community and will be going to a strict membership-only model.
76 room members only hotel. Interesting. They should just build it outside the fence and allow the public to stay. Offer a discount for people with a Skinny Bones ticket stub.
OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Plans to revitalize the North Omaha Airport are taking off. The idea is to turn the airport into a “club-like” destination spot for leisure pilots. The North Omaha Airport was built in the 1940′s. It had its heyday in the 70′s and 80′s. In the 90′s, the airport housed mainly police helicopters. Ackerman bought the property in November 2021 when the helicopter operation moved to Blair. Plans include tearing down the existing hangars and putting up an aviator’s hotel, including a 13,000-square-foot clubhouse.
If all goes as planned, the project will land around the end of 2024 or beginning of 2025. A neighborhood meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, January 18th at 6:30 p.m. at the North Omaha Airport operations building. In February, plans will go back to the city planning board. If approved, they’ll go on to city council.
The "entertainment" portion of the operation has been removed from the development proposal
(i.e., hotel, restaurant, etc. are no longer included in the development plans).
The planned facility upgrades now include: New box hangars across 5 buildings to the south
and east of the runway, new T-Hangar Building to the north and west, an Airport Operations
Building addition, extension of the runway by 400 feet to the north, and airport perimeter fencing
with security gates and remote video security.

In a 5-to-1 vote on Wednesday, the city planning board approved expansion plans at the North Omaha Airport. However, there’s a safety issue that needs to be addressed first. “There’s some properties around the airport that have some tree violations and some structures that were built into the lateral of the airspace,” said North Omaha Airport owner Patrick Ackerman said. The trees he’s talking about violate FAA rules because they’re too tall and too close to the airport.
A plan to jumpstart the North Omaha Airport is finally jumping through the hoops at city hall, as hangar space is hard to come by here in the metro area. The owner has been trying to upgrade and expand old facilities for more than a year, and leisure pilots say they need more space to park their planes. "These are the airports a lot of people learn how to fly at," said Pat Ackerman, the owner of the North Omaha Airport. Ackerman has 10 years of experience with Marriott International. Hospitality he's now trying to get off the ground for the North Omaha Airport, with leisure pilots demanding hangar space to house their small aircraft.
