for the sale items as well as a dressing room.

There use to be a shoe repair business that was in a downstairs location. I remember walking through another shop to access the stairs. It was somewhere along the business side where Casual Pint is now.

Yes it has a basements. They didn't cut any corners back then. I don't go there much anymore, but it's really aged well as a classic mid century suburban style shopping center. Probably the most historically significant retail building in suburban Omaha. Which is now basically central Omaha.

I used to go there too, when there was a Kenny shoes there in 1960s…

When they built out the Casual Pint, they actually removed the stairs down to their basement. I believe they were right inside the left door.

At last one of the Rockbrook Village buildings has a basement too.

I get the point, but it literally had a Starbucks for probably a decade plus.

That may have been part of it, I think the bigger part of it was getting rid of the family that had been managing it from the start and (the grand son I think?) that had no idea what he was doing with tenant rents. Hence why some of those classic countryside businesses like Market Basket and Bookworm left for 90th and Center.

I remember it as well. Back in the day when we all took shoes in to have the soles replaced or other repairs made. I can still recall the smell of the shop. Shoe Polish and leather.

So does anyone know why nothing has been built in the old Starbucks location on the SW corner of Countryside Village? The window has had a “Leased” sign in it for more than a year, but absolutely no activity. It seems like a prime spot in a now vibrant shopping center.

Its still happening. Trenton ate at the original location a week or two ago and they confirmed its still coming to countryside.

From Grow Omaha this past Saturday, Rooted Table which will be opening in the future actually opened a test kitchen in the former Le Quartier Bakery to try out recipes.

WHAT.....is the deal with the streets both directly west and directly east of the center? Both are like bombed out, World War II, impossible-to-pass-because-of-cavernous-holes streets.

Goes back to that whole substandard streets issue were the city doesn't want to maintain those streets because they were not built to city standards. Most of that neighborhood was that way but they have started to rebuild some streets in that area. The next street to the east is probably one of the nicest streets in the city.

I used to have a buddy that lived near 80th & Leavenworth back in the 90s. I remember his street was a gravel road at the time and I was completely mindblown that there were still gravel roads in neighborhoods in the middle of the city. He said something about the city wouldn't pave them unless they assessed every home in the neighborhood some ridiculous amount, so they residents decided to stick with gravel. Though, a quick check of Google maps street view shows they're paved now.

New neighbors expand legacy of Countryside Village community



Along the busy Pacific Street sits a village of small business where time seems to stop. "I love the nostalgia that Countryside Village has," A space with a small-town feel, but still within the city. That character — attracting a well-known spot from the Metcalfe Park neighborhood.

"Countryside Village for us was kind of expanding within a community, we were in a standalone before in just one part of town," said Saddle Creek Breakfast Club Operations Manager Brynne Roth. Saddle Creek Breakfast Club will fill the space where a pharmacy once sat, and later, Nebraska’s first standalone Starbucks.

I grew up in the neighborhood and have fond memories of many of the past tenants in the shopping center, including the Haney’s shoe store, Krug’s Men and Boys clothing store, the Countryside Pharmacy and Post Office, the shoe repair shop, Broadmoor Market grocery, and several others.
It’s nice to see the center being reinvigorated by all these new places to eat and drink, along with the mix of other shops.
