I have always felt it is a psychological thing for us. We always want to feel like we "have arrived" or are on par with big cities in having what they have. We don't have pro sports teams, so we treat our college teams like professional teams. When a new chain restaurant from Chicago or LA opens up here, we get googly eyed because we finally have what the big boys have had. Why we get excited about Chik Fil-A; chicken sandwiches from a far flung exotic place like Atlanta! Why we are clamoring for Whataburger. Something new from Texas! Why we get excited about Giordanos when there are Chicago pizza joints every bit as good already here. We just like to feel like we've upped our stature with these name brands from bigger cities.

I agree with what you’re saying..To a point. For example, I’m 100% in agreement with you as it relates to the hype when Cheesecake Factory opened up in Omaha back in 2006. That felt like Omaha “upped their stature” a bit..

A fast food place like Whataburger (for example)? Naw. Speaking for myself, due to my large family connection to Texas, I’ve eaten there many times and I just really like their burgers. I don’t think adding Whataburger to Omaha’s fast food offerings ups our status in any way..at least to me. I just want to have my Whataburger fix without having to visit family in Texas to achieve it, lol..and I suspect many in the crowd had a similar sentiment towards Chick Fil A before they entered the market..Same with current out of market places like Waffle House, In ‘n Out etc…

I know I'm late for the party sorry just came across this burger depot was on 138th across from bk and us bank also they had a location in South omaha in front of hyvee millard location has been torn down and is now a roofing company and south omaha was a cricket wireless for a while and now is a taco place

Dang, that's moving right along. I shot a little video of that building earlier this month for the April Grow Omaha Construction video which should come out very soon and there was only a few pieces of steel up in the air.

I was just thinking that what Omaha needed was someplace to grab a burger. Have you tried to order a burger lately? Nobody has them. I've been to nearly every restaurant and bar in town with no luck. So, I'm super happy there's finally a burger option. I wander if they'll also serve French fries? They can be hard to find as well.

I noticed driving to work this morning the sign is up at 120th & L St finally for this - I still can't believe they tore down the Famous Dave's building that couldn't have been that old to redevelop this plot.

I still think the Burger Detour building design looks like a mess. It doesn't make sense and IMO is confusing to the general consumer (it does not look like a food service destination).

Is it like a Five Guys? Freddy's? BK? Runza? I mean there are only so many variants of a burger. They must be awfully confident in themselves with the explosion of stores in the area.

Funny thing is they have to cost a couple million a piece to build (or more) - and I've never even heard of them until this. I'd rather see something like Whattaburger or In N Out... From appearance alone I'm afraid these Detour places won't last. They look like a rental car return center.

I don't think anyone has ever eaten at one because unless something has slipped past me, there are none open yet.

Have not even seen a menu for one yet to see their offerings or pricing.

I think there are three under construction, 180th & Maple (general), the one you saw along Hyw 6/31 by the grocery store, and one on the former Famous Daves lot near L St Marketplace.

I'm sure it's been mentioned elsewhere, but I thought I'd put it in the Burger Detour thread. The Burger Detour in Elkhorn near 183rd & Maple has opened.

The menu looks really simple. Almost as if they're trying to be like In & Out (but with a chicken sandwich and chicken bites also).

I went to the West Maple location last week during lunch hour. They were steady but not what I would call busy. I ordered Detour Style but didn’t receive it. Burgers were dry and almost flavorless.

If I was driving through a rural area, was starving and the only option was this place, I would be okay with it. But if there were other options (which there certainly are in Omaha), I would go elsewhere. If my experience with them is what they truly intend to offer, they’re going to go the way of Taco Bueno.

I went to Burger Detour on Friday. It was a good fast food burger. I don't like salt and was pleasantly surprised it wasn't a salt bomb. I could see how others might think its "bland", but for those of us that don't like salt, it did have good flavor.

The Burger Detour near Hwy 6 and Pacific Street has to be one of the slowest builds for this type of project in a long time. They started this so long ago that I cannot even remember exactly when,

This Burger Detour now has a video sign saying Grand Opening on Monday, August 5. Pretty sure it was newly added today. There were people working inside. I drove by headed N mid-morning. About 3 Hr later, I came back, and it was on the sign. Pretty sure as bold as it was, I would have noticed it the first time driving by.
