Wow! I haven’t been to any of them in probably 15 years. That discrepancy is insane.

Dusty wrote: Fri Feb 09, 2024 8:19 am With all this talk about the Bellevue waterpark, it makes you wonder if this will affect Fun Plex. For me, Fun Plex is way too small and expensive. I would rather drive to Des Moines (Adventureland) or KC (Oceans of Fun).

In a perfect world, they would talk Builders Supply in selling the large lot just East of them. It would allow them to double in size.
I would imagine the Builders Supply land likely has a fair amount of pollution and might be difficult to immediately turn around into being ready for use as a theme park. Just my guess, but after probably 50 years of use for almost sawmill level purposes, there could be a pretty heavy amount of pollution on that land from chemical spills, gasoline/oil spills from machinery and forklifts, etc. They would probably have to do an environmental study to see what kind of remediation might need to be done and that could be difficult when you are talking about digging to use this for things like swimming pools. I could see it being deemed a health hazard.

It's tough because the plot to the east is also heavy industrial. The builders supply land is probably even less polluted than the land to the East. But, all of this even assumes Builders supply would even want to sell to Fun Plex and Fun Plex would even want to buy. I've always assumed Fun Plex is more than happy being able to gouge people in their little niche as a local monopoly. They've only recently started adding attractions in the last 5-7 years after being stagnant for decades mostly.

I doubt there's much in the way of pollution that'd prevent them from developing it, if that were the case. It isn't like Asarco when they had to do all that remediation because of contamination. Sure, there my have been some oil that got spilled or whatever, but that'd be superficial compared to sites that are actually contaminated.

FunPlex did add that small coaster about 10-15 years ago, but since took it out.

I never once been to Fun Plex. It never looked appealing to me. Just your typical carnival rides and a lame go kart track. Even when they had the coaster, never felt compelled because even it was kinda a kiddie ride.

To be fair they (the Fun Plex owners) must be doing something right - at least right enough to keep the gates open.

I truly believe if Peony Park could have found a buyer or way to keep afloat that they could have beat out Fun Plex in the long run. This is assuming we could only support one of the two establishments. Although it was small I always felt like Peony Park kind of had a county fair vibe but with permanent attractions (rides less likely to fall over 🤣). I grew up with the impression Peony was Omaha's World's of Fun... and never understood why it couldn't survive.

Maybe as a kid things seemed much larger than they were but with their fake beach pool, water slides, indoor music venue along with their outdoor "garden" they brought in a lot of visitors. I still remember Smashing Pumpkins playing there.

Anyway those of you that have been here for decades know what I'm talking about - yes, a lot of their rides were small compared to what parks have today and maybe their real estate wouldn't have been able to support larger attractions, but again if Fun Plex has been able to stick it out then I don't understand why Peony Park couldn't.

In a hypothetical example if Peony Park was still open and even charged $50-$60 for a full day pass (or perhaps a weekend) I would have spent that in a heartbeat over $40 for Fun Plex.

Someone on here has to have about $100 million chilling in some crypto account just waiting to be spent... open that electronic wallet and build a damn amusement park!

It’s a shame Peony park couldn’t be saved or moved . I moved to Omaha in the mid 80’s and I believe it closed not long after that . I never even went there, drove by it a few times. It was replaced by a Hy-Vee of all things. A definite loss for Omaha. Then Aksarben bit the dust a few years later.

I would assume its more of a re-pave or re-configuration. The go karts have always been part of the park and the company that owns the land even has it in their name "KARTS INC". I also wondered, without the rollercoaster is it possible they are going to re-configure the track a little?

I will say the owners of fun plex have been committed to improvements. For many years, it felt like nothing changed much and the last 7 years have seen 4 new water slides, a kiddie water playground, and some reconfigurations of the ride side. The ride side still feels like a tacked on afterthought. In some ways, I think they'd be better off just committing to being a water park, but the go karts and rides do get utilized. I'm guessing they are just re-doing the go karts.

They've definitely improved it. Unfortunately they are kind of land locked in their location.

I really wish Omaha had a true amusement park. I never took my boys (now in college) to Fun Plex. Just always spent the extra time and money to go to Des Moines for Adventureland, but mostly KC for Worlds of Fun.

The go-karts have always been my favorite part of Fun Plex. I particularly enjoyed the "slick" track, as long as it had just the right amount of slickness to it (not too grippy and not too loose).

Bring back the Kart Ranch. I lived here as a kid (144th st)

Agree, Joes is great, but young kids can't handle those carts.

The construction sure looks like a parking lot. Still no permits for construction.

But there is a permit to remove a 1000 gallon gas tank:

I'd assume the tank is for the go karts, as I believe they still run gas. It would be a shame if they permanently removed that attraction, especially just to add more parking.

