2024 four-star Jackson McAndrew signs with Creighton men's basketball

McAndrew, a consensus Top 50 power forward, is one of the Bluejays highest-rated prospects in program history.

That is a great story about McAndrew's father playing for McDermott at UND years ago.

It is now official, Zeke Mayo from South Dakota St has entered the NBA draft and transfer portal. There had been rumors that he might strongly look at transferring to Creighton similar to what Baylor did 2 years ago.

Obviously Creighton isn't done playing but something to look for.

South Dakota state also had William Kyle III from Bellevue go into the portal.

Curious - which Jays, do you think, will enter the portal? McDermott didn’t go very deep into his bench, especially the last half of the season, so a lot of players received very little game experience.

I think Fred king might, Jonathan Lawson prob will. Other than that Baylor is done, Kalk will either go pro or come back, Trey will prob go pro. No one else really played so I don’t think it will matter much. I also think Dotzler will come back.

I am curious as to what happened to King as the first part of the season he came in to give Kalk a break and then mid to late season he rode the bench. Of course, when you play your starters as many minutes as creighton did - no one else gets game experience.

That would be astounding, but I'm not holding my breath. Some of the new prospects joining the team in the next year will really have an awakening in terms of conditioning. The endurance training has really been on display this season.

yes, I am not sure that most realize how hard it is to get in that shape. Constantly throughout the season you could see how well conditioned CU was, other teams were subbing and their players still hand their hands on the knees constantly.

The leap from high school is already challenging but to play at the pace the Jays do, will be hard for them to pick up. That is what stinks about possibly losing the big 3, they were all used to it.

Figured this one was coming too, but Jonathan Lawson is in the portal. He only scored 11 pts for the season, so not that big of a loss. Expected him to play more since he was a 4* recruit out of high school, but clearly coaching staff didn't see what they wanted from him.

I think there is a decent chance Kalk comes back..and I have a feeling if he does, the domino would fall and Trey comes back for his last season as well. I can’t imagine the memory Trey will have of his last game played in a Jays uniform was his miserable performance against Tennessee in the Sweet 16..I just don’t think that performance would sit well with him..and also, I don’t think he’s NBA ready as of yet..

Ashworth coming back would be a BIG plus as well. If these pieces do return, Coach Mac’s job gets MUCH easier building the talented role players needed to compliment the experience of those 3..

We’ll see…

All that you mentioned would be a dream scenario. Unfortunately, Baylor can't come back, but having those other 3 would be great. I do expect a little more from Ashworth next year since he now knows the system and pace better. Trey is still the least likely to come back, but you never know.

Josiah Dotzler has entered the transfer portal. I knew it was possible, but I didn’t think he would. It’s just weird to lose a local guy.

Although just because they entered, the portal doesn’t 100% mean they are leaving, but usually that is the case

Big East takes both the NCAA tourney and the NIT. Seton Hall got screwed out of March Madness.

Big East success should be good for Creighton.

Its crazy how well the Big East has done in the postseason in recent years. They have won 4 of the last 8 years that it has been played.

Seems as if UCONN has stepped into the role of flagship program for the Big East once Jay Wright stepped down at Villanova.

funny thing about that is for the most part the Jays own them....I believe the Jays are 5-2 or something like that vs Uconn.

Our way-too-early men's basketball Top 25 for 2024-25 season starts with Duke, Alabama
7. Creighton (25-10)
Baylor Scheierman is gone after a wonderful two-year run with the program. Creighton could bring back a pair of fifth-year seniors in Ryan Kalkbrenner and Steven Ashworth, with Ashworth almost certain to come back and Kalkbrenner still weighing his options. If Kalkbrenner does come back, the Bluejays can build around one of the top big men in the country. Greg McDermott also has a top-20 recruiting class on the way. And if guard Trey Alexander can be convinced to come back, Creighton will be a title contender.

Frederick King has entered the portal. Really wanted to see him succeed, but he just never really seemed to progress at all. Every time he stepped on the floor you could count on him picking up at least 1-2 fouls in the next 5 min or less.

Absolutely no inside info for me, but wonder if that means that Kalk is coming back.

I am curious about something, Connecticut Donovan Clingan announced he is going into draft and there are predictions that he could be a top 15-20 pick. Kalk is approximately same size and had better stats and was big east defensive player 3 yrs now but not much chat about him - what do they see him lacking ?

I’d also say Kalk is better overall than Clingan..

Clingan benefitted from playing on the best team in college basketball the last 2 seasons.. Which, of course, our Jays defeated twice :) ..

That said, my fingers remain crossed for Kalk to return for his last season of eligibility…

Trey Zeigler Named Men's Basketball Assistant Coach

Trey Zeigler is returning to The Hilltop as an assistant coach with the Creighton men's basketball program, head coach Greg McDermott announced on Monday, April 22nd.

Zeigler (ZIG-ler) spent the 2022-23 season as a graduate manager with the Bluejays, during which time Creighton won 24 games and reached the Elite Eight. He played in integral part of player development of All-BIG EAST players Ryan Kalkbrenner, Baylor Scheierman and Trey Alexander. CU spent nine weeks in the AP poll, climbing as high as No. 7. While at Creighton he earned his master's degree in Organizational Leadership.

Well, Frankie Fidler is headed to Mich St. Thought that CU or Nebraska were the place where he would end up, especially after Chucky decommitted from Wisconsin.

He is a good player, but the level of competition is going to be drastically different for him.

Creighton has finally gotten a transfer. 6'6" guard Jamiya Neal from ASU. He avg 11 pts and 5.4 reb per game last year. Not a great 3pt shooter though, only 26.9% for 3 seasons. He apparently was a great defender and can dunk pretty easily.

He has one season of eligibility left.
