Chili Dawg's Food of Fire (Gretna)

Post by nebugeater »

There are signs in the window at 11844 Standing Stone Dr. #400 Gretna saying it is coming soon.

I don't know much about this, but per their website, they are in Blair and started in 2005

I have no idea if this is a second location or if they are relocating.
Does anyone know anything about this company?

Our Story
Two brothers, Tim and Shawn, both of whom have a passion for great food with heat, started Chili Dawg's Food of Fire in 2005. Their very popular Habanero pepper spreads are referred to as "Sweet Before the Heat."

The brothers have created fantastic pepper spreads, twelve in all, and they also have a line of Chili pepper spices/rubs. Innovation is the key to great products and the company continues to grow because of that focus. Their slogan "We Put the Eat in Heat" explains this focus. Great tasting food and condiments with just the right amount of heat is always their goal. This website also contains other quality food products the brothers consider worthy of your consideration

This location was Bell Pool & Patio. They cleared out right at the end of the year.

That they are. A little spendy for jelly, but I really like their Peachbanero.

I have been hearing their ads on radio for years. I think 1620 and 590. Always found their name odd. When I first heard their spots I assumed they were a restaurant, specializing in coney dogs and such.

Yea, I think they were trying to use that early-90s slang. In which case, Chili Dawgs really means Chili Pepper Guys. Unfortunately, it sounds like Chili Dogs, so that's going to be everyone's assumption. Definitely a poor choice. I wonder how many people will wander in expecting a hot dog restaurant and then leave.

I'm now having flashbacks to a time when everyone was their first initial plus "dawg." Peace out, C-Dawg.

Well, that has changed. I followed their FB page when this was announced, and today, they posted that the Blair store will be closing on April 20 and that they will be opening at their new Gretna location soon.

Talk about a risky move. For the metro area you can't make much of a farther move. Going that far from their long time business home, wow.

Kind of a surprise to me. Wonder what % of their business is a grocery store. Mail order, farmers market? If that is a big % then maybe the resk is smaller.

having not been in the current location, I do not know the condition or size of the current location, so I can't compare that either.

Perhaps the location doubles as their production facility. Similar to Volcanic Peppers in Bellevue. Retail in the front and production/fulfillment in the back.

That is possible. It is a large bay for what they are doing. If it is not manufacturing, I would assume some shipping and limited warehousing.

Do you have any idea if they were doing their manufacturing on Blair or if they have grown to the point where they do some custom manufacturing with a third party?

Grand Opening is June 1st.

I keep meaning to stop by and check it out, but their hours don't jive much with my schedule.

I was in there one afternoon before they closed when I got back to Gretna. It was before I smoked the Pork that I mentioned in another thread. I was interested in trying a new seasoning on a couple of the Butts rather than my tried and true method.

I looked around and saw that they had a lot of items on the shelf. I like the layout and the ease of looking at things. I ended up talking to a guy that I assume was one of the owners. He was very knowledgeable and good to talk to. For their dry rub spices, they have most, if not all, behind the counter to taste. I went with one he recommended, tasted it as just the spice, and liked it. It was a home run for the Pork Butt, and I may have found a new go-to.

I think they will do well at this location.

I decided to stop by. Very decent turnout. Sometimes these “grand opening” events can be a little cringe., but this one was well attended and had a great energy.