Wish someone with $$$ would open a park here... I'm glad Fun Plex can survive, and perhaps they're making a killing... but for what they charge, you can get into "REAL" theme parks that are only a few hours away from here. It's also my feeling about Vala's. I get they're trying to expand and add attractions, but $50 for a pumpkin patch at peak season is crazy high. They have 4-5 rides, and the roller coaster really doesn't count, IMO. Although I will say at least Vala's has the whole "fall/Halloween vibe" going. Fun Plex is just Fun Plex.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Vala's should just go all in on being a theme park at this point. Even if Funplex wanted to invest a lot into new things they're pretty locked in for space.

If that is actually going to become a parking lot, I'd surmise they would be transitioning more to a water park over time. Because they could probably free up more land in back that's currently used for parking for water park attractions. would make sense. rides are a pure afterthought there now.

It will be interesting to see if they lose some customer base. They'd generally done a $109 deal for season passes on Black Friday. This year, they announced it will be $159 and gave the rationale on Facebook that they sell too many season passes at reduced rates and the park gets "clogged up" with season pass holders and they don't sell enough day passes. So, they basically said they do not want to sell as many season passes and that's why they upped the price. They are offering a lower priced Mon-Thursday only season pass closer to prior prices, but including weekends is $50 more than prior years.

Needless to say, this didn't go over well on social media. Numerous comments ranged from it being a bad look to punish their most loyal customers and that these people that buy season passes are often spending $100 or more a weekend on bar tabs at the adult pool.

Fun Plex response to this was to disable all commenting on their Facebook page and hide/delete all comments on that post.

It will be interesting to see how this works out for them....especially in light of the Bellevue water park opening in a couple of years. It seems odd to try to push away regular business as they move towards more competition in the market.

No clue how everything is going to go in Bellevue, but if it does end up getting built as proposed, Fun Plex is going to be hurting. Bellevue Bay is able to be open year-round, sure the daily admission is going to be a lot but compared to what Fun Plex is offering for the prices, I just don't see why people would bother for Fun-Plex.

If anyone has ever been to Wild Water West in Sioux Falls, that is what Fun-Plex should be for pricing.

Currently;
Fun Plex: $42.99
Wild Water West: $20.81

They have as many attractions as Fun Plex too.

$42.99 for a waterpark is insane. They are charging as much ore more than Worlds/Oceans of Fun as you can go online right now and buy an any day pass for Worlds/Oceans for $40. The Sioux Falls comparison is on point as well.

I just don't see how they can decide now is a great time to up the cost of their season passes and do away with the black Friday deals while basically blaming the season pass holders for them not selling enough day passes. Maybe they should look at themselves and realize a good part of the reason why they aren't selling that many day passes and people buy the season pass is that the day passes are a total rip off while their former season pass price was about right for what you're getting.

They are taking the wrong message away from their sales here. And, they'll be begging people to come back when Bellevue opens and probably undercuts them on both day passes and season passes, but the damage may already be done.

And, rather than address the backlash, and instead just disabling and deleting comments is absolute cowardice from their management. Such a scum move.

I've said this before - they CAN charge what they do because they've been the only player in town, if you want to call them that. Although Adventureland and WofF are about the same price, they (FP) knows a lot of families don't want to drive 4-6 hours roundtrip to go to Des Moines or KC.

All we need is a REAL amusement park in the area and they'd have to adjust their rates. I can't think of a single person that's ever told me they go to Fun Plex for the roller coaster or one of their other rides... they're not an amusement park and pretty soon, Vala's will have just as many rides (not counting water attractions). I don't mind the business, but their prices are ridiculous for what it is. I'd rather take my kids to the new Gretna YMCA water park than go to Fun Plex.

I'm grateful my kids would rather go to Worlds of Fun over Fun Plex because I don't mind the drive for the much better experience.

Amusement parks are a tough business - so many are shuttering. My guess is the status quo is going to be maintain, so Adventureland and Worlds of Fun will be the options.

Fun Plex is hinting at the reveal of their new attraction on their social media. they are saying it's big. It is the exact spot formerly occupied by the roller coaster. I'd have to imagine it's something similar. They did say Go Karts are not going away, just needed retooling to create some space.

People were surprisingly mad about the idea of no Go Karts basically saying they demand their season pass refunded if there are no Go Karts. I didn't think they were utilized that heavily. Always a line, but never that long.

can we remove the quotes around "amusement park"? Is it on the same level as adventureland or world's of fun? No, but it's also an actual amusement park, no matter how bad it may seem to some of you. At least it's a local business providing the only product of its kind. If they weren't land locked, they would have more options for growth, but here we are.

I also moved it from News & Events to Dining/Culture/Entertainment since it fits more under entertainment.

The rollercoaster has arrived and assumably is under way. I'm guessing it will go vertical any day now. Its basically in the same spot as the last coaster.

I only go about once a decade and I just went a few years ago so I have to wait until 2034. Maybe they'll have an even bigger coaster by then. lol

Didn't you get the BYGO "go once a decade, get in free in the same decade" offer I got?
