The old Burger IM spot has reopened as Action Burger. I stopped and got a single burger to test the waters, and as pretty pleased. Nothing fancy, but definitely a solid quick burger. I'm glad to have a burger joint back in the area. Everything else in the area is $15 and a half hour for a generic Sysco patty.

That was exactly my thought with franks pizza: nice to have a reasonably priced and decent tasting place to eat here before or after events. Let It Fly looks nice but is $15 for basic burger and fries.

Yeah can't see both of them making it long term. Granted one is miniature golf and this one is more golf sim I believe.

Not a lot of people realize that right next to top golf at westroads is a sim golf place called x-golf. Both have been doing well, from what I can tell. They provide two very different experiences, just as these two will in the Capitol District.

I think there is more constant traffic out near the Westroads though. During event days there is a lot downtown, but otherwise the Capitol District can be a ghost town. I have been there several times recently in the evening with no event and there is hardly anyone there.

I agree. I don't think the Capital District does enough promoting of itself. They don't seem to do enough for their center court area with the big screen.

that's not really putt-putt though, just a simulator.

Edit: I checked out the pricing...wow.

Annual membership: $399, still have to pay for your hour of golf (it seems), but it's discounted. Club rental $20. When I selected the non-member pricing for an hour, the total was $110. It also looks like they have locations in Indiana.

Cool concept, but I can't see this making it at that price point.

Hilton Omaha has dumpsters out front and has started construction on a new supper club restaurant with plans to redo the patio space on 10th street with fire pits. The restaurant has been closed before covid.

Marriott has taken over the former cupcake place and virtual reality and has turned it into event space. They will also be taking over the former Jewell jazz club and will reopen as a new club of some type.

While I used to praise skywalks for the perceived benefits of pedestrian safety and shielding of the elements.

Over the years, many cities have taken down and even stopped implementing of skywalks. Not only that, skywalks seperate and isolate pedestrian traffic from street level and makes downtowns much less vibrant.

Cincinnati used to have a skywalk system, Minneapolis is critisized for being too quiet and Des Moines is now shutting down skywalks early and complaints of leaky, smelly and homeless are reported by the Register.

Thank goodness Omaha was prevented in implementing skywalks due to the hilly nature and not waste money on skywalks that would only be removed.

Omaha downtown should continue to make the pedestrian experience at street level a better experience.

I used to frequent Insomnia Cookies at Power and Light when I lived in KC. Their ooey gooey cookies served warm are soo soo good. This is a great get for Omaha!

Anyone know what's going on with Frank's Pizzeria? They closed for the blizzards in January and seemingly never reopened. Their website is down, they are no longer on any delivery apps and their phone number is just a message saying they are closed and to monitor social media (their last Facebook posts were for the blizzard closure).

They don't have anything posted in the window of the shop saying why they are closed. Would hate to lose this place since downtown really lacks for pizza options.

I was thinking of going there tonight, but prob not now. I thought they were just temporarily closed. They seemed to be pretty busy the few times I have been there. Quite a few basketball fans would go there before and after the Jays games and with the free arcade games, my kids loved it.

Yeah all of their locations closed but were supposedly reopening with no owners. The Capital District one was popular. I really do hope they reopen.

They are closing, but keeping the space for office space so they can fulfill their lease. But the retail store is definitely closing.
