Agreed.

The mayors lack of leadership and apparent interest in getting them to build downtown was a big indicator to businesses about how little the city cares about them and having employers in what should be the core of our city.
Who said I was angry? Can I not disagree without getting angry?NEDodger wrote: ↑Tue Aug 03, 2021 6:43 pmjjjjhskr wrote: ↑Tue Aug 03, 2021 2:15 pm ok, last comment - I think that the loss of HDR from downtown was devastating to offices being built and filled. Lol, wut?? The mayor had a very public fight with HDR and Omaha Performing Arts about this exact thing. What is she supposed to do - enact a law that forces OPA to sell HDR the parking lot that was fought over?
If you want to be angry about this, be angry at OPA and John Gottschalk for screwing that up.
At the end of the day HDR is gonna do what they want to do, period.jjjjhskr wrote: ↑Tue Aug 03, 2021 7:57 pmWho said I was angry? Anyway, I do think the mayor had an opportunity to make OPA and HDR happy and did not take full advantage of the opportunity.

Maybe free or reduced rent for all those empty store fronts for a period of time? I’ve never understood why the landlords Aren’t doing more to get renters at street level.
The proposal came out 2 years ago. Do we know what was happening during the last 2 years? Does it take that long to negotiate with the city before the final proposal goes to the planning board?iamjacobm wrote: ↑Thu Dec 21, 2023 11:45 pm TIF in front of the planning board in January. I also noticed the Manhattan's Deli is building out space just to the east in the parking garage across from city hall. Glad they found a new home. Not going to end up on any best of lists, but I went there every so often when I worked downtown for a quick lunch.
I'd assume it's the LIHTC funding that caused it. That can be a pretty lengthy process. Also just speculating, but they may have had to wait out some office leases before starting work in earnest.daveoma wrote: ↑Sun Dec 24, 2023 4:05 pmThe proposal came out 2 years ago. Where exactly is this place located? It's not exactly jumping out at me on Google Maps street view.iamjacobm wrote: ↑Thu Dec 21, 2023 11:45 pm I also noticed the Manhattan's Deli is building out space just to the east in the parking garage across from city hall. NW corner of 18th and Farnam. I don't know what this space was used for before, but I don't recall it ever being opened up to the street like it is now.ChadJK wrote: ↑Tue May 28, 2024 8:18 pmWhere exactly is this place located?
