Shooting Ranges

I know there are a lot of indoor shooting ranges around town, but I don't think I want to be a part of a "club" if you know what I mean. I just want to pay a small per-visit fee at an outdoor range to target practice every now and then and in a low-key, outdoor setting. Does such a place even exist?

Frontier Justice (old Omaha Gun Club) is open to public on a fee basis. 82nd and Center.

88 Tactical has its outdoor training facility near Tekamah. You can pay per use. They have an outdoor range for handguns and rifles.

I had been going to 88 Tactical about once a year keeping up with my shooting skills. I've always been treated respectfully by staff there, and I am impressed with the facilities there. However, in other posts in these forums, I have seen references to 88 Tactical as friend-this and friend-that. Can someone elaborate on this? I'm not looking at this as a political debate, because frankly, I'm tired of all discussion in today's world being on the extremes. I feel that just because the staff and patrons at a particular gun shop are gun enthusiasts, I'm betting they aren't planning on kidnapping government figures (at least in my book).

Is Omaha Gun Club worth checking into? I'm looking at staff friendliness and the quality of the facilities.

I'm guessing that most of the owner/operators at both facilities are right-wing thinking. I'm a centrist, who just wants to work on my shooting skills. Thanks.

The eagle imagery they use with a lot of their stuff, along with a topographical map that said they were located at 1488 feet, despite Omaha being around 1060 feet. 1488 is a huge dog whistle, with 14 referring to the 14 words of Nazism, and 88 referring to HH, or Heil Hitler.

I'm glad this topic got brought back up. I still haven't found the right place for me, outdoor, not a club. However, with the new carry law that came out recently, I finally shot my gun after owning it for 5 years. I took it with me out to Merritt reservoir last week, not a sould around, did some target practice out there. Probably illegal, but if there's nobody around to see it, did it really happen? Plenty of hunters out there too, so I figured to heck with it.

My uncle lived in Phoenix for several years and I was down visiting him. We just drove out into the desert to shoot. Seriously, just drove down some deserted highway for 20 minutes, turned off the road (like, literally off-roading) and drove a mile or two into the middle of nowhere and shot stuff for a couple of hours. I remember remarking about it and he shrugged it off like that's just what gun owners in Arizona do when they want to go shoot.

I have a friend in Reno who does the same thing. I wish there were more deserted areas around here for that purpose. I can't think of anywhere around here you could get away with it. I dunno, maybe somewhere in the bluffs, but I wouldn't feel confident enough to do it. Although, pretty much every time I go to Hummel, I hear gunshots, but I'm certain it's someone on their private property on one of those acreages up there. I don't even know if that's legal, but obviously nobody has stopped them.

Considering the number of road signs on gravel roads in rural Nebraska with gunshot holes in them, I'd say anywhere where you can't see anything but corn is probably fair game. lol

Well, you're probably right. I would just feel paranoid. Probably could get away with somewhere in northwest Douglas County pretty easily, but nah, I wouldn't feel comfortable.

Wow. I would think most places in Eastern Nebraska are too populated to do that safely. I hope everyone would at least identify a good backstop. Certainly not shooting into standing corn where it's not known what or who is downrange.

Oh I'm certain they are. Especially where I heard them, they were surely on their own property. I'm surprised too, but you go just to the edge of the city and this is what you can see. I think it's pretty cool. I'd love to have an acreage with enough land to have a shooting range. Reminds us that we DO live in a rural area. We just have a small urban piece of it.

I am driving in rural Nebraska probably more than most on here. 20 years ago, you would see a lot of shot-up signs. Now, while there are a few, it is not common at all.
